The Longest Journey is one of those unknown indie games that isn't actually any good

pac-man Mar 12th, 2009 12:46 AM

Thanks, GW. Now I know for sure this is a great game.

EDIT: Sorry if my sig reminds you of the thread that exposed you.

k0k0 Mar 12th, 2009 05:07 AM

At the moment, Star Ocean 4 and it's totally awesome. A really great jrpg.

Guitar Woman Mar 12th, 2009 01:01 PM

I was talking about the original one but ok

bigtimecow Mar 15th, 2009 03:00 PM

medievil, syphon filter, twisted metal 2 (<3 PSN), on the last chapter of dead space, and trying to get fucking fallout 3 to work on my computer >: THANKS A LOT VISTA

Girl Drink Drunk Mar 15th, 2009 03:55 PM

Hook (SNES) and Street Fighter IV.

bigtimecow Mar 16th, 2009 02:00 AM

bought re5 today and played it for about 3 hours online will my friend. wonderful experience!

and i beat dead space today and am proud to say that i'm returning it tomorrow because it was absurdly repetitive, isaac was an awful character, and it had the zero G element, which was amazing and extremely fun, but they fucking ruined it

kahljorn Mar 16th, 2009 03:43 AM

I love resident evil 5:)

OxBlood Mar 16th, 2009 08:17 AM

RE5 and Persona 4...two excellent games, even though I like Persona quite a bit more.

Phoenix Gamma Mar 16th, 2009 02:32 PM

I was wondering when Europe was gonna get it :D

Near the end of Valkyria Chronicles. I love mowing down foot soldiers with my tanks. And the class upgrades made me replay a few skirmishes for experience. I can't wait for the DLC.

OxBlood Mar 18th, 2009 08:18 AM

Yeah, it´s been almost a year since you got it in the US, right? Anyway, I´m just glad we got it at all. Now they just have to port Persona 1 and 2 for the PSP and I´m a really happy guy.

Phoenix Gamma Mar 18th, 2009 04:42 PM

We only got P4 in December :X

Also, P1 and both P2 games are playable through popsloader or whatever the hell my PSP does when I load modified PSX games. I tried the translation of Innocent Sin, but the combat was awkward :(

Anyways, Henry Hatsworth came out, and that game is pretty funny. I wish the puzzle and the platforming were more simultaneous, like The World Ends With You, but I think this is probably a more casual title. Either way, it's pretty good.

Someone also reccommended me this Animal Crossing knock-off for the DS, called Enchanted Folk. Instead of running around and collecting clothes, money and furnature, the game lets you do that and learn spells (a student used a fart spell on me randomly :( ) and take part in different quests and shit. And the campus is pretty big and has lots of shit to do.

I'm kinda impressed by how much stuff is in it, even if the game is too fucking cute for its own good. If anyone here actually likes Animal Crossing, you might like Enchanted Folk.

Emu Mar 18th, 2009 08:43 PM

P1 is being ported to the PSP this... June, I think? It's getting a retranslation and the Snow Queen quest has been re-added, which will only make sense to you if you're a giant faggot into sorta-obscure RPGs like I am oh god

For P2's combat, change the Battle Mode to Single. That way you get to choose new actions every turn instead of having it just cycle endlessly. I don't know why it isn't set that way to default.

thread-relevant content: I am playing Alundra.

Microshock Mar 18th, 2009 08:52 PM

I finally beat all the planets in Arcade in Super Stardust HD and wow, what a fucking frustrating game.

It's 5 phases, and if you lose at any point, you have to repeat all of those phases even if you reach the boss, and i was playing on EASY MODE!
I also played it co op and my friend liked it but fuck, i hate games that frustrate me like prince of persia's broken combat system

Zomboid Mar 18th, 2009 09:00 PM

KILLZONE 2.

Man, this game is fucking AWFUL.

