Donkey Kong Country

God DAMN this game's music is good.

Krythor Jun 2nd, 2004 05:52 PM

Yeah. :(

The underwater level and the first jungle level are the two that stick out in my mind. Christ, the Christmas I got that was the best ever. Did anybody else get that shitty video tour of Rare with it?

Emu Jun 2nd, 2004 06:42 PM

I got it. I almost shit my pants. :(

James Jun 2nd, 2004 06:51 PM

DKC was one of the best series ever, and this is coming from someone who doesn't really like platformers. Damn shame there's nothing in sight for the future, unless you count Jungle Beat or whatever faggy thing it is. :/

eggyolk Jun 2nd, 2004 07:46 PM

I'm not a fan of DKC3, but the first and second one were DELICIOUS!!

Perndog Jun 2nd, 2004 09:02 PM

Ahem.

ProfessorCool Jun 2nd, 2004 09:47 PM

Eh, it was a fun game for one go around. Nothing beats the classic arcade though.

Skulhedface Jun 2nd, 2004 09:54 PM

I remember DKC being a franchise I absolutely loved.

Course, my mom was dating this rich guy at the time it came out... and by rich I mean "One of the walls in his living room is a friggin' TV!" Playing DKC on a HUGE TV was just... mind blowing.

I suppose it was one of those times my mom being a slut paid off :)

Perndog Jun 2nd, 2004 09:58 PM

The other time being when your girlfriend kicked you out and you had to move back home for a while, right? ;)

EverythingWillSuck Jun 2nd, 2004 11:21 PM

I loved the second game. Can't wait for the GBA version so I can take it portable. I just hope they don't make new crappy music or something :(

James Jun 2nd, 2004 11:24 PM

Yes, let's pay $50 for the same game we bought years ago, just so we can play it for a week in 10-minute increments while you wait for a bus. :rolleyes

Skulhedface Jun 2nd, 2004 11:31 PM

[eternal optimist] It'll only be $30, not $50 [/optimist]

I find the only games I buy for GBA are originals (Metroid Fusion/Zero Mission, Mario Vs. Donkey Kong, etc.).

I don't even own a GBA. I do, however, have the Game Boy Player for Gamecube. *shrugs*

I hate to change the subject, but the song "Life In The Mines" is one of the best video game songs ever. I don't know where exactly it plays, but I heard it on the sound dump.

pjalne Jun 3rd, 2004 08:45 AM

Life in the Mines is awesome. I got one of those SNES music players about a month ago, and the DKC music was top priority when I set out to download stuff to play on it. Then I felt like a fag for listening to SNES music on my computer, but only for a short while.

Also, I'm playing the DKC games these days when taking a break from studying for my exams. I just got a hardcore gamepad and a card with tv-out for my computer, so I can play emu games on the tv. :rock

Mockery Jun 3rd, 2004 09:58 AM

Can someone upload this song so I can listen to it? I need some new music here at work anyway.

ArrowX Jun 3rd, 2004 01:12 PM

That song's great I can't remember it :(

The only one I can remember lots was 3 because My aunt bought it from a bargain bin at some store and sait it looksed better than the other ones >:

James Jun 3rd, 2004 01:21 PM

DKC probably had some of the best music for an SNES game. The quality was pretty much revolutionary. You would be used to hearing bleeps and bloops of a midi-style music track, but DKC had CD-quality music that sounded like actual instruments. Hell, I don't even think any Nintendo-made game to date has had better music.

The final boss battle had some good music.

Nerd Jun 3rd, 2004 04:18 PM

Gamespy doesn't like it.

Schimid Jun 3rd, 2004 11:37 PM

And I don't like Gamespy. >:

Rongi Jun 3rd, 2004 11:43 PM

People actually value gamespy's opinions? How very sad...

ProfessorCool Jun 3rd, 2004 11:45 PM

They also said Battletoads was overrated, and whined about it being a TMNT Rip-off.

Rongi Jun 3rd, 2004 11:47 PM

What a bunch of pretencious snots.

eggyolk Jun 4th, 2004 02:03 AM

That life in the mines was first played during the level where you first met the frog. Another favorite is the level with the Mine Carts. :eek

Schimid Jun 4th, 2004 02:14 AM

I don't know why I like the song so much. It's just so kinda melancholy and hopeful at the same time. I get a vision of a Tonberry-type guy living in a cave and all he knows are the white bright lights and he's content because he doesn't know life outside it and it's kinda an anthem for him or something. I don't know.

If Tonberry posts in this thread I'll be pissed :(

P.S. ice cave chant is good too
