Otto and his magical pen!

Here's one I finished up yesterday, the proportions and angle turned up all wrong, but I still like the way that it looks.

I also just finished reading Crumb Family Comics and thought that I'd try drawing in a ropey, Charles Crumb style.

My rapidograph pen broke after I finished the businessman, but I got a new one coming in the mail. I'll try drawing some more stuff when it comes in.

Well, it's supposed to be a necktie, but now I see the neckwang too. I must repent now.

I like them! I don't have the patience to get any sort of results like this with a pen.

This time it's a drawing of a homeless man that I used to talk to. He never actually quoted laugh in, but since he was chinese and spoke in broken english, I feel that the line I used is appropriate.

ROOKIE Feb 5th, 2008 12:20 AM

Ooh love your style man. You made all that clothing interesting in the first drawing, even though it's so spacious. Now that's dedication. I think you could get away with the unlikely angles and chalk it up to eccentricity.

MLE Feb 5th, 2008 12:40 AM

What a backhanded compliment. Don't grief anyone on their art in here.

ROOKIE Feb 5th, 2008 04:11 PM

My apologies to Otto if that is in fact how it appears. It was a sincere compliment though not necessarily saturated with glee but then again English is not my first language.

MORE ART!

This time it's a crazy inflatable suit internet fetish man, and the hobo that I nicknamed "mr. cheng."

Fat_Hippo Mar 1st, 2008 05:27 PM

Really cool style you got there, but how long do you need for one of these pictures on average? Drawing all those lines must really take a while, especially in the first picture, doesn't it?

Otto Mar 1st, 2008 06:01 PM

The first picture is the size of a full sketchbook page (11x14 inch) and it took about two days to finish. The other two are really small and only took about 10-15 minutes.

Supafly345 Mar 3rd, 2008 04:47 PM

I hate that last one, but the first two are awesome!

They were quick drawings done over a twenty minute period. Some drop in quality is to be expected.

MLE Mar 13th, 2008 03:11 AM

The imageshack link crashed my computer :x please directly link when you can <3 I like your style, and I think you need to spend more time on your work, so there can be more of the highest caliber work, like the first ones! <3

I've got some watercolor this time.

Leeches sometimes run businesses!

MLE Apr 4th, 2008 12:30 AM

I love the leeches

Fat_Hippo Apr 4th, 2008 01:42 PM

Pretty good, pretty good, though I thought the hand on the leech picture looks a bit sloppy.

Your pictures actually really remind me of the artist of some pictures from sometime around the middle ages/Renaissance, but I can't remember his damn name. The style of depicting shadows through of lots of tightly spaced lines in particular, though that wasn't exclusive to that artist. He's just the one that stick in my mind.

Otto Feb 14th, 2009 10:49 PM

It's been a while, but I've been really busy as of late. I don't know what the reaction's going to be this one, given the comments in the Coraline thread, but I decided to draw Wybie. I really liked the design for his costume.

Otto Feb 19th, 2009 12:14 AM

This one didn't scan very well, because I didn't want to remove it from my sketchbook. I wanted an excuse to draw a pickelhaube and my dog, Otto.

I don't like my new sketchbook, which is 9 x 12, which only really allows for these character design style drawings.

I got the Nightmare on Elm Street collection as a birthday present and decided to draw my take on Freddy Krueger. This is also my first attempt to draw something with a quill pen in a while.
