So, ummm... tax day was yesterday, wasn't it?

Anybody know the penalties for filing your state taxes late/ not filing state taxes? I completely forgot about state this year, and I'm worried that I'm going to be fucked by the government now. :(

but since you're too lazy to look stuff up yourself, I'll go ahead and save you the trouble of clicking that link and reading it - get ready for Federal Pound-me-in-the-ass Prison!

Immortal Goat Apr 18th, 2006 03:14 PM

I tried to find it on there. I guess I missed it :(

ziggytrix Apr 18th, 2006 03:22 PM

You could claim that you filed online, but because you suck at the internet, it didn't go through. :conspiracy

kahljorn Apr 18th, 2006 03:28 PM

my girlfriend hasn't filed for three years and she hasn't been bothered or gone to jail. Also, when she went to get her taxes done there was the option of having back taxes done. Maybe you should do back taxes when there's a liberal in office, although some people got pretty decent returns.

Maybe you're talking about a different type of tax than my girlfriend was doing, though. I don't really have that much experience with the taxing system.
Are you talking about one of those quarterly tax things, in which you don't have taxes normally withdrawn from your pay?

Immortal Goat Apr 18th, 2006 04:05 PM

Nope. Yearly income tax return is what I'm talking about. That back tax thing is a relief though.

Ya, but once she graduates junior high, the government's gonna nail her with back taxes.

The One and Only... Apr 18th, 2006 04:28 PM

There was a recent case in which the Supreme Court ruled that one cannot be forced to file taxes because it violates the right to privacy.

The poor guy had to wait ten years in jail for the ruling, however.

mburbank Apr 18th, 2006 05:35 PM

I think you are talking out your ass. If the supreme court said you didn't have to file no one would. Support your bizarre claim and admit you are a tool for promulgating urban legends.

kahljorn Apr 18th, 2006 07:03 PM

There was a story in the paper a long time ago about a guy who used to work for the IRS supposedly getting people out of paying their taxes because technically the IRS isn't a part of the government.

"Ya, but once she graduates junior high, the government's gonna nail her with back taxes."

That doesn't even make sense you can't hold down a job in elementary school unless you're living in the 1800's or in some third world country but I'm pretty sure it's frowned upon and possible illegal to be working if you're in elementary school.
I haven't filed my taxes either. I'm pretty sure there's thousands of lazy people who don't file them, because they know they aren't going to get jack shit.

Guitar Woman Apr 18th, 2006 07:04 PM

pfft I paid my taxes you stupid cheap fucks!

kahljorn Apr 18th, 2006 07:06 PM

from what I understand taxes are automatically taken out of everything you do. So i dunno what you guys are talking about.

Immortal Goat Apr 18th, 2006 07:11 PM

Well, I usually get a return. Now, I'm just getting my whopping 91 bucks back from our great nation, and nothing from the state.

Meh, I'm not going to worry. If they don't regularly check shit like that, I'm not going to worry.

I

You, sir, suck.

Geggy Apr 18th, 2006 09:25 PM

I have something to say that will make y'all very, very angry. Because of my disability, the state figured that I'm too "stupid" and "handicapped" to do my own tax so, every year, they provide all of those who share the same disability as me an accountant to work on our taxes for FREE. Hahaha...stupid americans....how I love to take advantage of your ignorange...

ziggytrix Apr 18th, 2006 09:25 PM

i'm shocked by the displayed lack of knowledge of income tax withholdings, filing, and the like.

aren't most of you guys over 18 and working at least part time jobs? you need to know this stuff.

kahljorn Apr 18th, 2006 09:42 PM

lol i dont have a part-time job ;(

We were only going to get five dollars back, and we only made 12k last year. You'd think people below the poverty line would have a higher return.

ziggytrix Apr 18th, 2006 09:47 PM

they would if they'd bother to learn what a W-4 is for, and use a little basic arithmetic. >:

If you've NEVER filed an income tax return before, I can understand it being confusing, but after your first time, there's really no excuse. A mentally retarded lemur could fill out a 1040EZ.

virginia state taxes aren't due to be filed until may 1st. but we already got our federal and state refunds more than a month ago anyway. kevin's great for my procrastination tendencies. :love

ziggytrix Apr 18th, 2006 09:48 PM

oh man, I suck at internet. dunno how i totally glossed over the fact goat was talking about state taxes. :(

posting from work is BAD i tell you!

executioneer Apr 18th, 2006 10:33 PM

lol @ state income tax

kahljorn Apr 18th, 2006 10:52 PM

"A mentally retarded lemur could fill out a 1040EZ."

We did a 1040ez, and we were going to get 7 dollars back. It took about two minutes to do.

Immortal Goat Apr 19th, 2006 12:05 AM

Ok, I just filed online. It cost 13 bucks to do, but whatever, my actual state return is larger than my federal. I'm getting 91 from federal, and 93 from the state.

Oh, and I only made about 8,000 last year, so I think you're doing something wrong, Kahl.

kahljorn Apr 19th, 2006 01:45 AM

From what I understand 8,000 is just at some particular line where they don't take out a certain deduction. Sorry I don't have very good information about that at the moment, but I'm sure ziggy will be here with his superior tax knowledge to let you know.
