You can only have one human follower and one robot follower.

Dimnos Nov 1st, 2010 04:57 PM

In your party at the same time? I get that. When I first went to him I only had Rex with me. I thought it must be some strange character conflict thing. So I took Rex back to Novac and had him stay in the room. Went back to Arcade and still no go. :\

Fathom Zero Nov 1st, 2010 06:01 PM

He doesn't like it if you're in good with the Legion at all. So be sure to really piss 'em off before asking him.

Also, did you have a follower before and lose them? 'Cause they're still attached to you. As is any character standing in the Casino lobby of the Lucky 38, since they're not allowed in the penthouse and default to standing there. There are a couple other locations like that, if memory serves. It's just bad design.

executioneer Nov 1st, 2010 06:47 PM

yeah, there's ways to correct that though. I think it was using the vault 22 elevator that was supposed to send all your companions to wherever you are from wherever they are? and if you asked them to wait for you somewhere, they'll eventually return to whatever their "home" is after a certain amount of time

Fathom Zero Nov 1st, 2010 07:27 PM

Yeah, I lost Arcade somewhere, so I did what some other guy did and waited for something like four or five days. Eventually, they'll go back.

OxBlood Nov 2nd, 2010 06:02 PM

Ah, I just love the sheer number of guns in this game...I thought I´ve seen most of them but then new ones come up for sale and I gotta have them...thanks to Jury Rigger, maintaining the expensive ones is no problem anymore...

Tadao Nov 2nd, 2010 06:44 PM

I just started playing last night. YAY ME!

OxBlood Nov 4th, 2010 08:25 AM

Huh...it doesn´t really speak for your qualities as a military leader if two strangers with sniper rifles can just walz into your tent and end your megalomaniac roman cosplay-act in under a minute, now does it...

If there´s one thing the post-apocalyptic future doesn´t need, it´s fucking romans.

LordSappington Nov 4th, 2010 04:09 PM

Yeah, me and Rex just stormed the damn base and killed everyone, including some slave with a name that was being a dick.
Go chainsaw!

Zomboid Nov 4th, 2010 04:24 PM

Yeah, they're not as tough as they think they are. Unfortunately, I beat the game with the NCR, so now I'm going pure evil with the Legion. Melee time :O

This is exactly what my plan was except Im thinking about going unarmed to check out all the special unarmed skills. I also I think im going to try it on hardcore too. I hope to kill every NCR i come across. :fu

OxBlood Nov 5th, 2010 06:26 PM

Beat it a moment ago with a Vegas-Ending. Really good game, better than its predecessor. And now it´s time for Doc Synder do step up and take the Mojave for himself.

Zomboid Nov 6th, 2010 06:14 PM

I helped the Powder Gangers take over Goodsprings. I smashed Doc Mitchell's head in with a shovel.

Tadao Nov 6th, 2010 07:20 PM

I wonder if you have way less quests when you're a bad guy.

WhiteRat Nov 9th, 2010 03:06 PM

I got into the strip by luring the stupid security bots away from the entrance, killing one, stealing the key, and then waltzing right in. It's great because every time I go into the strip the robots demand for me to stop but don't fire in time as I go in unscathed.

LordSappington Nov 9th, 2010 10:50 PM

Finally took out those goddamn Deathclaws in the quarry. Thank God for that Anti-Materiel rifle.

Fathom Zero Nov 9th, 2010 10:54 PM

Started a new game wherein I dumped loads of points into explosives, grabbed a bunch of C4, and killed Caesar pretty much out of the gate.

Zomboid Nov 10th, 2010 01:55 AM

I used some C4 to kill a Queen Radscorpion. Haven't used the Holy Hand Grenades yet, but I pissed around with them before reloading. They're essentially mini-nukes.

Zomboid Nov 11th, 2010 02:01 AM

I framed that Brahmin rancher in the UltraLuxe for the murder of his son, and the dialogue from the Securitron was hilarious. Good stuff. That whole quest is fun.

Tadao Nov 14th, 2010 08:36 PM

I've been taking my time and doing as many quests as possible on my first character. I got to Benny and

Spoilers!

Fathom Zero Nov 14th, 2010 08:49 PM

Depends. Did you pass every skill check in the conversation?

Tadao Nov 14th, 2010 09:54 PM

I tried every venue of conversation available to me, I think. I take it you fought as well then?

Fathom Zero Nov 14th, 2010 10:08 PM

My first playthrough. Then the second time I helped him out, up 'til I took off his head later.

I can say definitively that you can get to team up with him, at least for a while.

Zomboid Nov 14th, 2010 11:20 PM

I had him crucified.

Tadao Nov 15th, 2010 02:17 PM

I must have been doing it wrong. :( Thanks, I just wanted to make sure that it can be done.

