FORUM EVENT: "I-MOCKERY'S 2009 SECRET SANTA EVENT!"

YO HO HO HO! WELCOME TO...

SIGNUP THREAD

It’s Christmas time again and that means one thing: homeless people freezing to death in back alleys! Along with that, it’s also time for I-Mockery’s annual Christmas Secret Santa event. Every year, registered users from the forum come together to share in the holiday commercialism by buying and sending each other gifts that range from hilarious to just plain awesome. It’s tradition, so if you think you wanna join in the fun, be sure to reply to this thread. 10,000 Volt Ghost is running the event this year, so be sure to read the important rules he's posted below:

10,000 Volt Ghost Nov 16th, 2009 06:05 PM

How it works:

You sign up in this thread by stating that you want to join. The last day to sign up is November 24th. Send 10,000 Volt Ghost a private message with your full mailing address, real name and your forum name/alias. On November 25th, you will receive a PM with the name and address of the person you will be sending your gift to. At this point, you send out your gift before December 5th and get ready to receive a gift of your own! Upon receiving your gift, you must post pictures in this thread to show everyone what you got! It’s not mandatory, but many participants in the past have made a little story out of enjoying their gift(s), so do that if you wanna have extra fun! But at the very least, you need to post photos of what you received. Everyone needs to get pictures of the gifts they received posted by December 22nd.

Everyone has plenty of time to do all of that, so do it!

Special note for those of you who live outside of North America:

You’re more than welcome to participate, but pay special attention to the “how people will be split up” section below.

Rules and Guidelines:
This whole thing is for fun, but there has to be some assurance that everyone will keep up their end of the bargain, so failure to follow the rules and instructions will result in a permanent ban from the forums. Plus, we know Santa pretty well, and he’s assured us that messing up in any way will result in a nice big chunk of coal being rammed up your rectum! :D

Here are some general rules and guidelines everybody should follow:
  • Spend somewhere between 15-25 bucks on your gift. This amount does NOT include shipping costs. No one likes a cheapskate, so if this is too much money for you, get a job and join next year instead! Don’t go overboard and get something expensive, but don’t cheap out either. If you want to spend more than 25 bucks, you can, but please understand that you most likely won't receive something of equal monetary value. Then again, that's not what this is all about, so that shouldn't matter to you anyway, Scrooge!
  • Obey all deadlines. Screwing someone over, especially at Christmas, is a guaranteed ticket to hell! Let’s see if an eternity of torture will help you be punctual!
  • Before signing up, make sure you have a working camera. If you can’t upload pictures to your computer directly, there are other options such as getting your film developed and put on a CD. Uploading pictures of your gifts is just as important to our Secret Santa event as sending some gifts out is.
  • MAKE SURE YOUR ADDRESS IS UP TO DATE AND YOU WILL NOT HAVE ANY TROUBLE RECEIVING PACKAGES! It’s not hard to find your current address, so don’t fuck it up!
  • Don’t be cheap and make something. If you have to do that, keep the minimum spending amount in mind and consider sending other purchased stuff along with your creation as well.
  • Your mailing address CANNOT be a P.O. Box. No gifts will be sent to P.O. boxes nor will anyone with a P.O box as a mailing address be allowed to participate in the Secret Santa event.
  • Again If you fail to uphold your end of the deal, you will be permanently banned from the forums. So please, don't be a dick. We want this event to be fun for everybody.
  • YOU ARE NOT ALLOW TO PURCHASE GIFTS FROM DOLLAR STORES. We've had too many people get screwed over by cheap gifts at 99cent / dollar general stores, so please do not purchase gifts from them.
IF YOU’RE A NEW MEMBER(Registered AND active less than a year)

In an effort to cut down on people who might sign-up just to get free shit, new users need to take the following steps to be eligible to join in the fun:

1.Provide a picture of themselves holding up a hand-written sign that says both "I-MOCKERY SECRET SANTA 2009" along with their message forum name/name in plain view.

2. Post this picture in this thread for all to see.

3. PM 10,000 Volt Ghost, informing him that you are a new member who wants to participate in the secret Santa event. He will then send you a letter with a mailing address.

4.Send a test letter to the mailing address that you were provided with by 10,000 Volt Ghost. The letter needs to include your full name, return mailing address and your name here on the I-Mockery forums.

5.To ensure that you’re eligible to participate, do all of that as quickly as possible!

These steps are necessary to verify that you have a working camera and the motivation to get your ass to a post office.

DEADLINES!!!!

