Google Chrome

Google's new web browser went live today, and so far it seems to be pretty cool. I'm posting from it right now, in fact :D

Among its features:

Click and drag to expand text boxes (like the posting box :o )
"incognito" browsing
Quote:

You've gone incognito. Pages you view in this window won't appear in your browser history or search history, and they won't leave other traces, like cookies, on your computer after you close the incognito window. Any files you download or bookmarks you create will be preserved, however.

Going incognito doesn't affect the behavior of other people, servers, or software. Be wary of:
Websites that collect or share information about you
Internet service providers or employers that track the pages you visit
Malicious software that tracks your keystrokes in exchange for free smileys
Surveillance by secret agents
People standing behind you
Imports bookmarks from Firefox and IE
Startup page includes "most visited" pages and bookmark listing

I'm still playing with it, so I'm not ready to give it a full-on comparison with firefox yet. :(

Get it here:

I'm installing it, but I'm a total fag for FFs huge amount of addons, so probably won't stick with it. :(

I like the interface :eek

It took me a while to figure out how to get my bookmarks bar back up, but I'm liking it so far - pages don't seem to load any faster, but I like that the status bar now only pops up when you mouseover links.

I also am very much looking forward to having to make websites work in THREE different browsers, now.

I was reading that it uses the same setup as Opera or Kommando, so if it works in either of those it'll work in Chrome.

For some reason Chrome's mouse wheel scroll will scroll down but not up :\

That's the first thing I thought, plus the feature to stretch the text box could easily fuck stuff up :(

My thoughts exactly.

i'm tempted to download... you know how mozilla has the row of bookmarks below the URL bar? does this do the same?

Chojin Sep 2nd, 2008 09:37 PM

Yes, but you have to turn it on.

This "incognito" thing is pretty much the same as the FireFox "Stealthier" extension.

Booyah, fuckers. I knew there was something bad. Don'tcha love Google Megakorp?

Chojin Sep 3rd, 2008 05:02 PM

yes, i can totally seem them enforcing that in the months to come, geggy.

In all seriousness, I really don't think you have to worry about google laying claim to your 'Comprehensive list of tender moments between Captain Planet characters' wikipedia entry.

The only thing I dislike about this browser is how it downloads everything through itself, and treats saved pictures and whatnot as downloads, too. I mean, the first part seems reasonable and I can also tell it where to save my pictures to, but I still really don't like it and would rather use my download manager.

I don't think I can turn this off.

The crazy EULA thing was removed, by the way.

DevilWearsPrada Sep 6th, 2008 06:59 PM

I like how one of the things porn mode won't prevent is 'Surveillance by Secret Agents'

Chojin Sep 7th, 2008 12:03 AM

They removed the EULA after they got all of Fathom Zero's secrets. They are now satisfied.

Also as safari's private browsing, which I use constantly. I'm guessing that they're all the same no real benefits of one in paticular?

I NEVER USED CHROME

Unless...

NO
