Steam Groups
Do we have enough people with Steam on here to start a Steam group?
So we can run mad deep? |
Steam is utterly retarded and I never use it because it's like a laggy torrent client that costs money and takes up a retarded amount of disc space and is necessary to run Half Life 2, which my computer can't handle very well anyway.
That said, I'll join if other people will! My account is ProfessorSaucy! |
What the hell are you on?
The fastest downloads I've ever had on the internet have been from Steam. My Steam folder is 8.84 gigs, 8.80+ of which are games. It uses about 10 megs of system memory. And it has all the capabilities of Live - including achievements - and I can download the games I've bought any time I want without having to back it up to one of my 9 million discs and lose it promptly thereafter. And they just knocked the price of the Orange Box down to $37. I will add you, I'm Mr. Payback (mrpayback). |
I am on a RAGE
I think I've used Steam one time since I installed it, and I didn't like it one bit! THIS MAY CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE BUT I HIGHLY DOUBT IT |
SO FAR THE ONLY THING I AM CONVINCED OF IS HOW I CAN ADD GAMES TO MY STEAM LIST AND IT CAN PLAY THEM FROM THERE INSTEAD OF CLICKING THE SHORTCUT
REAL USEFUL, I TELL YA |
you're supposed to buy games from steam, you nitwit
|
also since schimid wanted to see if his computer could run the orange box, I just changed my password and now he can log on as me from his computer, download the orange box, and run all the games from there!
|
what's the advantage of having a steam group anyways
|
I have no idea.
But also you can run multiple steam accounts at the same time (in single player anyway) so you and your buddies can share all the games you buy as long as you don't play multi ;o |

It's PRETTY SWEET how they have all their games at ridiculous price cuts for the holidays, but I don't see anything I want that I don't already have :< Is SiN any good Also, why the fuck is Peggle Extreme 50 dollars |
Sin episodes is pretty good, yeah.
|
Because it's extreme.
|
Chojin, do you have Garry's Mod?
|
i do not!
But so far I dislike half life 2 for the same reasons I dislike bioshock ;< which is because it sucks |
Ok, now you're just being silly.
Mobility is still slippery like in HL1 and the AI is stupid, but it's not a bad game by any feasible standards. IF YOU ARE UNSATISFIED CONSIDER TURNING THE GRAVITY DOWN TO ENABLE LOCOMOTION JUMPING |
Ok, Steam is actually kind of cool in how I can put it on a ridiculoulsy superior computer (my mom's :() and use it to download and play all my games from there, as opposed to on my own machine in 640x480 LAG-O-VISION with all HL2's pretty visual effects turned off.
IT MIGHT BE 7 FUCKING HOURS BEFORE THAT HAPPENS BUT YOU KNOW |
Ok so if guitar woman is ready to shut up now...
Has anyone set up a group? I just downloaded the new version of Zombie Panic Source yesterday. It's really fun despite the somewhat sluggish survivor movement. Should be a good stop-gap until Left for Dead is released. |

