STAR WARS!

I got my tickets for the May 18th/19th midnight premiere. How 'bout you?

Rongi Apr 20th, 2005 10:36 PM

nah

sports Apr 20th, 2005 10:51 PM

I'll go see it the 2nd or 3rd week, too crowded.

Rob Apr 21st, 2005 12:16 AM

I just downloaded the new song called Battle of the Heroes and it sounds like the trailer music from Harry Potter. :|

Bell E. Laffs Apr 21st, 2005 02:49 AM

Is Chewy going to be in this one, I like him he's so unpredictable like kramer from seinfield.

Dole Apr 21st, 2005 11:27 AM

Its the same day here too, cool. I have tickets - mainly because I have seen every star wars film at the cinema, and I will be forever cursed if I dont follow the pattern. I am sure its going to have the same problems as the last two though, ie massive bits of rubbishness amongst some cool action bits.

I'm with you, I'd rather go see it when I don't have to sit next to a guy who hasn't showered in a week as he camped outside the theatre. :puke

sports Apr 22nd, 2005 04:34 PM

At our theater, nobody has ever camped outside of it :(. I just don't like watching a star wars movie, with a bunch of star wars nerds is all.

timrpgland Apr 22nd, 2005 07:03 PM

I have some higher hopes for this one compared to the first two. There was a reason the first two were the way they were. For the most part I think III will make up for it.

I liked the first two enough though unlike alot of people.

.

thats one of the more logically retarded conclusions some can make, i guess..

pjalne Apr 22nd, 2005 07:33 PM

The whole "Episodes I and II were weak because they were setting up the big story that really matters" argument is horseshit. To begin with, it's not a good excuse. You don't sacrifice two movies so you can gather up enough gunpowder to make the last one count. You make the other ones matter. You figure "By the end of this movie, this is what I want to have told a story about and this is how I will make it worthwhile."

Also, the first one didn't set up jack shit except introducing the main characters to each other and show that Darth Vader once was really good at playing racing games. The rest was two guys walking around in the sand trying to fix their ship and a bunch of frog creatures (never heard from before or since) fighting LEGO robots. I suppose the political basis for the wholse series was explained, but can you honestly say you walked out understanding exactly how the trade federation related to the senate, the republic somethingorother, the Naboo government, the tax guys or the four hundred other groups that are mentioned without being tied in with anything else? That's not exposition, that's confusing and boring your audience.

I don't get all steamed up about the prequels, I actually had a good time watching the second one. But I'm sick of hearing people saying that having two thirds of your story being a disjointed mess is okay because you get to see Vader in his suit for ten minutes at the end of it all. That's just not how a good storyteller works.

timrpgland Apr 22nd, 2005 07:35 PM

I love uppity types who always have nothing to add. (rez)

We all have our opinion when it comes to the Star Wars series as a whole. The trend wasn't suprising if you followed what was supposed to happen. There wasn't much of a chance for the prequels to be as good as IV, V and VI simply because of how the story lays out.

III should be the Empire Strikes Back of I, II and III so to speak.

the_dudefather Apr 22nd, 2005 07:45 PM

to think that half of episode two's plot was result of a hastily named war in episode iv, unless lucas had everything planned from the start (yeah right)

the clone wars series on toomani (or whatever the us equivilent is) is quite cool tho

pjalne Apr 22nd, 2005 07:49 PM

Toonami. And yeah, I watched that show the other day and it was pretty cool.

Zomboid Apr 22nd, 2005 08:19 PM

Yeah, I caught it on tv a few times and it was cool...It was nice seeing the guy who becomes vader not being a whiny little girl too.

ziggytrix Apr 22nd, 2005 11:16 PM

Why's it so hard to believe Lucas had more than just a basic timeline for the events in his "grand epic story"? As a sci-fi writer I can easliy see him coming up with some pretty convoluted histories and backstory in his notes when he is working the story for 4-6.

I think maybe the reason 1 and 2 are so mediocre - they don't have the fully developed feel that 4-6 had since, if you believe Lucas, you were looking at the middle part of a pretty developed story.

Or maybe he's just faking it as he goes - I'll still watch Episode 3, eventually...

Number17 Apr 23rd, 2005 04:15 AM

I don't see any reason to get any early tickets. I'll just wait until its a weekday or something to go see it. It will be worth it to watch it while eating dark side M&M's.

Talk about milking a franchise....

i like retarded types that "add nothing" to this forum.
you're trying to rationalize the utter crap that was one and two (and four) because of how weak the premise was when really you're just admitting how incredibly sub-par the entire kit is as a whole

oh yeah.. it just wasnt possible to make ep 1 and 2 any good because it was setup. and lemme say, man, that setup is a black hole in filmaking. i mean, you wanna get in and out of that shit as fast as you can because it just RUINS the greatest artists.

BUT,

A and B suck, therefore C will rock.

:/

Ninjavenom Apr 23rd, 2005 12:52 PM

Adept has tickets to see it at midnight for the premiere show. I'm collecting dough to go see it myself :O

timrpgland Apr 23rd, 2005 01:58 PM

The main character of the whole star wars series is Anakin Skywalker, that was Lucas' plan from the beginning. The first one was stupid at times and the kid was annoying but this introduced everyone to Anakin and showed how in tune he was at a early age. Part 2 developed the love story a bit because it had to happen sometime before his fall otherwise how would he have kids? I never said 1 and 2 were awesome but I enjoyed following the story even though he messed it up at times.

Lucas had to keep to these points unless he wanted to get it all over with at once, instead he chose to lead up to the fall of Anakin and that is exactly what III will be. Therefore, I'm looking forward to it and I think it will be good.

If you think 4 sucked then oh well. A New Hope was classic storytelling.
