Final Fantasy VII: The Movie

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/451/451541p1.html

Well this is a surprise. I thought Square wasn't going to make anymore movies. I guess they haven't learned anything from Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.

Cap'n Crunch Sep 25th, 2003 04:47 PM

I might actually see this. This is one of my favorite Final Fantasy titles. :(

Anonymous Sep 25th, 2003 04:58 PM

I'll bet it has nothing to do with FF7, despite the pictures.

Supafly345 Sep 25th, 2003 05:12 PM

So they take the best Final Fantasy ever made and sequal it into... a straight to DVD movie? I hate cutscenes bad enough as it is, now they are going to ruin my life by making what could probably be the most anticipated event in RPGs nothing but one bigass cutscene?
I know I love SquareEnix's graphics too, but I really don't play games to "find out if those two characters ever got together."

I didn't read the article on IGN, but there is a very good chance that this could be a DVD for the PS2 only, allowing interactive options as were planned for a PS2-only The Spirits Within DVD that was never made. It would include simple things like changing the camera angles and zooming in/out, and more.

Personally, I was always against a FF7 sequel. I felt that while X allowed for a continued storyline, 7 dusted its hands and walked off into the sunset. Everything was finished. And while you didn't know what happened with everyone, that's what made it so great. You could be thinking, "So what happened with Cloud and Tifa? Where'd Barret and Marlene settle? Did everyone die?" that's what made the game so great. Not everything was folded into a neat little package. You got closure, while still having questions that never really felt like they needed to be answered.

But now we're getting those answers. I'm not particularly happy about that, because it's an obvious case of appealing to fans vs maintaining artistic integrity. But to be honest, if they were gonna make a sequel for it, I'm glad it's a movie rather than a game.

They need to make a Chrono Trigger movie.

I would go as far as to say that they couldn't possibly make a bad movie out of Chrono trigger, but that'd be jinxing it. :/

James Sep 25th, 2003 05:43 PM

I've been struggling through Chrono Trigger for about 4+ months now. I don't see what all the boners for it are about. It's incredibly generic in storyline, and the gameplay is unique only to a mild extent.

Supafly345 Sep 25th, 2003 05:52 PM

thats because it set the standard. All other rpg's copied it.

James Sep 25th, 2003 05:59 PM

Set the standard for sub-par RPGs? No wonder I stick to Final Fantasy.

Seriously, the game just brings nothing to the table to draw me in. I want to beat it and move onto Final Fantasy 5 (I'm doing an RPG Completion Quest), but I always dread sitting down to play it.

It doesn't help that the PSX version contains a lot of lag time. Going to the menu screen, going to a new area, starting/ending battles all have a few seconds of pause before happening.

But this is for the Gaming forums.

Psycho Squid Sep 25th, 2003 06:08 PM

On a related note, there is also rumors of a Kingdom Hearts television series but I'll wait till Square makes their announcements at the Tokoyo Game Show tomorrow to talk about it.

Royal Tenenbaum Sep 25th, 2003 08:19 PM

Final Fantasy VIII is the best. :( They need a sequel to that!

AChimp Sep 25th, 2003 10:11 PM

The cutscenes from Warcraft 3 beat the shit out of those screenshots. >:

Rez Sep 25th, 2003 10:34 PM

a movie based on one of my favorite games ever...
normally this would be a bad thing, but FF7 was such a beautiful thing that i'm going to HUNT this down.

CaptainBubba Sep 25th, 2003 10:43 PM

Chrono Trigger is god. :(

I can't even begin to explain why. A big part is the music and I'll admit, the nostaligia. FF3 and Earthbound are its only contenders in my mind.

I will see this movie though if it does come out. I missed the Final Fanstasy movie before. I still have to see it. :/

Schimid Sep 25th, 2003 10:47 PM

"Valley Of The Fallen Star" IS THE BEST VIDEO GAME SONG EVER >:

IF THEY DON'T PLAY IT IN THE MOVIE, I'LL BE PISSED.

Psycho Squid Sep 25th, 2003 11:19 PM

I hope Lance Bass comes back to voice Sephiroth again.

Poxpower Sep 26th, 2003 12:03 AM

Sephiroth was voiced? Uh? I don't remember anyone talking in there..
Whatever.

I'm sure the'll find a way to make this real crappy and make many fans cry.
Sorry but saying otherwise would be jinxing it.

and lying.

Chrono Cross anyone? Am I the only one who liked that game (and got all 44 caracters :P)

Psycho Squid Sep 26th, 2003 12:21 AM

In Kingdom Hearts he was, kinda. He just made a few grunts during the fight with him.

Supafly345 Sep 26th, 2003 07:57 AM

That fight is impossible in hard mode. There is no way to beat him. >:
I will hate Lance Vance Bance Dance forever because of it. (wasn't he in the new boys on the street?)

ShanghaiOrange Sep 26th, 2003 10:16 AM

They should make an Earthbound movie. :(

Rongi Sep 26th, 2003 01:59 PM

Chrono Cross is THE worst game ever made. Ever.

CaptainBubba Sep 26th, 2003 02:08 PM

Agreed. If for no other reason then it crushed my hopes of a worthy sequel to the game I love. :(

An Earthbound movie would have limitless potential, but also limitless room to be horrible.

Royal Tenenbaum Sep 26th, 2003 03:57 PM

Chrono Cross was awesome. >:

Schimid Sep 26th, 2003 04:06 PM

I want to make a video game theme park with Onett as a kid's playground so the big parents can go on the Starfox flight simulator. :(

Poxpower Sep 26th, 2003 10:16 PM

Seriously though, if you actualy played the games intead of following the usual "sequel < original" and "old > new" rules, you'd enjoy many more things.
Wow I so am losing my time with this, with a site filled with nostalgia driven people.
Like me.
