Obligatory Gaming forum Halo3 thread

we need one.

I also need to know which mockers will have it launch night so we can possibly set up a 4 player co-op preferably on Heroic.

Zomboid Aug 29th, 2007 01:41 AM

I pre-ordered it and everything, but I'm not a huge halo nerd and honestly I've played a total of maybe 10 hours of halo 2 multiplayer so I don't think I'll be joining in higher difficulty co-op modes for a bit.

Guitar Woman Aug 29th, 2007 01:56 AM

Is it coming out soon enough for a thread? I haven't heard anything about it.

darkvare Aug 29th, 2007 09:41 AM

september 25th is the launch date. also i remember playing halo 2 for a day straight i dont understand how my xbox handled it

ArrowX Aug 29th, 2007 11:33 AM

I expect the month of September will have nothing but a blitz of adds on TV. But I wasn't even aware of just how excited I am for this game, I shrugged off all the "pre-substantial trailer" rumors and buzz because the Hype for halo2 almost killed it for me when I played through a half finished campaign and a stellar multilayer. But since the beta I've been fucking nuts about this.

For those of you not in the know.

Fathom Zero Aug 29th, 2007 03:48 PM

ive never heard of this game. is it for playstation?

Magreaux Aug 29th, 2007 04:35 PM

Fathom Zero, I believe this "Halo 3" game is for Atari Jaguar.

EDIT: SORRY i've been told it's definitely for Atari Jaguar CD. Boy is my face red!

ArrowX Aug 29th, 2007 04:58 PM

No its not you idiots its for the 3DO >:

MattJack Aug 29th, 2007 07:21 PM

This is the reason why I didn't buy Bioshock.

I dunno if i'll have it the first day it comes out, but i'll have it within the week it does i'm sure.

noob3 Aug 30th, 2007 12:46 AM

haha what matt said about bioshock is so true ;D exactly what i thought when i wasn't purchasing bioshock, bro!

This almost makes me weep with how awesomely they did the intro :< But then I've been a huge Bungie fag since Marathon 2 and they're tying the Cortana letters in from just after Marathon Infinity and... and oh my :<

damn i was watching that and every guitar rift gave me the chills

ArrowX Aug 30th, 2007 03:24 PM

the mini bosses are without a doubt one of my favorite bands, also listen to their version of the Castlevania 2 night theme.

Chojin Aug 30th, 2007 03:56 PM

Funny thing is, I think the worst part of this entire presentation is the minibosses. They just completely fail to play most of the parts right.

Chojin Aug 30th, 2007 04:55 PM

For anyone who cares!

"I know who you are" references the final screen from Marathon: Infinity
http://marathon.bungie.org/Story/_im...inalscreen.gif

"This is the way the world ends" references the first of the Cortana letters from 1999.
http://marathon.bungie.org/Story/cortana.html#1

It's all pretty interesting (if you're into this sorta stuff) and coming full circle after 8 years. Check it out!
http://marathon.bungie.org/Story/cortana.html

ArrowX Aug 31st, 2007 02:31 AM

I think I have most of the basic story figured out, except how the game will end. Since the last level takes place on a Halo and not in the Ark.

Chojin Aug 31st, 2007 09:20 AM

Marathon Infinity ended with the collapse of the universe and you being the only person to escape. I predict a reprise of that in the ending to Halo.

Fathom Zero Aug 31st, 2007 04:16 PM

Any of you play the Marathon remake on XBLA? Looks really cool. I haven't had a chance to play it, though.

ArrowX Sep 1st, 2007 01:15 AM

I the end of the first halo was already tribute to Marathon, with the halo detonating and you supposedly being the only one to escape.

Its common knowledge that humans are the descendants of the Forerunners or at least a byproduct of the forerunners, since the ARK is the only place safe from the Flood and the halos weapons. The ark being located in Kenya around the same area where the earliest homo-sapiens were found.

I hope the Arbiter fucking dies. >:

Guitar Woman Sep 1st, 2007 02:21 AM

If MC and Cortana were the only ones to escape in the first Halo, how come that one Sergant is in the second one?

