NHL 2011-2012 season

New year, new thread. Go.

10,000 Volt Ghost Jul 24th, 2011 02:07 PM

Thread lockout.

Edit: whoops. Thought it said nfl.

We have to worry about the salary cap now. First time in franchise history.

A-Rod picks the Bruins to repeat and gives it 6:5.

10,000 Volt Ghost Aug 6th, 2011 09:19 AM

Anyone else watch cbc games just to watch Don Cherry and Maxwell Smart? Love them.

About restructuring the conferences. They might be going back to 4 instead of 6.

This is my favorite Cherry suit:

Zhukov Aug 17th, 2011 08:36 AM

So I went ice skating for the first time in my life the other day, and I did alright. Only had shitty rental skates, and they killed my shins and ankles. I think I would have been much better if my feet weren't hurting so much.

Any tips? I would like to do it again, and I want to play a game of ice hockey one day :(

oh wow :(

That's horrible.

Kitsa Sep 11th, 2011 11:43 PM

Bad year to be an NHL player :( I think this summer has had the highest deathrate ever.

AChimp Sep 19th, 2011 06:40 PM

Guess who has season tickets and will be at the first Jets pre-season game in 15 years tomorrow? :O

Pentegarn Sep 19th, 2011 07:24 PM

AChimp Sep 19th, 2011 08:09 PM

Also gonna be at Game One of the regular season on Oct 9.

Don Cherry and the Prime Minister are showing up :O

You'll be a witness ..... to history!

AChimp Sep 21st, 2011 06:21 PM

The first pre-season game was pretty awesome. Completely packed arena going nuts for three hours is really really awesome; I can't wait for the regular season to start up. The stuff they show on TV doesn't relate at all how loud it was in there.

Byfuglien started a fight 37 seconds into the first period :)

Winning 6-1 was also pretty sweet, but I guess that's to be expected when you play Columbus' replacements. :(

AChimp Oct 6th, 2011 11:00 PM

Got my season tickets. :) They came in a crazy huge blue box.

No clue what other teams do for their season tickets.

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 6th, 2011 11:28 PM

Sabres players hands delivered the season tickets this year but thats just crazy as hell. The season ticket box is cool as shit.

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 7th, 2011 01:55 PM

First game of the season Sabres vs Ducks in Finland.

FINLAND

Pentegarn Oct 7th, 2011 04:09 PM

Why aren't you in Finland watching it?

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 8th, 2011 09:15 AM

cuz im' busy in america being american

Pentegarn Oct 8th, 2011 10:09 PM

Fuck yeah!

AChimp Oct 9th, 2011 10:08 AM

Less than 8 hours until the first real NHL game in Winnipeg in 15 years. :eek

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 9th, 2011 12:51 PM

Did they have a huge coming home party too?

AChimp Oct 9th, 2011 11:16 PM

They had the NHL Faceoff party in Winnipeg this year (surprise) to kick off the whole NHL season. There was all kinds of stuff going on around the city today. They had giant TVs set up near our downtown to watch the game for people who couldn't get tickets.

Too bad we lost 5-1 :(

Bunch of bullshit interference calls if you ask me ;)

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 9th, 2011 11:27 PM

Ouch. Gotta build up from somewhere though.

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 12th, 2011 10:17 PM

AChimp Oct 13th, 2011 11:31 PM

Jets were competitive at least against Chicago, but we totally got out-coached after giving up our 2-0 lead. Too many awful turnovers.

Also, two points:
- the rule about "when I meant to blow the whistle" vs "when you actually did" is bullshit and contrary to all other professional sports

- bush league arena staff in Chicago by blowing the horn with 1.5 seconds left, then the refs calling the game. I know it wouldn't have changed much, but come on, get the camera crews off the ice and drop the puck one more time.

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 14th, 2011 09:11 AM

Its still the same roster as the thrashers as of right now though right?

AChimp Oct 14th, 2011 06:18 PM

Mostly, yeah.

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 14th, 2011 07:15 PM

I don't look forward to playing the jets then. They usually beat on us for some reason.

AChimp Oct 14th, 2011 08:01 PM

We're having a party tomorrow to watch the Jets vs Jets game tomorrow in Phoenix. Not many cities to play themselves.

The game in Phoenix sold out mostly because of Winnipeg fans who couldn't get tickets to home games buying plane tickets to Arizona instead.

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 14th, 2011 09:08 PM

I think you play the Flyers only once this year. So not bloody likely. :(

My bad, I should have realized Winnipeg is in the Eastern Conference. Southeast division.