Emu Mar 18th, 2009 09:18 PM

hahaha it really is :(

Well I guess I have a reason to put it back on my memory stick then, because I was seriously confused when I picked one command and wasn't doing anything for the rest of the battle :(

darkvare Mar 19th, 2009 02:37 AM

i finally goy chinatown wars, man this game is awesome the city is the same from gta 4

Donīt worry, even I knew what that meant and I never played P1 and P2...but apparently I read about that Snow Queen stuff...I guess.

Microshock Mar 19th, 2009 07:27 AM

Blast Factor is the same shit as well but seems like they copied Super Stardust HD but somehow made it more frustrating since a single "survival cell" is about 8 levels...

:/

timrpgland Mar 19th, 2009 05:31 PM

I've been playing The Nameless Mod that just came out for Deus Ex after 7 damn years (http://www.thenamelessmod.com/trailer/) and Dragon Quest V mainly.

bigtimecow Mar 19th, 2009 06:38 PM

chapter 5 in resident evil 5. i think we should have it beat by tonight or tomorrow. then its merc mode baby :D

also, returning dead space tomorrow to buy GTA4

Zomboid Mar 19th, 2009 08:17 PM

Final Fantasy 2/4!

Phoenix Gamma Mar 19th, 2009 11:45 PM

So I finally beat Valkyria Chronicles, meaning I'll finally shut up about it :D That game seriously ups the ante at the end; parking tanks on inclines to aim high up? Luring a dreadnought through a minefield to stop it in its tracks? Hijacking a battleship?

Man, why are other strategy games all about fighting on the same grids? This is the kind of stuff the genre needs. Damn developers and their copy paste formulas :(

Now that I put enough hours into my PS3, I think I'm gonna buy Pikmin and Madworld when I get my paycheck tomorrow. I haven't tried Pikmin on Gamecube, so I'll have some fun with that. I also reccommend GTA:China Town Wars to any DS owners here. All the cool shit from the 2D and 3D games, plus this neat drug dealing system; a fun way to kill time and teach children the art of selling dope.

darkvare Mar 20th, 2009 12:55 AM

i finally got my hands on an r4 and i love jump ultimate stars but it angers me seeing it and knowing no smash bros is being made for the ds

Groovy, I've already got it.

bigtimecow Mar 20th, 2009 09:15 PM

Babs Mar 22nd, 2009 01:09 AM

Little Nemo the Dream Master on the most amazing console ever which I will not state because you jackasses should already know what it is.

executioneer Mar 22nd, 2009 03:11 AM

Phoenix Gamma Mar 22nd, 2009 09:42 PM

Bit Trip Beat for WiiWare. It's this amazing cross between Rez and Pong. Really hard, but really fun. Definitely worth checking out.

bigtimecow Mar 22nd, 2009 10:45 PM

re5 is done, doing it again in co-op, but not online, in veteran mode. mercenary mode is so fucking hectic i love it

made it out of the vault in fallout 3, then in megaton killed the sheriff. later reloaded because it turns out that the people of megaton don't like when someone kills their sheriff because he just wants to wear his hat. otherwise, making my way to... can't remember the name, but killed my first super mutant (or brute, fuck i can't remember right now) and it was quite a challenge. i feel like this game presents itself as super complicated and doesn't really introduce you very well into all of it's open endedness, which at first turned me off, but now i think i pretty much understand everything (except my radiation reading or whatever the fuck that is in the top right)

oh, and my game got stuck when i went to take the GOAT so i had to read online that this is a fucking bug that still hasn't been fixed >:

edit: that that that that that that

Delirium Mar 23rd, 2009 12:21 PM

Iīve been playing lots of Ninja gaiden sigma for the past couple of weeks. I beat it on hard yesterday, just started on Very hard, and goddamn, its fucking hard alright. I havenīt cleared the first stage yet because its so insane.

Guitar Woman Mar 23rd, 2009 12:37 PM

Counter Strike Source.

It's pretty bad, but all the high-strung veteran players make for a completely fantastic griefing environment.