Chojin Nov 15th, 2010 04:23 PM

i see no need to actually play the game now

Guitar Woman Nov 15th, 2010 07:16 PM

WASTELAND JUSTICE

Dimnos Nov 16th, 2010 09:03 AM

Zomboid Nov 16th, 2010 03:50 PM

I love how it sounds like those hallway carpets are just filthy and covered in shit, or something.

OxBlood Nov 17th, 2010 04:59 AM

I rerolled my Doc Snyder-Energy Guy and now I´m Mr. Gideon, homocidal maniac that speaks to his angry fists.
He basically punches people and is evil, that´s what I´m trying to say. Quite fun so far, destroying the good people of Goodsprings and siding with the Powder Gangers :) At the same time I´m pushing Speech so I don´t have to punch everyone everytime, very nice.

Dr. Boogie Nov 17th, 2010 03:50 PM

I finally got this game yesterday and spent all evening playing it. In that time, it crashed three times, with two of them being BSOD crashes. Still, it keeps me coming back for more.

Early on, I got bored with helping the Goodsprings people, so I raided the prison down the road. There I am, enjoying the bloodbath when I get a message about some guy named "Meyer" being dead. Who cares? Then I find out they wanted him to be the new sheriff of Primm. Oh well, I'm sure they won't mind being under martial law.

Later, I walked into Cottonwood Cove in leather armor, and walked out with centurion armor, and no one said anything. Maybe they just didn't notice the bloody bullet hole in the back of the helmet, or maybe they thought their leader was just taking a nap.

Also, the cowboy rifle is kicking the shit out of every new gun I find.

Tadao Nov 17th, 2010 04:18 PM

Yeah, the Cowboy Repeater was my favorite in the beginning too.

Zomboid Nov 17th, 2010 05:47 PM

There's a few options for a new sheriff in Primm. I got a robot to do it the first time. I also helped the Power Gangers take over Goodsprings this game.

The NCR has declared me a terrorist, so now they're attacking me on sight. What this has resulted in is me wiping out a few outposts and the embassy on the strip. I also murdered everyone in Jacobstown with an axe. Same deal with the Brotherhood of Steel base, though that was definitely a bit tougher.

OxBlood Nov 17th, 2010 06:07 PM

I just did Primm and the Jail too today. Worked for the Powder Gangers and got Meyer back as the Sheriff. Boone in Novac seems to hate me though cause the NCR can´t stand me...just because I murder their stupid Rangers with my Spike Knuckles...psh, sissies, they started it, I´m just fucking defending myself...by breaking their faces, true, but still, not my fault. They could´ve just handed the armor and guns over and walked away but noooo they have to get all bitchy and shit.

Zomboid Nov 18th, 2010 05:43 AM

I just spent like 20 minutes blowing Raul sky-high with C4 over and over again. Oh, and I found and killed the giant Cazador.

Mad Melvin Nov 19th, 2010 04:33 PM

I fucking hate cazadors. Aside from explosives, riot shotgun is pretty much the only usable weapon if you come across a large pack of those bastards.

In other news, I have been banned from two casinos for winning a shitload of caps. Gots me some implants and a huge boner.

Dimnos Nov 19th, 2010 04:39 PM

I find the plasma rifle Q-35 Matter Modulator works like a dream on them. :)

I bet. Only problem is that my energy weapons skill is around 15. Never cared for them.

OxBlood Nov 20th, 2010 09:34 AM

Yeah, Cazadors are about the most annoying enemy in the game I think, good job on creating a small deathclaw so to speak. I mostly relied on Veronica to distract them while I shot them with whatever normal gun I had. The Gobi Rifle works well of course, being about the most useful and powerfull weapon in the game...

But it doesn´t help that you can´t target their head due to a bug, unless they´re right ON you. Makes it a lot harder than it should´ve been. I wonder how my unarmed guy will fare against them.
I also noticed that for a unarmed-build that really only uses Unarmed as its only attack-skill, you don´t have that many specific perks to choose from. No Ninja, no Superslam, just Piercing Strike, Stonewall and Slayer. Paralyzing palm only works if you´re fighting with your fists, so that one isn´t useful either...Purifyer maybe but it´s only worth it for the Deathclaws I guess.
Well, that leaves a lot of slots for utility-perks. I took Terrifying presence, I wonder how that´ll work out.

Also, since my first Character had a Speech-skill of about 12, I can safely say: Damn, I missed a lot of opportunities, Speech is extremely useful :)

Though I do have a massive problem right now. I´m in Vault 34 and I´m fighting the "boss" there along with his 2 turrets and I can´t really reach them so there´s no punching them either...I guess I´ll have to leave, stock up on explosives and come back or something like that...

Tadao Nov 20th, 2010 11:22 AM

I think my second character will not do 1 quest if possible. I'm just gonna run out to the hills, get exp via killing, then kill towns people. I doubt that will work. :(

OxBlood Nov 20th, 2010 12:01 PM

It could work, though you would probably take longer to level since there´s only so much lowlevel enemies around until they respawn (if they do, I don´t know how the game handles that).