I had totally eliminated from my memory the (Thr)ashe(r)s from whence the Jets arose (like a phoenix?).

Colonel Flagg Oct 20th, 2011 01:46 PM

Probably not :( but I will catch it on CN8. It's a great game to pick, too; a Flyers/Rangers game pits two teams with a long history of hating each other, in a venue where there is enough room for fans of both teams to cheer, jeer and heckle.

Expect to see the most interesting fights in the stands. :eek

AChimp Oct 20th, 2011 10:22 PM

We turn the puck over way too much. :(

And we also let the other team score too much. :(

I didn't know that could happen, but I'm happy it did.

AChimp Oct 26th, 2011 08:13 AM

I have to hate Columbus because they're in our division. >:

We have a 7 game road trip. I am confident we will win at least two games.

Colonel Flagg Oct 26th, 2011 01:14 PM

I see you beating the Devils, Islanders and Rangers. :)

AChimp Oct 26th, 2011 09:35 PM

Philly's up tomorrow! During the playoffs Hartnell looked like a homeless guy with his beard, so we might be able to distract him by waving a sandwich around. :P

Kitsa Oct 27th, 2011 09:27 AM

We play Buffalo tonight. :(

IT'S ON, TEN THOUSAND VOLT HOCKEY FAN.

Colonel Flagg Oct 27th, 2011 01:44 PM

Colonel Flagg Oct 27th, 2011 01:45 PM

Kitsa Oct 27th, 2011 02:50 PM

I hate facial hair and long hair on sports players in general. I wish they followed gladiator protocol.

Also, still waiting for someone to get choked by the big stupid gold chain around their necks.

AChimp Oct 27th, 2011 09:49 PM

Kitsa Oct 28th, 2011 09:38 PM

I don't know what it is about the Blue Jackets that just chews up great goalies and spits them out as damn near useless. Pascal Leclaire went from all of these great saves and nearly impossible leaping glove catches to being so delicate and vulnerable he manages to get injured sitting on the bench. Mason came in as a big prodigy, but I mean look at last night, "folds like a lawnchair", as someone else put it.

I am not liking the new coaching structure and if something doesn't change I don't think people would give much of a hoot if they moved, at this point.

Colonel Flagg Oct 28th, 2011 10:54 PM

How do the Flyers come back from a FIVE GOAL DEFICIT only to lose the f***ing game?

:explode

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 29th, 2011 09:42 AM

That's annoying. Was the Philly game in OT at least?

AChimp Oct 29th, 2011 09:53 AM

The Jets are just that good. :posh

We didn't want it to be easy so we gave up that lead and let you go ahead by a goal.

Colonel Flagg Oct 29th, 2011 07:56 PM

See you in Winnipeg. Revenge is a dish best served cold.

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 30th, 2011 12:56 AM

Motherfucking florida panthers. How the fuck are we up 2-1 with five minutes in the 3rd and lose 3-2. >:

Kitsa Oct 30th, 2011 01:14 PM

Apparently Detroit was a fluke because we've gotten our asses handed to us ever since.

Oh well, that much more embarrassing for Detroit because fuck Detroit.

Pentegarn Oct 31st, 2011 06:23 AM

So last night I went to Nationwide Arena to watch a fight and this hockey game broke out

Kitsa Oct 31st, 2011 01:08 PM

You saw them play the Mighty Duck Fucks?

AChimp Oct 31st, 2011 10:46 PM

Tiny crowd to see the Jets game in Florida tonight. I heard they were letting people in for free if they wore a costume, and they had $260 front row seats available at the door for $50.

Pentegarn Nov 1st, 2011 05:50 AM

I did see them play, though I can't say the same about the Ducks. Some guys showed up in Ducks uniforms. Though what they were doing could hardly be called playing since it was just the Jackets skating all over them.

But by the time the first period was over I had already seen 3 fights, another 2 fights broke out before the game finally ended. It was the most penalty filled game I have ever seen live or on TV

Kitsa Nov 1st, 2011 09:50 AM

who, Boll? I didn't look to see who was playing.

Pentegarn Nov 1st, 2011 05:32 PM

I remember almost nothing of names, though there were repeat offenders, I remember that much

Kitsa Nov 1st, 2011 10:24 PM

It's often Boll. I won't say usually because he's mellowed, but he used to be quite the shitstarter.

Derek Dorsett was involved in two of the fights.

Kitsa Nov 6th, 2011 09:12 PM

Mr. Kitsa said that he read an article today that, with only 2 wins so far, the Blue Jackets are now the worst team in the NHL. I haven't seen the article yet.