I know it's probably already been discussed a million times, but you know.

8ullfrog Sep 1st, 2007 07:34 AM

Halo 3

I went into gamestop to buy 50 cent bulletproof.

the Xbox version was $4.00 so I got that.

Then at the counter the clerk asked if I wanted to preorder halo 3.

Unthinking I pre-ordered legendary and paid up full.

So I'm just going to waltz in and pick mine up when it comes out.

I have small dogs, one will become the masterdog.

Or spartan #2

Oh, and 50 cent bulletproof is not compatable for the xbox 360, so I wasted $4.00.

Anyone try the halo 3 game fuel yet? It's like liquid crack.

You have to read the book Halo: First Strike to understand why Sgt.Johnson is still alive and how MC and Cortana made it back to earth in a short range interceptor. But for those too lazy SPOILERS:MC and Cortana find a Pelican clinging to wreckage that contains a couple marines, and a Navy Intelligence officer and another SPARTAN that was put into cryogenic suspension following the botched capture of a covenant ship at Reach in the prequel book. Then they capture a covenant ship that was running on a skeleton crew of a few engineers and elites since all its crew were caught on halo when it exploded. Then wackiness ensues and they wind up on another stolen ship and return to earth

Guitar Woman Sep 1st, 2007 06:23 PM

Why the fuck did you buy Bulletproof?

Chojin Sep 1st, 2007 09:06 PM

Because he is a retard.

darkvare Sep 1st, 2007 10:39 PM

50 cent bulletproof has only one reediming quality an it is you watch 50 cent diying and screaming to his friends fro help, even when the intro says he is the baddest mother fucker in the world lol. also has a good headshot mechaninc but that has nothing to do with 50 cent

ArrowX Sep 11th, 2007 10:38 AM

13 days 15 hours 21 minutes 25 seconds!

are you faggots ready for FORGE?

Matt Harty Sep 11th, 2007 01:49 PM

I'm buying my 360 when halo 3 releases. :)

noob3 Sep 11th, 2007 04:52 PM

get an elite, or that gay halo scheme 360 (i wish i had an elite or halo scheme 360 :( )

Matt Harty Sep 12th, 2007 01:38 AM

well all an elite has as an hdmi port which I don't need, and the 120 gb isnt needed cause i'm only going to play halo and maybe one or two other games. :o

ArrowX Sep 13th, 2007 01:01 AM

just buy the core system and then buy a 120GB hard drive

Matt Harty Sep 13th, 2007 02:29 AM

Like I said i'm waiting. The newer versions come with an hdmi port which makes it the same as an elite except no 120gb which you can buy seperate like you said. But most of the systems are still overheating even with the extra heatsink they added. I don't feel like sending my system back 8+ times like countless other people.

The newest 360's are getting the 65 nm processors which will run a bit faster, quieter, consume less energy, and not overheat.

As far as I know none of the systems have the new processors in them yet. I've tried finding new specs but no lucky. If anybody else knows whether 65nm versions are already out then i'm getting a 360 asap yo :O

Fathom Zero Sep 13th, 2007 07:52 AM

It's not that the chips overheated. It's that the X-clamps that held on the heatsink, (I think that's the part), would expand and the GPU would either short out or burn up because the thing wasn't close enough.

I can't quite remember which, but if you dug around and replaced the clamps with an insulative material, (after warranty, that is), you'd fix your problem fairly easily.

BTW, "insulative" isn't in the board's dictionary.

And I think the 65nm processors will be out later this year if I read right, if not already.

It's really hard to find info on this stuff since Microsoft doesn't release info on hardware changes, but the chips were shipped to US. yet I havent heard of any new systems containing them. And as you mentioned more people believe it's the GPU's size and not the processor causing the issues.

That's fine and dandy but i'm not buying a 360 until it stops being a piece of shit, and i'm worried it's gonna be a piece of shit forever and I wanna play Halo. :(

ArrowX Sep 15th, 2007 06:49 PM

I just got someones refurbished 360 back, I can tell its not mine since the one I had was a core system and they sent me back one with a metallic disk tray rather than my old Grey one.

the whole library level in Halo1 is redeemed by this 15 second clip!

