Sultan Azlan Shah Cup

Argentina has been able to get some revenge against the New Zealand men's hockey team at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Malaysia.

Squaring off for the first time since their Olympic qualifying match, Argentina has won 2-1, ending any hope the Black Sticks might have had of making the tournament final.
Black Sticks coach Shane McLeod says he was able to take a lot out of the match, despite the loss. He says their fitness was the most impressive aspect of the match and to dominate the last 25 minutes of the game was very pleasing as it is something they have been targeting.

However, they did not capitalise on the large amount of possession they had late in the match and while they were pushing for an equaliser in the second half, Hayden Shaw did not have his usual success at penalty corners.

McLeod says once he was able to get beyond the vanity of losing he has been able to see they are making great progress and are on track for Beijing. The loss to the South Americans follows defeats against Pakistan and Malaysia.
You think you're all that for winning, El Pila? WELL IN YOUR FACE, THAT WAS OUR PLAN ALL ALONG! Yeah!

A second win at last for the New Zealand men's hockey team at the Sultan Azlan Shan tournament in Malaysia.

The Black Sticks have thumped Canada three-nil, with goals from David Kosoof, Dean Couzins, and Nick Wilson. However, they are out of contention for the final, due to three earlier losses to Pakistan, Malaysia and Argentina.

The Black Sticks had beaten India in their opening match.

The women will be especially happy to have avoided pool B which features four of the world’s top teams – Netherlands, Australia, China and Korea. The Black Sticks Women have been placed in pool A where the biggest challenges come from Argentina, Germany and Japan.
We'll find out. >:
