Sexy.

Dr. Boogie Sep 10th, 2010 05:20 PM

Killer, in that it will kill the shit out of this site after working for 2 days in a row.

Tadao Sep 10th, 2010 05:20 PM

Can you take a picture of it? You know, with her parts exposed? :yum

No, that would be the current server we're on, as we all saw over Labor Day Weekend. :x

Nice thing about this upgrade is that since we're moving to new hardware, we're gonna get everything working on the new server before updating the DNS to point the site there. So there shouldn't be any real downtime on the site here. There may be a few forum posts lost when the migration takes place, but that's about it.

Does this mean that I will be able to get on the forums in the early morning! :O

oh shit son, we're on the bleeding edge of 1995 :O

in all srsness though you could build a computer like that for $600, especially since it doesn't have a gfx card

Chojin Sep 10th, 2010 05:52 PM

CPU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-225-_-Product
$232

MOBO
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-189-_-Product
$70 (this can actually do 1000Mbps ethernet, lol)

RAM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...20(2%20x%204GB)
$160

HDD (didn't say how big, but let's assume 1TB)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...20and%20higher
2x $70 (need 2 for RAID)

=$602

oh god my estimating skills are awesome, i should be a contestant on the price is right

i guess you'd need a case and PSU too, but since you don't need it to drive a gfx card you could either cannibalize something from a flea market or get a $20 bare-bones case w/ power supply.

Chojin Sep 10th, 2010 06:00 PM

i guess what i'm saying is i hope you didn't get scammed for like $2500 on the upgrade

The upgrade is free. My monthly hosting costs are the only thing going up, and not by much at all. But compared to what we're currently on, this is a big upgrade for the site.

This is what we're currently on by the way:

P4 3.0 GHz
2 GB DDR2 RAM
2 x 120 GB HDD (primary + backup)
2,000 GB Bandwidth

Fathom Zero Sep 13th, 2010 07:27 PM

Eww.

Chojin Sep 13th, 2010 09:00 PM

hahaha. the computer that we were putting in our arcade machines was better.

Mockery Sep 13th, 2010 10:56 PM

Precisely. I've been on this same server for ages, so it's definitely time to upgrade.

Nick Sep 14th, 2010 01:43 AM

There goes your meth money. :p

Fathom Zero Sep 14th, 2010 01:48 AM

I'm building a massive arcade table, but I'm also thinking of building a tiny one, like in a nightstand. Those kinda parts would be good for it.

Chojin Sep 16th, 2010 12:01 AM

I used to have a huuuuge server computer here. Thing was slightly larger than a mini-fridge. It had four 1-meg ram modules that were each about 12" x 4" (slightly larger than the biggest graphics cards on the market today).

I would use it as a chair. Wish i'd kept it.