Microshock Mar 23rd, 2009 03:31 PM

Bigtimecow, i should be getting resident evil 5 in the mail soon, i really liked the co- op in the demo so im looking forward to this..

And counter-strike: source is really awesome for griefing, get a friend, tell him to go on the other team, kill everyone but yourselves and just party and wow they get pissed..

But i do really like all the modes css has.

Ant10708 Mar 23rd, 2009 03:34 PM

Call of Duty: World ar War

new maps plus new zombie map! First DLC i ever bought. I wish I could've just bought the zombie map but the others aren't bad.

Fathom Zero Mar 23rd, 2009 04:29 PM

Wheelman is awesome too. :eek

Microshock Mar 23rd, 2009 09:26 PM

Oh fuck that Riddick demo, i dont understand why they fucked up the best part of the original game, melee combat.
Melee felt so good in that game, with left hand being left trigger and right hand being right trigger but now its just one trigger to attack, it doesnt have that same satisfying feel

Zomboid Mar 23rd, 2009 09:52 PM

Yeah, it lacks the smooth, natural-feeling controls of Killzone 2.

WhiteRat Mar 23rd, 2009 10:37 PM

GTA 4. Damn near close to beating it finally.

MetalMilitia Mar 24th, 2009 07:01 AM

I jumped back into Battlefield Heroes yesterday and it's got so much better than the last time I played it. I think it'll actually be a very popular game once it's released.

Fathom Zero Mar 24th, 2009 07:28 AM

If it is ever released.

I bought Watchmen: The End Is Nigh, Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty, and Crash Bandicoot Warped yesterday off of the PSN. All badass. Watchmen was better than I thought, though it's still monotonous. I didn't hold that against it, though. It is a beat'um-up. It's actually very pretty.

MarioRPG Mar 24th, 2009 09:26 PM

MadWorld, de Blob, Viewtiful Joe, Okami.

All good in their own way.

Fathom Zero Mar 24th, 2009 10:10 PM

Wiinis.

The only thing I needed help with was getting the upper half of the rubber chicken and jesus christ, how the fuck was I supposed to find that?

Microshock Mar 25th, 2009 10:56 PM

Well I just got Gamemine which is a rental service and i am going to get quantum of solace in the mail, i really liked the game on my pc, mostly because i really like the new james bond movies and it's not just a crappy movie-game.

I heard it didnt sell so well

Phoenix Gamma Mar 29th, 2009 10:24 PM

Started up Wind Waker again. It's been a few years since I played it.

It's actually better than I remember. I wasn't too crazy about it, but I'm kinda diggin' it now. Some of the scenes remind me a little of Mother 3.

Guitar Woman Mar 30th, 2009 11:24 AM

GTA4: Lost and Damned.

I think they could at least have made some major upgrades to Liberty City that weren't story missions or like one or two more buildings you can go into. It's pretty much exactly the same as it was in 4; I even found a set of the same secret body armor at this one pier, and the only change to the radio is that some news bulletins were added about biker gang warfare. They might have even been there before, I dunno. Although I love Liberty Rock Radio and there are some great driving songs on it, so that's not really that bad of a deal. It makes sense, too, since Lost and Damned's timeline is apparently parallel to GTA4's.

I like the missions, I guess. My favorite part so far was where you and your bros have to follow the AOD members and pick them off their bikes with sawed off shotguns while cavorting through the streets at top speed because I kept pretending I was in the opening scene of Akira.

executioneer Mar 30th, 2009 12:49 PM

does it still have the annoying relationship simulator bullshit :(

Dimnos Mar 30th, 2009 01:34 PM

NEEKO, CUZIN WHERE ARE DA BEEG AMEERICAN TEETEES

executioneer Mar 30th, 2009 11:28 PM

i never shot a friendly npc so much as i shot roman when i was playin that game

Guitar Woman Mar 31st, 2009 12:53 AM

I'm not too far in, but your biker buddies will all give you guns and shit, and you can call in a free bike from one of them no matter where you are, and and and you never ever have to take them out anywhere, ever. I do like it a lot better than GTA4 already.