-The last day to SIGN UP is November 24th, ONE WEEK FROM TODAY (watch this thread because if we have an uneven number, we might accept more)

-The last day for SENDING your gifts out is December 5th

-The last day for POSTING PICTURES of the gifts you receive is December 22nd

MAILING YOUR PACKAGE:

-You MUST send out your gifts by priority or express shipping methods to ensure that everyone receives their gifts in a timely fashion. Someone will be doing this for you, so please do it for someone else.

-You MUST purchase a tracking number for your package so that you can keep track of it if there are any delays.

-Do NOT send a PM or email to the person who you are sending a gift to in an attempt to let them know that you're their Secret Santa. It's called "Secret" Santa for a reason, people. Half of the fun is people being surprised when they learn who their Secret Santa is!

RECEIVING YOUR PACKAGE:

-Post pictures of all the gifts you receive no later than December 22nd. If you want to be funny with it and make a video or something, that’s great, but just make sure you submit it all by the 22nd.

-Take pictures of ALL of your gifts. Half of the fun of this event is seeing recipients enjoying their gifts.

-If you don’t have your package and it’s getting close to the deadline for postings pictures, send a PM to 10,000 Volt Ghost so he can see what the delay is.

HOW PEOPLE WILL BE SPLIT UP:

Everyone who participates will be paired randomly with someone to send their gift to, but if certain conditions are met, some switches might have to be made:

Because this event attracts people from all over the world, special attention will be paid to making sure people won’t have to spend too much on shipping. This doesn’t mean that you’re guaranteed to get someone from the same country as you, but if there are only a couple participants from your part of the world, it’s a possibility. Either way, we will not tolerate complaints from people who refuse to mail packages outside of their country. If you have a problem with this, you shouldn't sign up because there's always a chance you will have to pay a little extra to ship your package out. This season is about giving, so you shouldn't be picky about little things like shipping fees.

Babs Nov 16th, 2009 06:06 PM

I'm in as well

Zomboid Nov 16th, 2009 06:21 PM

I don't wanna run it, but if you want to make things easy on yourself, just copy the rules and regulations from last year's event and tweak what's needed.

Also, I like that the intro I wrote last year is being used again :)

The Leader Nov 16th, 2009 06:54 PM

I would like to participate.

executioneer Nov 16th, 2009 08:35 PM

im in but it has to be REALLY REALLY secret this year or else :mad

Nick Nov 16th, 2009 09:53 PM

Alright, I'm in.

captain516 Nov 16th, 2009 11:29 PM

Like I said, I'm in. I think we should let 10k run it.

Zhukov Nov 17th, 2009 06:14 AM

If by "let 10k run it" you mean "force him to" then yes, I am in.

That's the Christmas miracle of copy-paste. I would've copied all the rules 'n dates, but I figured whoever decided to run the thing might want to change that stuff up a bit.

10,000 Volt Ghost - It looks like the job is yours this year. Make us proud!

:hohoho

stonewar Nov 17th, 2009 12:44 PM

I have been shopping for the perfect santa gift for the last week and checking the forum everyday for the sign up announcement

I AM SO IN!!!!!!!!!!1

(too eager?)

Protoclown Nov 17th, 2009 06:15 PM

Money is too tight this year, unfortunately. Have fun, guys.

BatmanJohnson Nov 17th, 2009 06:22 PM

I'm in!

Mockery Nov 17th, 2009 06:46 PM

Please take note that no gifts may be purchased from Dollar General / 99 cent type o' stores this year. We've had too many people get screwed over by stuff like that in the past (yes, myself included), so we want to make sure everybody gets something they like. If you want to buy something from the dollar store in addition to your $15 - $25 purchase from elsewhere, that's fine... just don't do the majority of your gift shopping there. Expired Hello Kitty fruit snacks does not make a good gift. :x

Microshock Nov 17th, 2009 06:50 PM

I have a feeling that I'm one of the people responsible for the no 99c store rule.

Yeah I'm in

MarioRPG Nov 17th, 2009 08:01 PM

This year shows the return of Willie so that means it will be the best yet so everyone get your hopes up! :D

executioneer Nov 17th, 2009 09:40 PM

someone gonna get cookies

Ozzie Nov 18th, 2009 05:44 AM

I totally want in on this. Was going to sign up last year, but money was too tight.

Pentegarn Nov 18th, 2009 11:57 AM

I am in as soon as I get the new place's mailing address (I don't have it memorized :P )

poppers620 Nov 18th, 2009 02:27 PM

Im in

dextire Nov 18th, 2009 02:33 PM

Yes! I want in!
Since I'm a new member here's the photo.