Guitar Woman Sep 23rd, 2007 04:42 AM

I liked the Library. :(

Also, on Chojin's indirect reccomendation, I downloaded all three Marathons today.

Infinity has some mega claustrophobic level design. Also, it's really really dark, and I think this is the game where Bungie introduced their TIME HONORED TRADITION of every room in every level looking exactly the same.

1 isn't nearly as bad with crap like that, but I stopped playing it when I couldn't find my way around the service corridors in the first level, which were again ridiculously tight.

That said, 2 is fucking godlike. I highly reccomend it to all of you!

http://source.bungie.org/get/

HickMan Sep 23rd, 2007 06:54 PM

www.halo3.com has a walkthrough of the halo monument. Cool stuff!

DuFresne Sep 23rd, 2007 09:35 PM

Your synopsis is absolutely correct - Marathon 1 was pretty boring, bleak, and revolved around SOLVING PUZZLES, Infinity was WAY too cramped for any first-person shooter, and Marathon 2 is a shitload of fun with awesome story :<

I remember M2 and MI having really fun multiplayer, but it's been years since I've played it :<

Chojin Sep 24th, 2007 07:32 AM

Christ, you think they would have made those aleph one installs a little more sensical. I also can't get the chapter art to show up, which is a shame cause most of it's really pretty.

Anyway yeah, these are still the only FPS's from the 90s aside from Quake that I can still play and not vomit all over myself in the process.

By the way, GW, you can hit 'M' to bring up a dynamic overhead map.

Guitar Woman Sep 24th, 2007 06:22 PM

You must be doing something wrong, because I'm seeing all the chapter art when I play. Or am I? I wouldn't know, really.

And I got through Infinity's retarded first level with the automap and the fun factor shot up in an almost straight line. Tycho is a huge douchebag.

I managed to navigate the retarded part in the first one, too, and I am actually enjoying it the most out of the three of them. The stories for all the games are so well written that it feels like I am playing a book. A really good book! Plus, if I'm not mistaken, the corrupted AI logs and shit feels like something I'd find in a scan in Metroid Prime, which I always thought had a really cool storytelling method. This game might or might not have inspired that!

Aaaaaaaaaand for whatever reason I find the floating robot wizard thing's death animation really really satisfying. More enemies in games should phaze out of existance in a static explosion.

Also, I think I missed the Assualt Rifle in 2, because I'm on like level 4 with a pistol and a bunch of automatic rounds, and enemies are coming at me in gigantic groups that take forever to dispatch with that dinky thing.

I think I'm gay for this series, guys. :<

Chojin Sep 24th, 2007 08:23 PM

The thing I love about the marathon series is that there are no cutscenes - everything either plays out in real-time or you read about what happened afterwards, but it's still from your own perspective. You never really know what the AIs or anyone else is thinking, and you're left to deduce what's going on from the bits and pieces you can collect.

I also really enjoy that there's a reason you're there, a reason for what you're doing, and what you're doing is really quite clever (like in marathon 1, there's a part where you're closing airlock doors so that Leela can depressurize that entire section of the ship to kill a ton of Pfhor). In halo, the answer to everything seems to be having the master chief personally murder every last enemy - in Marathon, there's absolutely no way you can do that, so the AIs think of workarounds and ways that you can kill a bunch of them indirectly.

Also, I love the BOBs in M2 and Moo :<

Also, yes, you get the assault rifle in waterloo waterpark. You go down the opposite stairwell from the one that leads to the room with the pool of water and the chip.

Also, yes, the story is uncannily deep and excellent.
http://marathon.bungie.org/Story/

Guitar Woman Sep 24th, 2007 08:51 PM

I hope the levels in M2 that are filled with chest-deep water for me to wade through never go away. For whatever reason that is an awesome looking terrain to play from a first person perspective, even with archaic Mac graphics.

I also love charging up to tourquoise Pfhor and FALCON PUNCHING them to death. :<

ALL OF YOU SHOULD BE PLAYING THESE GAMES RIGHT NOW.

