I-Mockery Needs Volunteer Weeklies Writers for Halloween Season!

Once again, we're looking to bring in some volunteers to help out with the Weeklies ( http://www.i-mockery.com/weeklies ) section of the site each week. This time it's for the next two months during our big Halloween season. All reviews would have to be related to Halloween / Horror in some way. You can review horror movies, horror games, creepy comics, and Halloween albums - we just need to be able to tie it in with the general theme of the season.

We're looking for additional writers to cover those extra Weekly spots. You'll get to see your work featured on the homepage of I-Mockery and receive feedback from bajillions (ie: tens) of fans! Once the Halloween season is all done, we may even send you some free merchandise as an extra thank you for helping us out.

Weeklies are usually 3 - 6 paragraphs in length and shouldn't take you too long to write, so once assigned, we'd expect you to be able to turn onein within 24 hours or so. If you're interested, please reply to this thread (no PMs please) and we'll be in touch real soon. Please mention what categories you would like to write in most (video games, movies, comics, music).

Thanks to all of you who offer to help out during our annual Two Months of Halloween! :picklehat

Fathom Zero Aug 29th, 2010 04:51 PM

Oh man, lemme think about this. I totally have a couple games in mind.

PS you should totally be Stu Benedict this Halloween if you haven't yet. I was watching my Pete & Pete DVDs the other night. The resemblance is uncanny, dude.

The Leader Aug 29th, 2010 05:10 PM

I can do comics or movies. :(

Kitsa Aug 29th, 2010 05:53 PM

If you need any reviews of weird and unique halloween places like Foy's, I'd be glad to do that. I need an excuse to get back there.

Zomboid Aug 29th, 2010 08:34 PM

I can do it for pretty much anything but music.

King Hadas Aug 29th, 2010 11:30 PM

Is this how you did it last time? And when you say you'll get in touch do you mean by E-mail or PM?

I can write video game reviews.

darkvare Aug 29th, 2010 11:44 PM

can i do a picture gallery of the market that blocks streets near my house like you do with thosse places?

Looking for volunteers to do reviews for the Weeklies section, but I did enjoy those photos you took of Foy's 'n what not, so I may be able to make a blog post about 'em. Send me a PM with some details about the places you're thinking of. Thankee!

Yep, same as last time. Just sent you a PM with the details. Basically need 'em by Tuesday at the latest since I'm starting up Halloween season at the start o' September as always.

As I told Kitsa, I'm looking for volunteers to do reviews for the Weeklies section. That aside, send me a PM with some details on this market you're talking about and I may be able to do a blog post about it in the coming months if it's something Halloween related.

Grislygus Aug 30th, 2010 02:08 AM

I'm all about obscure horror shit, I could do several reviews for anything except comics

Lemme know if you wanna do some Halloween game reviews and I'll PM you the info. As for Stu Benedict, not a bad costume idea at all, but without a school bus to drive it just wouldn't feel complete. Still not sure what I feel like dressing as yet this year, but I may end up wanting to make something. It really just depends on how much free time I have in the coming months.

Glad to hear it man, just sent ya a PM. Thankee!

10,000 Volt Ghost Aug 30th, 2010 09:56 AM

I'd like to write about movies. Maybe music.

Tanuki Aug 30th, 2010 10:52 AM

Comics, games, movies. Preferably games or comics, since I typically don't have the attention span to watch a whole movie and just sit there.

BatmanJohnson Aug 31st, 2010 11:30 AM

Comics movies please! Games if need be.

Pentegarn Aug 31st, 2010 06:16 PM

What happened to us just doing weeklies in general?

Kitsa Aug 31st, 2010 06:58 PM

Also, I'm big into J-horror so any of those (like the Sick Nurses one I did years ago, that could be cleaned up) I could do. I have an exhaustive familiarity with the Ju-on series.

Mockery Sep 1st, 2010 12:14 AM

Thanks for volunteering guys! Filled all the slots for this week, but I'll be sending PMs the rest of you who volunteered about doing Weeklies in subsequent weeks, so if you're interested in writing, make sure you speak up in this thread.

I got real busy honestly and let them slide a bit in recent months. With Max all but gone and Proto hardly being around, that left two or more open slots every week. No excuse though, I definitely should've filled those slots with volunteers, but other site work and distractions got in my way. Hopefully we can get a regular schedule of volunteers doing them again so we have new ones every week from now on, even after Halloween season.

Durin Sep 1st, 2010 01:03 AM

If Castlevania games are appropriate enough for the season, I could do a weekly review on some of them (I know Protoclown gave a review of the original, but maybe I could do maybe one of the DS/GBA ones. Or the second game in the series.

Sadly that's the only gaming thing that I feel is Halloweenish/horrifying enough as far as video games go that I also feel I could do a good job on. (And as far as board games go, I'd be happy to give a decent review for Arkham Horror, but I'm pretty sure this is video game exclusive here).

