Masters of saving money at the grocery store.

We saved a total of $35 at the grocery store today, which is more than we even spent. We are the grocery store masters.

Rebates? Coupons? LOOSE CHANGE?

Skulhedface Mar 5th, 2003 07:03 PM

RoG... let me in on your secret.

Sometimes my grocery bills and my rent payments start clashing in my bank account :(

no coupons no rebates

first - live in the south
second - find a grocery store that has buy one get 2 FREE and buy one get one FREE deals

Yeah, I'm not sure if Winn Dixie's are all over the nation or what. But they have the best friggin deals and they're a 5 minute walk from our place.

winn dixie is very much a southern thing, that and piggly wiggly, i think. those are the BEST places to shop, you get things almost for free.

Skulhedface Mar 5th, 2003 08:40 PM

Yea RoG, we have Winn Dixies too. Do you have one of those Winn-Dixie cards? They ALWAYS ask for those here, and it's my understanding that it does take a big (but not hugely significant) chunk out of the total. Maybe I should get one if it doesn't cost much.

Anonymous Mar 5th, 2003 08:47 PM

the cards are free
and yeah you dont get the deal unless you have one

Skulhedface Mar 5th, 2003 11:02 PM

You still have to apply for them, don't you? I guess a little time filling out a piece of paper would be worth saving assloads of money though.

Mockery Mar 6th, 2003 01:29 AM

They give you the card there on the spot. Filling out the form takes a whopping 30 seconds. Same goes for cards from most grocery stores...

I lost my card in my dog's ass. Don't ask how it got there.

sadie Mar 10th, 2003 08:50 AM

jesus, skullboy, i got the cards. and if you're lazier than me, you must be dead fo' shizzle.

i used to clip coupons and check the circulars. (and even then, i don't think i saved that much ever, guys.) now, i just zone in on the sales stickers on the store aisles.

Living in the south DOES help. Especially on gas prices. I was in Pennsylvania for 4 months and the gas prices were 1.50 a gallon on average, and when I got back here, roughly one day later, gas was down to .85 cents a gallon!

Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, but the only "Buy One, Get One Free" deals I found at Winn-Dixie yesterday all involve cigarettes, particularly Marlboros, Camels and Dorals. I did however find a motherlode of "Buy One, Get One Half Off Deals".

And Sadie, I'm lazy when I don't have to work. I put all my energy into that. But I'm happy to say that since I made that last post, I am now a card carrying member of the "Save Money At Winn Dixie" club.

What do you guys think about shopping at Wal-Mart though? They have a Super Wal-Mart across the street, the prices ARE cheap, but then again, this IS Wal-Mart...

Cap'n Crunch Mar 10th, 2003 06:59 PM

I don't have any Winn Dixie's around here. But there is a store called Pathmark near Blockbuster. There is also a cheap ass store that imports shittly goods and batteries from China. Everything there falls apart.