I couldn't figure out how to make a group. It says 'Create and view groups here!' and then you can only view groups on the link you click. So feel free to make the group, Metal.
And actually more accurately my problems with HL2 are the problems I have with HL, which is that most of the levels just feel like filler and there's tons of awkward platforming to be done. We called Half-Life 1 "Chutes and ladders" back when my CREW was still in the state and this game really isn't any different. The gravity gun is really nothing special so I don't understand why everyone was creaming their jeans over it. The weapons feel the same way they did in HL1 which is to say that all of them except for the 6-shooter feel dinky and have ridiculous sound effects. I also seem to spend my time in the game perpetually at 5 health, which again, was the same case in HL1. And the graphics aren't great and the environments are the most drab and boring things ever. And they still haven't really explained what the fuck is going on and how it relates in any way to HL1 after I played the game for 3-4 hours. I did like driving the little boat around, and felt that for as fun as that was they had juuuust enough milking of that feature going on to not make me sick of it. Then I went into ravenclaw or siltherin or whatever where all the zombies are and got back into the game's 53rd standard rooftop ledge jumping puzzle and got too bored to continue. Portal is great, though! And TF2 is a lot of fun. |
Here is the URL for the group:
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/iMock It's by invite only at the moment, do we want it public? I'll add you as an admin when you join Chojin. |
Guitar woman, no player name of "ProfessorSaucy" exists.
Chojin, I've sent you an invite. |
I'd say keep it private for now; If we can't get enough people from the forums to join then we can open it up :o
|
It says I have no pending invites?
Also GW's tag does work, I have him added |
nvrmind,
I've invited you both. Chojin, I don't think I can make you an admin, but I've promoted you to officer and given officers admin privileges so it shouldn't make much difference. |
Playing a bit more HL2 today, I finally started having fun when I got bumrushed in ravenholm and foudn a big whirly propeller that had broken off a machine, then I took the gravity gun and sent it whirling through twelve or so bad guys.
And then I got pissed again when I tried no less than 6 times to jump onto a roof, only I couldn't because I had to run on a decline and you bounce when you do that and can't jump for some reason and I don't know it was gay ;< |
No Half Life game ever explains the story and I don't understand why everyone thinks it's well written.
Valve just expects you to INFER what's going on without telling you anything, which is retarded. Anyway, my synopsis is this: The Combine are a race of humanoid aliens who defeated and enslaved humanity in a war that lasted only 7 hours, aptly named the 7 Hours War, and Dr. Breen who was the administrator back at Black Mesa (but was never mentioned in any of the previous games!) is the head of City 17 for some reason, and somehow the Vortigaunt aren't the badguys now and have come over to our world from Xen even though you cut the route between the two off in the first game. Also, the pistol isn't weak. If anything, it's ridiculously overpowered and one of the more useful weapons in the game. If you aren't having fun now I hear it gets better once you start open rebellion against the Combine with your homeboys, so mabye hold out for that? |
The thing with half-life 2 is that while the overall story may be unremarkable the way it is conveyed to the player though the character interaction is extremely good. For example you might overhear the NPCs having conversations which reveal new things about the story or learn things through the set pieces with the main characters. All of which are very well 'acted'.
If you compare it to other high profile FPS titles it really doesn't get much better than HL2. |
I just got the game up and running on my mom's PC, Chojin, and after I got a gun everything became shits and giggles. I don't know what your problem is, mabye you should stop looking for the flaws in the games you play and try to enjoy life!
|
I wasn't trying to hate it. Honestly, I was hoping to like it because I love portal and have HL2 episodes one and two anyway. My standards are actually really low, I just hate it when games bore me.
I'm driving around a buggy that controls about 1000x worse than the speedboat for some reason, I'll let you know how that goes. Oh, also, MM, I agree and really like the character interaction. Especially the scene where you first get the gravity gun and play catch with the dog, that was cute. And then it was all over and I was back to doing prince of persia jumps in first person along rooftops. Another thing that really bothers me about this game is that it feels like a very intricate mod, like the game mechanics aren't supposed to be there. What I mean by that is when you're driving something or picking up objects, you never see your HANDS or anything operate them, they just magically operate on their own. Throwing barrels and stuff is especially queer because you just hover them in front of your face instead of like, hoisting it over your head or something. It really ruins the immersion. And I didn't say the pistol was weak, GW, just that it FEELS weak. It has a hit area the size of a grain of rice and makes the most pathetic 'piff' noise when it fires. The shotgun seems underpowered, though. |
I hate the vehicles with a passion.
By the way, Gordon Freemon is telekinetic. |
I love the sound the pistol makes for some reason
The POK POK POK POK BEEEEEEEEEEP when you kill a Combine soldier is always intensely satisfying to me :< But yeah, the shotgun is a piece of shit. |
Also, one thing nobody ever talks about is the great soundtrack the game has. I always get COMPLETLEY PUMPED when one of the tracks starts playing.
I don't even like techno that much! |