Edit: Post Halloween if you still need volunteers for games I could do that.

I wouldn't be able to do comics or music, and I've only seen a few Halloween/horror movies (but I do enjoy them, just don't own them). Sorry about the small number of things I could write about, but thankee for looking at this.

Supafly345 Sep 1st, 2010 03:57 AM

Do we get paid?

Yeah, Castlevania games are always aok to review as long as it's one that hasn't already been covered. I'll get in touch with ya sometime in the next month or two about reviewing one I'm sure.

Nope, it's simply a volunteer thing.

I have little to no stuff in the chamber that is Halloween related, but if you still need people in the rotation for after I have all sorts of reviewable things for regular weeklies.

Captain Seamus Sep 1st, 2010 03:09 PM

I could do music or movies, I have some old Halloween CDs lying around.

dextire Sep 1st, 2010 06:55 PM

I'd be happy to help. Movies and music please.

Pentegarn Sep 2nd, 2010 06:07 AM

^^^

You need to post more, you showed up at xmas, made with the funny post, then you disappeared.

Post more funny year round

Captain Seamus Sep 2nd, 2010 02:21 PM

Is that a requirement or a suggestion?

King Hadas Sep 2nd, 2010 07:15 PM

I can do movie reviews as well.

Yeah, sorry about that. Summers are really busy for me.
And hospitals with no public internet suck worse than... uh... hospitals that do. :)

So I'll post more (no guarantee on the funny part) and you finally start unpacking those boxes that you keep saying you "WILL" unpack.

Nick Sep 3rd, 2010 12:52 AM

Me please! You never let me have that guest spot last time I put in for it. >:v

Anything but music, unless you want two months of Ramones reviews.

I unpacked at least 2 boxes since x-mas time

Babs Sep 3rd, 2010 02:28 PM

I wouldn't mind doing some more reviews say for music or movies.

Mockery Sep 3rd, 2010 05:46 PM

Just sent out four PMs for next week's batch of reviews. If I didn't get to you this time, I'll get to you soon enough. Just going through these in the order the volunteer notes were posted and based on what selections you guys made.

Thanks again to all of you who've already offered to help! :picklehat

I'd like to review a movie, post-Halloween if possible. :)

Every week a 5 pickle review.

Unless I review Acid Eaters.

Shadowdancer21b Sep 4th, 2010 07:42 PM

I'm in!

You can count me in! I've got Reviews for Manos: the Hands of Fate, Silent Horror ( a Silent Hill Parody by X-Strike Studios), and I'm working on a review of Resident Horror. I plan to review Addams Family Values, the only good Addams Family video game. Also, I have a review for the Book of the Dead, an anthology of short stories about-you-guessed it, the walking dead, and I will also review the commentary track for Stay Alive, the craptastic horror-game movie!

For the afore-mentioned already completed reveiws and much much more, please look me up at www.overlordnetwork.com

Kitsa Sep 4th, 2010 08:38 PM

Acid Eaters had Substitute, which I thought was an okay cover :musicforum

Anyway.

Nick Sep 4th, 2010 10:01 PM

Don't get me wrong it was good music. It just wasn't their music. :(

:musicforum

Kitsa Sep 5th, 2010 12:54 AM

Nick Sep 5th, 2010 12:59 AM

Mockery Sep 12th, 2010 10:35 AM

Still working my way down the list for each category. I just sent out four PMs for next week's batch of reviews. If you haven't already volunteered, please let me know what categories of Weeklies you'd like to do. Still plenty o' time left in the Halloween season for everybody to get a review or two in.

The Leader Sep 12th, 2010 05:38 PM

I can do another for comics or movies if you run out of people. :(

Kitsa Sep 12th, 2010 08:50 PM

I will send the second batch of pics probably after oct 1 if you're cool with that, that's when most of the places open.

Mockery Sep 12th, 2010 11:59 PM

Absolutely :picklehat

Mockery Sep 17th, 2010 03:50 AM

Ok, I just sent out four PMs for next week's batch of reviews. If you have more categories you'd like to volunteer for, please let us know. Trying to get as many of you involved with this section of the site as possible since this is what we always hoped to be able to do with it. Thankee!

HOORAY FOR BACKPEDALING

Mockery Sep 22nd, 2010 02:29 AM

So, two of our volunteers dropped the ball this week and I'm in need of a volunteer writer for the following sections:

-1 review for the Weekly Games section.

-1 review for the Weekly Music section.

Any takers? Please lemme know asap. Fast turn-around time would be appreciated so we can get these up in a jiffy. Mmmm... jiffy.

Shadowdancer21b Sep 22nd, 2010 02:06 PM

I'll do another game if you'll have me.

dextire Sep 22nd, 2010 10:21 PM

I could handle the music review.