In actual halo news, I know G4 is a stupid channel and everything, but they're having a 4 hour Halo 3 countdown as we speak, and I am nerding the fuck out over it.

I don't even like Halo that much!

eggyolk Sep 24th, 2007 08:53 PM

I'm going to my buddy's dorm tommorow to participate in a Halo 3 sausage fest.

I can't wait!

Guitar Woman Sep 24th, 2007 08:56 PM

I'm actually finding it really hard to be excited about this when there are so many better things on the horizon.

Also probably because I don't have a 360, but what with my fat mexican Microsoft fanboy connections I should be able to play this before the week is up.

ArrowX Sep 25th, 2007 12:16 AM

I'm pumped, 1 hour!

But I have the fucking FLU!

ItalianStereotype Sep 25th, 2007 04:30 AM

Shifty Sep 25th, 2007 06:37 AM

halo 3 rocks!

HickMan Sep 25th, 2007 08:08 AM

This game has to be one of the most kenan and kel games I've ever played. EVER. Multiplayer is mad fun. They completly redid pretty much everything and improved all aspects. Especially physics when you run someone over with a ghost!

ArrowX Sep 25th, 2007 09:39 AM

needless to say its kicking my fucking ass! I expect co-oping between mockers >:

Guitar Woman Sep 25th, 2007 02:52 PM

What an overrated piece of crap!

Ant10708 Sep 25th, 2007 07:18 PM

Having fun with it so far. My xbox live name is Twiztid Ant if anyone cares to friend me and play.

New best vehicle: The Brute Chopper

ArrowX Sep 26th, 2007 02:59 AM

no way, its the Brute Prowler :rolleyes

I finished the campaign already, and I must say its not at all disappointing. Somewhat funny in parts.

ItalianStereotype Sep 26th, 2007 02:59 AM

darkvare Sep 26th, 2007 09:15 AM

El Blanco Sep 26th, 2007 11:21 AM

Shit, even if I bought it today, I can't play it for a week because my schedule is so busy.

How are the servers handling online play? Are there lots of bugs and crashes or was Bungie actually prepared this time?

HickMan Sep 27th, 2007 08:44 AM

Actually...I take that back. It's the MONGOOSE!

Shifty Sep 27th, 2007 02:23 PM

COME GET SOME!

ArrowX Sep 27th, 2007 10:52 PM

GET SOME BABY! YEAH!

ItalianStereotype Sep 28th, 2007 01:48 AM

so what's the deal with what I'm assuming are Forerunner message nodes? I've only found the one right after Cortana, but I'm hearing that there are something like 40 throughout the game.

ArrowX Sep 28th, 2007 02:56 PM

theres about 5 or 6 and they just give a bit of back story as to why the forerunner decided to activate the rings.

I found every skull but one and the last one is pissing me off.

Also I found out today that the game has 7 hidden terminals, and getting all of them gives you the MARATHON MAN achievement :D

Chojin Sep 29th, 2007 06:17 PM

Question: Is it bad that I kinda don't understand about half of the plot to this game? ;(

Chojin Oct 8th, 2007 03:48 PM

i bought the legendary edition, but i don't even own a 360!

ArrowX Oct 8th, 2007 04:02 PM

Its a DIRECT continuation from Halo2. the only thing that it doesn't explain is just how the Arbiter, Keys, and Johnson get to earth before chief, since the Dreadnought Master Chief was on is about 20 times faster than any of the ships those 3 had available

Also Bungie can't tell a fucking story worth shit. They aim for the moon but they put the ship upside down on the launch pad, so to speak

Chojin Oct 8th, 2007 06:15 PM

That sounds like a hilarious analogy that you read elsewhere!

timrpgland Oct 8th, 2007 08:52 PM

But wouldn't you know it I actually made it up. Just you wait, when you get that 360 chojin, you'll be forced to play team slayer with me and another 2 mockers. Only it will most likely be FUN!

MLE Oct 8th, 2007 09:49 PM

Also, what are you talking about ArrowX? Marathon has probably the most interwoven and indepth storyline of any game out there. Especially of FPSs. Jerk.