And of course you can´t finish the game without doing quests but you know that of course :D

One stick of TNT was the solution to my little vault-problem and I´ve arrived in Vegas once again, doing stuff for the Kings. I want the dog :D

Tadao Nov 20th, 2010 12:15 PM

Yeah, I don't think it will work because I haven't found any respawns.

Zomboid Nov 21st, 2010 04:29 PM

Cazadors seem to respawn, but I haven't really noticed a trend for anything else. There was one abandoned warehouse/boathouse or something near one of the large bodies of water, and it had a bunch of Cazador nesting stuff inside; that's where I go when I need a couple hundred exp.

Oh, and I mainly use the chainsaw with my melee/explosives guy. The special attack in VATS does a shitload of damage.

Tadao Nov 22nd, 2010 12:19 AM

I've been to that boathouse. I'll have to go back and see. My light machine gune makes short work of them. I'm sure I'll get tons of exp from killing people, it might be really tough in the very beginning though. I'm not sure how tough the town of Goodsprinf will be At level 5. Also I sure hope the robot doesn't interfere.

Zomboid Nov 22nd, 2010 01:52 AM

He actually shows up and defends you sometimes. He saved me from a giant radscorpion when I was way too weak to take one out.

I had Rex as my companion throughout the game and the little guy can pack a punch. Although I was disappointed when I was ready to start the attack on Hoover dam with the legion that he wasn't waiting for me at the Lucky 38 like I told him too. Never saw him again. :(

OxBlood Nov 23rd, 2010 04:32 AM

I had ED-E with me in the Vault but he was lying around in shables most of the time...I don´t know if anyone can keep a companion alive on Hardcore for more than a minute...they die so damn quick...

Disappearing companions are really stupid, I agree...I think Dogmeat did that often in F3 too. Maybe it´s a dog-thing who knows. I hate that they don´t teleport to the Lucky38 but start walking towards it, that´s fucking stupid. Realistic but stupid. Just port them there, problem solved, nothing can happen to them.

Tadao Nov 23rd, 2010 08:54 PM

I gave Boone a Gladius Machete and now all her does is run into battle and get in the line of fire. He one hit kills a lot of people though.

LordSappington Dec 4th, 2010 12:14 PM

Mr. House's ending was just plain disappointing. :(

Supafly345 Mar 21st, 2012 07:09 AM

Once again, I only get games after the DLC is all in one package... and the game is used.
Soooo, this game is sort of a give and take from FO3. They beefed up the levels, made the perks a hell of a lot better, and overall the character growth system is many times more enjoyable to make. However, the core of the game seems to have been diminished: the exploring. FO3's major strength over every other open world game of this kind was how fantastic its exploring was. Every dungeon had a distinct narrative, and there was little crap to discover here and there just for fun.
This game however seems to punish exploration, there is nothing to find. They have map markers to just mark areas in the middle of nowhere with nothing more than a boring dead body to populate it, and the areas that actually do have something only offer a tiny bit of consumables. The only good stuff comes from killing people, so scavaging through refuse is completely meaningless in this game.

Admittedly I've only been playing a about 6 hours, but it feels like they took all the comments and complaints about how to make FO3 better and used them to make a new game, but forgot to leave in all the stuff that was good about FO3 in the first place.

I think you have a point there. When I was playing New Vegas, I didn't really notice the lack of those "mini-stories", like the robot in FO3 that sang lullabies to dead children, because the quests in NW were so much better compared to FO3, that exploring the world was kinda secondary. Still, NW is far superior to FO3, IMO, and i'm pretty sure there is a mod to NW which adds some random locations with some cool shit.

Dimnos Mar 22nd, 2012 12:27 AM

If you have it on hard mode and have to scavenge for food and clean water, scavenging almost becomes required. If you really want to get into the crafting, the game becomes a huge scavenger hunt.

Guitar Woman Mar 24th, 2012 01:54 PM

Where do Rex and ED-E go when you dismiss them from your party? They don't seem to be at the Lucky 38 with my other companions, and otherwise I've got no idea where to start looking.

I wouldn't mind without them so much except that even with the Riot Shotgun and Reinforced MKII Combat Armor, Cass gets killed really really easily in high-risk fights, like the Legate clusterfuck at Hoover Dam. I don't want to use another companion because she's my favorite character in the game.

Dr. Boogie Mar 24th, 2012 03:05 PM

I think ED-E goes to Primm, and Rex goes back to the King?

executioneer Oct 20th, 2013 01:07 AM

my last playthru of this i reverse-pickpocketed a landmine into Benny's pants it was the best :sunglasses

LordSappington Nov 30th, 2023 05:02 AM

I do not know how many characters I've played this game through with. It and DOOM II are my favorite games, ever.