Makes me all the happier that one of the wins was against Detroit. Fuck Detroit.

Colonel Flagg Nov 6th, 2011 10:08 PM

Could it be this?

It paints a sordid portrait of a floundering franchise. Not to say that's true, but it's how Scott Burnside seems to feel.

Kitsa Nov 8th, 2011 12:47 AM

That looks about right.

I don't know what happened to them recently. The 07-08 and 08-09 seasons were, I think, the best they ever played, and after the brief shining moment in the playoffs it all went to shit. They lean too heavily on Nash, I know that. Mason is a disaster. He got cocky early, threw embarrassing hissies, and fizzled out fast. As the article says, no Garon to step in for him anymore.

The Blue Jackets were never really wildly popular (you'd never see people wearing Blue Jackets jerseys for the cachet, like you'd see people wearing Blackhawks or Red Wings jerseys), but they always had that little group of fans who were really hardcore, for whom the Jackets could just do no wrong. I used to look at the giant Blue Jackets store at the Tuttle Crossing mall and think, "Really?", but it was the hardcores that kept stuff like that going when no one else cared.

Now I'm seeing even the hardcores responding to their facebook updates, going "BLUE JACKETS SUCK" and "FIRE ARNIEL" and "WHO CARES IF THEY MOVE THE TEAM". When the hardcores are turning on them and telling them they don't give a shit anymore, it's really getting ugly.

To tell you the truth, I haven't sat down to watch an entire game yet so far this season. I've flipped past once or twice, said meh, continued about my business.

idk how to fix the many, many things wrong with that team, though.

10,000 Volt Ghost Nov 8th, 2011 09:43 AM

ACHIMP ITS GO TIME TONIGHT

10,000 Volt Ghost Nov 8th, 2011 08:01 PM

This game its fucking nerve wracking

AChimp Nov 8th, 2011 08:50 PM

Yeah :(

Can't believe we blew a 2-0 lead. Again. Too many stupid penalties.

AChimp Nov 8th, 2011 08:50 PM

PS

If Columbus is done with their team, Winnipeg could totally use a second one for a few years at least.

10,000 Volt Ghost Nov 8th, 2011 09:16 PM

No way, you don't get two.

AChimp Nov 8th, 2011 10:34 PM

FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

10,000 Volt Ghost Nov 9th, 2011 02:28 AM

That whole game was ridiculous as shit

Kitsa Nov 9th, 2011 09:10 AM

If I ever get back to the Tuttle Crossing Mall (it's on the other side of Columbus, in Dublin, and harder for me to get to), I'll take a picture of the Blue Jackets store. I understand it's moved to an even bigger, "better" location from the last time I was there. It's enormous, wood floors, racks and racks of ridiculously expensive clothes (I looked for a baby jersey when my daughter was born, and they were like $75), giant-screen TVs playing old games, big display cases of game sticks and pads and pucks and helmets and jerseys. I'm a fan and I was still going, "Really?"

AChimp Nov 14th, 2011 08:27 AM

Watched the Jets - Blue Jackets game (in which we played like shit). Tons of empty seats, and the boards were advertising "6 game packs starting at $99."

Do you get free t-shirts and hot dogs for the kids with that? This is why hockey fails in non-traditional markets. :(

A "6-game pack" would cost like $500 in Winnipeg this season, if they existed.

10,000 Volt Ghost Nov 14th, 2011 02:50 PM

Yeah, those are Coyotes prices.

AChimp Nov 20th, 2011 10:20 AM

Take that, Philly! Again. :O

Colonel Flagg Nov 20th, 2011 02:33 PM

Apparently, they're intimidated by the Jets. How else can you explain coming out of the gate so damned flat? Twice.

Colonel Flagg Dec 3rd, 2011 09:53 PM

So riddle me this: If the Flyers can't get started on track in games with the Jets-North, how come they don't seem to have the same problem with the Jets-South?

Pentegarn Dec 3rd, 2011 10:15 PM

Doesn't matter. THE mustache was sacrificed, the Cup is Philly's now

Colonel Flagg Dec 3rd, 2011 11:02 PM

AChimp Dec 4th, 2011 09:05 PM

Old Jets are old. Phoenix was boo'ed every single time they touched the puck for the entire game last week.

AChimp Dec 7th, 2011 12:29 AM

My ears are still ringing from that Boston game. Way louder than even Game One, especially after we got up 2-1 right off the face-off following the hit on Stuart from behind.