Which... would be a Live thing, right?
|
Yeah, it's all part of the Live thing. What I was telling you was, "It's not Steam. It's just Windows."
By the way Chong, do you have the Orange Box for the PC or Xbox 360? I'd love to play you in Team Fortress 2. |
Okay, but Steam achievements have nothing to do with Windows.
|
YES DAMNIT.
Wait wait wait a second. I believe that if you had Windows Live (silver or otherwise) the gamerscore and achievements would get added to your total. Can you get me a screenshot of the achievements section in Steam? |
I have the PC orange box.
And again, no, Windows Live and PlaysForSure and all that bullshit is part of Vista, which I don't use. |
Damn. Cool beans, anyway.
|
I don't think Steam itself tracks achievements, it's just a feature in some steam games.
I don't know. I know it's not tied into Live, though. |
It is. Trust me. Please. Can we get someone else that is not me to verify this?
If it's not, than everything I've ever understood about Window's Live is wrong. Can you create a Windows Live Silver account, Chojin, and test it out? |
yeah, only certain Steam games have achievements.
|
I would like a webpage or something from Microsoft or Valve to verify that.
And I know not all Steam games have achievements, that wasn't the point. |
ASKJFDASJFDASJDGADSGLKJHFDSALKJHFDSA
I don't see why Steam would be tied in with Live, that's stupid I WILL CHECK ANYWAY SIT TIGHT |
Like, games you can get in the store.
Oh, try Bioshock. Also, I bet the achievements are the same in both. Quote:
|
My point is that Steam isn't tied in with Live, that certain Steam games just have achievements. And if those games also show up on the 360, it'd make sense that the developers would make the achievements the same.
|
Like Kane and Lynch, Bioshock, whatever. Someone test this or I will send a letter to Gabe Newell personally.
|
I have no idea what the fuck is going on
See this is why I don't like steam why the fuck does it have to be so confusing |
fuck you guys
|
I just sent this to Mr. Newell's public email address:
Code:
Dear Mr. Newell, |
why is this somewhat important to you?
Also, Gabe Newell already posts on this forum as ZeldasBiggestFan, so you could have just PMed him. |
Why do we have only three people in the group?
Chojin, as admin I demand you force everyone on the forum to join. That way I can get the the "play with 8 friends" achievement in TF2, and I'm sure everyone secretly desires to enhace my TF2 profile. :imock |
They have to play a whole game for that achievement, though, SO NO QUITTERS. >:
My name thingy is Raggamofyn. |
Somethings not working properly and I can't seem to add you to the group. Chojin or GW, can you try?
|
Hmmm. I'll go find my "Unique Steam ID" then.
EDIT: STEAM_0:1:15100508 I dunno what any of that means, but whatever. |
It's OK you should have an invite now. I just had to add you as a friend first, for some reason.
|
I got steam with the orange box and then i got Garry's Mod 10 which is quite awesome.
|
Download the beta for the Orange Box stuff. Putting together things from Half Life 2 and Team Fortress 2 is fun.

is this thing still going
can i get in on it |
I have steam too (but only with audio surf and GTA:san andreas) my computer cant handle TF2 :(
I would join but Im not adding anyone with the name saucy |
If you guys add me as a friend I can invite you into the group :
http://steamcommunity.com/id/MMilitia/ Go to my profile page and there is a link to add me as a friend. Or you can just put my user name into the "add friend" box within steam. Chojin also has mod powers so he can add you also. |
|
my steam account name is mattyhar. I play TF2 all the time.
|
add me! bigtimecow
i only have hl2, whatever extras come with it (deathmatch and something else), and garry's mod. i didn't read this entire thread, so i don't know if anyone has garry's mod, but it would be nice to build couch-cars with some online friends :> |
I've found bigtimecow and sent an invite but I couldn't find mattyhar. Matt if you post a link to your profile page I can add you.
Gadzooks if you tell me your steam name I will try and invite you too, but the search thing in Steam sucks for some reason. This is far more complicated than it should be. How would we all feel about opening up the group to be public? |
I guess we could try it and then kick everyone out if it starts getting out of hand?
|
I wanna get steam, but noooo we had to get a crappy, useless, shit for brains MAC.

Okay I've made the group public but also promoted all forum regulars to officer status so we're set apart from any strangers (:eek) that join as a result of the group being public.
Permissions are not full but you can kick people from the group/chat, post announcements and create events. If anyone is seen to be abusing these things I'll demote them to a regular member. |
:(
Doesn't anyone care about CSS anymore? |
I do, I think they're great. Alcohol is my favourite track. Lovefox is cute, but way to crazy. Which one do you prefer?
|
if all of this was free, i'd be alot more inclined to join the fun ;<
|
well steam itself doesnt cost anything, and there are free games you can d/l on it
just you know probly not any multiplayer ones |
haha, gay. i guess i'll cough up some money one day ;<
|
a little question what game companies are affiliated with steam?
|
all of them
|
Epic, id, Eidos, 2K Games, Activision, Rockstar, and quite a few others as well as small-time indies and one-hit wonders.
|
I bought Assassin's Creed from Steam and I am a bit disappointed.
See, I buy from Steam because of their benefits, always on one account, no discs, steam community. But steam community doesn't quite work in this game. It doesn't show that you're playing it and it doesnt show it on your steam id page. |
Well at least y'aren't disappointed with the game itself.
|
just joined the group, let the gaming commence!!!