I always took Roman up in a helicopter then bailed into the river while he went down and exploded in the city. :(

Kitsa Mar 31st, 2009 10:19 AM

I still suck really badly at drums on Rock Band. To my infinite embarassment, the worst I ever did was on a Ramones song (Teenage Lobotomy- 80% on easy). :(

executioneer Mar 31st, 2009 11:32 AM

the drums are fuckin hard though :( i'm sure i've done worse than 80% on many easy songs, i can't get the hang of the kickdrum

Kitsa Mar 31st, 2009 11:47 AM

The pedal hurts my foot. If I play more than 10 songs, I get shinsplints. I've tried arranging it all sorts of ways and nothing seems to help.

I think the worst I ever did was 60% on easy, on some weird song I'd never heard before where the drums were just all over the fucking place. Usually I pick up on patterns pretty quickly but I couldn't even see the pattern on this one.

If I stick with easy I usually don't do worse than 90-95%. Usually.

Rev. Danno Apr 2nd, 2009 12:05 AM

Final Fantasy 1,2,10 & 12. Just finished 8&9, then I'll play 7. Lego Indy once in a while. Tetris on my mac twice a day at least.

Dimnos Apr 2nd, 2009 04:00 PM

Big McLargehuge Apr 3rd, 2009 12:47 AM

terranigma - shit is super rad and pretty hard.

Phoenix Gamma Apr 3rd, 2009 12:51 AM

Certainly. The story was refreshing compared to the contrived shit found in FF's VII through X (well, excluding IX). The combat got rid of random encounters, meaning the franchise finally got with the times. And it all took place in Ivalice, but way more fleshed out.

The only other FF I've finished was the GBA remake of the original.

Guitar Woman Apr 3rd, 2009 12:54 AM

Maybe. But it was the least retarded game out of the PSX-era FFs.

Either way, I think the entire franchise is pretty crummy.

Zomboid Apr 3rd, 2009 01:11 AM

:rolleyes

Phoenix Gamma Apr 3rd, 2009 01:13 AM

We should argue about this in the "argue about videogames" thread :D

Dimnos Apr 3rd, 2009 10:45 AM

FF9 was the the one with the gunblades? Right? That was totally gay. Not just the gunblade things the whole game. I think I forced myself to play a good bit into it before I just couldnt take anymore. Or no... that was 8... 9 had the little monkey kid? I got about 10 minutes into that before saying forget it. Im not saying 10 was great but it was playable.

executioneer Apr 3rd, 2009 12:09 PM

lol

10,000 Volt Ghost Apr 3rd, 2009 05:28 PM

kahljorn Apr 4th, 2009 01:44 AM

METATRON IS THE GODS RIGHT HAND MAN AND SOME PEOPLE SAY THAT EZEKIEL OR ISIAH WHICHEVER ONE WENT TO HEAVEN IN A FLAMING CHARIOT BECAME METATRON

SO AT THE END OF FF9 YOU ARE FIGHTING AN ARCH ANGEL AND POSSIBLY A BIBLICAL CHARACTER.

fELINE QUEER?

Just downloaded SF II HD Remix for 360 and I can't put it down. I bought it on a whim not knowing that the graphics would be completely redone and I must say it was a great $12 spent.

Phoenix Gamma Apr 5th, 2009 04:43 PM

I caved and got a DSi today along with Rhythm Heaven (my new flashcard is on its way).

I really like the handheld. Nice software, the cameras and mic are fun to mess with, and they give you 1000 DSi points to spend when you take the system online for the first time. Hell yea.

Oh, and the buttons are nice and clicky like on the original, but convex like on the Lite. I really like that :D

Damn. You really muscled through that game :V

I beat all the main games in Rhythm Heaven. Now I'm working on getting medals to unlock the guitar lessons. I love that they added a second tone when you revisit the guitar later.

Probably my favorite music-based game ever. So much content to unlock.