Mockery Sep 23rd, 2010 02:16 AM

Gracias!

Nick Sep 23rd, 2010 11:22 AM

I'd be more than happy to lend a review anytime, rog. :P

Mockery Sep 26th, 2010 07:45 PM

Requests for volunteers for this coming week have been sent out, so be sure to check your inboxes here on the forum in case you're one of those four. Thanks for the continued Weeklies submissions all!

Skulhedface Sep 27th, 2010 12:35 PM

Wish I'd caught this sooner. If a spot suddenly opens up, I'll do it.

Shadowdancer21b Sep 27th, 2010 01:00 PM

I'm good to help again. I really want to review "The book of the dead" and the Misfits album "Famous Monsters".

Kitsa Sep 27th, 2010 03:14 PM

Mine was done with a screaming baby in the background so take that into account :(

We'll have open slots every week, just tell me which sections you can do Weeklies reviews for (unless you're cool with doing a review in any of the sections).

Skulhedface Oct 2nd, 2010 02:08 AM

Anything, really.

Supafly345 Oct 2nd, 2010 03:09 AM

Awesome, a decent paper from skulhedface would make up for his absence.

The Nun Eater Oct 4th, 2010 11:59 PM

I'm quite new to the boards but I have a spectacular knowledge of horror games and movies (new and old) and would be more than willing to help you guys out in any way needed.

Mockery Oct 5th, 2010 03:31 AM

Cool, sent out some volunteer requests via PM to you guys. Thanks for the continued help with the Weeklies!

Pandajuice Oct 5th, 2010 07:40 AM

I can do a weekly movie review anytime you need one Rog, even on short notice if someone else drops the ball. I have a few horror movies in mind that I've been meaning to watch and have never been featured on the site and this is a great excuse to do both. I also have an extensive freelance internet writing resume so I'm as dependable as there is and would love to contribute to the site.

Aries Oct 5th, 2010 12:54 PM

Due to my busy schedule I can't guarantee having something ready with 24 hours notice. So...I just sent you an album review which you can use whenever you need it.

malebolgia2163 Oct 6th, 2010 01:33 AM

I'd be able to do some reviews. I can really do any of the four (music, movie, game or comic) but music is more of my thing. I used to write cd reviews in university that would get printed in the paper and posted on the website- an example is down below.

I've got a great idea of a cd I can review for the Halloween season!

http://mediumonline.ca/2009/01/26/an...immunity-zone/

Kitsa Oct 7th, 2010 11:52 AM

Now that I know what you want, I can crank them out more quickly. If you're in a pinch for a movie review, let me know...my brother and I have a treasure trove of crappy, quirky 80s and 90s horror films.

Thanos Oct 7th, 2010 07:42 PM

I'd be happy to assist you if needed RoG. I can cover any topic, but would best be suited for films and comics.

Ozzie Oct 9th, 2010 02:56 AM

I'd be happy to do some writing. Video game reviews are my strong suit, but I could undoubtedly fill in on anything you need. I have a ridiculous zombie movie in mind that I don't think has been mentioned yet.

Shadowdancer21b Oct 10th, 2010 02:06 AM

I've got a movie review a-cookin', and it's not from X-Strike.

Mockery Oct 11th, 2010 05:34 PM

Weeklies volunteer requests for the latest batch have been sent out. Thanks again to all you new volunteers who keep offering to help out! :halloween

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 16th, 2010 04:15 PM

I've got a movie I'd like to review.

Nick Oct 16th, 2010 11:03 PM

I've got a review I'd like to movie.

Mockery Oct 18th, 2010 06:04 PM

Volunteer requests for this coming week have been sent out, so check your inboxes here on the forum in case you're one of those four. Thankee! :halloween :halloween2

Shadowdancer21b Oct 18th, 2010 11:06 PM

Thankee sai. Long days and pleasant nights to you.

Mister Tea Oct 22nd, 2010 05:01 PM

I'd like to punch up a review for the Horrorsoft PC game Waxworks. It's an oldschool first-person graphic adventure game with a heavy emphasis on "graphic," and it's one of the few legitimately scary games of its sort, so it should be right up the fanbase's alley. No one who claims to love horror games should remain in the dark about this underrated gem. May I, purty please?

Mockery Oct 25th, 2010 02:29 PM

Hey guys, we need a volunteer to do a Halloween / horror related Music review for the Weeklies section. Can anybody do one and have it ready by the end of tonight? If so, lemme know and I'll PM you with instructions.

Thankee! :picklehat :halloween

dextire Oct 25th, 2010 07:01 PM

I'd be happy to do it. :halloween2

Shadowdancer21b Oct 25th, 2010 09:52 PM

Dextire was first, but I could do it too.