Pondering if perhaps I shouldn't have followed the instructions exactly to the letter (or number). :)

I take it by the very strict instructions that some people have gotten screwed in the past? That truly is awful.

Anyway, I hope I get in. Off to do the next step.

Mockery Nov 18th, 2009 03:48 PM

I'm sure you'll get in Dextire. I trust ya :picklehat

BatmanJohnson Nov 18th, 2009 04:36 PM

I'm not considered new am I? I've been here just over a year.

Mockery Nov 18th, 2009 05:01 PM

Nah, you're not considered new, BatmanJohnson. Plus I know you can post photos since you've already participated in the recent Halloween jack-o-lantern contest we had. So once 10,000 Volt Ghost logs back in and adds you to the list, consider yourself in.

Microshock Nov 18th, 2009 08:02 PM

You should advertise this on Doc Mock, the more users the merrier!

The Leader Nov 18th, 2009 08:08 PM

Microshock, if I'm your secret Santa you're going to get a box of broken fingers.

kakumei Nov 18th, 2009 08:14 PM

i am so in. i'm so excited i might cry a little.

executioneer Nov 18th, 2009 08:31 PM

Microshock Nov 18th, 2009 10:16 PM

BROKEN FINGERS FILLED WITH LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE?

Zomboid Nov 18th, 2009 10:31 PM

Wait, is Microshock in?

Microshock Nov 18th, 2009 10:51 PM

Sup.

Zomboid Nov 18th, 2009 10:58 PM

That's not an answer.

The Leader Nov 18th, 2009 11:04 PM

Yes, he is.

Zomboid Nov 19th, 2009 03:56 AM

Then I'm out. I was never officially in, anyway. I was kind of on the fence for it this year, but I don't wanna risk having a repeat of what happened to Proto.

Have fun, errrbody!

Pentegarn Nov 19th, 2009 06:27 AM

You should have not told us that and kept the info secret, now Willie's gonna get upset about that spoiler

10,000 Volt Ghost Nov 19th, 2009 11:08 AM

Updated.

BatmanJohnson Nov 19th, 2009 11:19 AM

I am so excited!!! I'm getting my Secret Santa Gift together today!!!

executioneer Nov 19th, 2009 01:16 PM

zomboid ill send you a secret santa present :-*

Nick Nov 19th, 2009 01:54 PM

Once I find out who I'm buying for I'm going to stalk them to find out all their dirty secrets. I will then give them the gift of being able to buy them back from me.

For a reasonable price, of course. This is the season of giving after all.

10,000 Volt Ghost Nov 19th, 2009 02:16 PM

Still waiting on some address info for some people. Please get this to me A.S.A.Probable.....as in you should probably get it to me within 3 days so I can let everyone know who they have.

Mockery Nov 19th, 2009 03:41 PM

Please cease with the arguing and drama about Microshock in this official event thread. He fucked up in the past. End of story. Let's move on with this year's event.

And yeah, if you haven't already, send 10,000 Volt Ghost your info for the Secret Santa event! Only a few days left to sign-up!

Zomboid Nov 19th, 2009 03:44 PM

Yar, I'll send that to ya right away. Christmas SEEEECRAAAATZ!

Really glad the dollar store rule is in effect. I went back and looked at some of last year's items, and I was reminded how fucking awesome some of them were... but I was also reminded of how absolutely terrible some of them were.

Hopefully some of the people who were skeptical will join in this time. Also, thanks again for the gifts, Proto. I'm moving into a new place and packed the fire-breathing nun and yodeling pickle last night. Alas, the mustache comb has been lost to the ages :(

captain516 Nov 19th, 2009 03:56 PM

Is still find it funny that ZBF didn't get banned for being an ass while Jixby got banned for not posting pics.

Zomboid Nov 19th, 2009 03:59 PM

It's always been made clear that not posting pics will get you baaaaanned. Plus, I'm pretty sure it's been said a bunch of times that if he really wanted to come back, he could ask to be unbanned.

And yes, everyone (and a certain someone in particular), sending out gifts late is considered fucking up. While not officially against last year's rules (but against this year's), sending out a bunch of dollar store shit is also not really appreciated.

Zomboid Nov 19th, 2009 04:38 PM

Speaking of which... do we even have any new people this year? Normally they come out of the woodwork for this event.

DonkeyRyan Nov 19th, 2009 05:02 PM

I would really like to participate in this! It gives me an excuse to finally register and become active on the forums.

Here is my picture:

Notice the moustache because it is November.

Do we have to use this exact phrase every damn year :domo :lol

Zomboid Nov 19th, 2009 08:00 PM

I was looking through the old threads earlier. Call it a throwback.

Nick Nov 19th, 2009 08:54 PM

I've been looking through gift ideas all day. I hope I get someone manly who will appreciate my manly gifts. B)

Hangie Nov 20th, 2009 06:53 AM

I was going to participate, but my dad doesn't trust you guys and thinks you're going to send a bomb to my house :(

Microshock Nov 20th, 2009 07:56 AM

Smartest dad in the world award

Tadao Nov 20th, 2009 12:51 PM

Can you two go be somewhere else. We are welcoming new people, not scaring them off. Please go be a downer elsewhere.

I'm new and I won't be scared away because I really want to participate in the secret santa.

10,000 Volt Ghost Nov 20th, 2009 01:44 PM

Still need addresses and names from people. You know who you are.

executioneer Nov 20th, 2009 04:55 PM

oh whoops

BatmanJohnson Nov 20th, 2009 11:50 PM

So excited. I've already got all the stuff for my Secret santa. My person is going to be lucky!!

dextire Nov 21st, 2009 03:03 PM

Looks like I'm in! I wonder what the participants with the "?" next to them mean? Maybe no photo, or no address yet?

I'm excited as well, BatmanJohnson! I have most of my stuff together already.
I'm going out later today to do some more Christmas shopping. So maybe I'll find some more cool stuff and be able to finish it up!

10,000 Volt Ghost Nov 21st, 2009 04:20 PM

?'s are for people who I either still need their info from or new people that they need to post a picture of themselves so I know they're a real person.

captain516 Nov 21st, 2009 07:03 PM

My stuff's almost ready. I hope whoever I get likes history.

kakumei Nov 22nd, 2009 02:43 AM

i thought about making my cat pose with me, but then i decided that i prefer it when my skin is intact.

Don't mean to be a kill joy, but I don't think you are really allowed to ship produce. Restrictions are really strict. Would hate for someone to not give their gift.

NotDavid Nov 23rd, 2009 12:43 PM

I'd love to do this but I just know I'd fuck it up somehow since I rarely ever ship things.

Microshock Nov 23rd, 2009 04:21 PM

You put the stuff in a box. If its easily breakable, you wrap it in bubble wrap. Get a marker and a piece of paper and write the return address (yours) in the upper left corner and the recipient's address in the middle. Tape it nice and securely to the top of the box. Or just use a marker and write on the box itself.

Then you take the box full of stuff to a post office. You wait in line or use the automated machine.

If you wait in line, give the box to the postal office worker and then they will do it all, you pay them 5-10 bucks. If you use the machine, do everything it says, put in a credit card and let it print out the sticker and put it on top of the box, then dump it in the big blue box.

Done.

It called lieing to the mailman. Its not like they make you swear an oath or nothing. I sent an apple to Canada last year and labeled it "homemade doll" on the customs slip.

BatmanJohnson Nov 23rd, 2009 07:02 PM

Glass is always acceptable if it smells nice. Candy is fine. Its perishable items you aren't supposed to ship. But if you've done it internationally before should be fine.

Nick Nov 23rd, 2009 08:03 PM

I hope I don't get some moldy lettuce. :(

Zhukov Nov 24th, 2009 03:45 AM

Yeah it was a joke killjoy >:

While not sending meat or eggs, I think I will send my person something made locally.

Wallaby meat is deeeeelish. We get the best wallabies here in Tasmania. Very fat and slow and tasty.

stonewar Nov 25th, 2009 05:19 PM

I need to get offline. I have been checking my personal messages every hour for my secret santa address so I can print the address label on the fancy labelwriter at work. I guess I'll pick it up monday.
Happy thanksgiving

10,000 Volt Ghost Nov 25th, 2009 05:42 PM

About to send them out within the hour.

BatmanJohnson Nov 25th, 2009 06:49 PM

Sweet I am shipping out friday!

dextire Nov 25th, 2009 07:45 PM

Just got my SS address! Shipping Friday for me as well.
Do you think we're getting a little too excited about this, BatmanJohnson? :)

Babs Nov 25th, 2009 08:39 PM

Whoever I got is a lucky son of a bitch.

BatmanJohnson Nov 25th, 2009 09:21 PM

I think we have an acceptable level of excitement. Besides nothing wrong with getting enthused. I honestly wanted to do this last year, but had housing issues.

DonkeyRyan Nov 25th, 2009 10:19 PM

Sweet. I'm going to try and ship Friday or Monday.
