Metal bands with female singers

I am a big fan of metal, and I'm not talking about the crap on the radio. Metallica, Nickleback, Alter Bridge, Foo Fighters, and all the other crappy, poppy bands can burn in hell. I'm talking Cradle of Filth, Fear Factory, Dissection, Killswitch Engage, Cannibal Corpse, and others of that sort.

I particularly like metal bands with female singers. I fucking love Lacuna Coil, The Third and the Mortal, The Gathering, Nightwish, and even Evanescence. There's something about a melodic (as opposed to dark and gravelly) voice with metal accompaniment. Any suggestions for other metal bands with female singers or comments on the above mentioned bands?

Helm Sep 20th, 2004 06:51 PM

Am I the only one that finds Cradle of Filth to be awesomely boring?

Anyway, yeah, since you like extreme metal also, try Crisis too. Female vocalist... but it doesn't really show much.

Kittie :lol

But seriously, maybe check out Drain STH, if you can. They broke up a couple years ago, so you only have two albums to choose from.

There was also this girl who I saw a music video for YEARS ago, called Betty Moon. The song was called Revenge, I think. I NEVER could find anything about this group/person, but the song wasn't too bad.

I would have thought of that as a list of poppy metal bands :/
But Bloodshoteye is a metalcore band with a chick that does really good deep growls, but thats the only thing I really like about the band myself.

Hammers of Misfortune! :love

Dixie Sep 21st, 2004 12:16 PM

hammers are awesome. unfortunately the few decent bands with chicks in them are overlooked b/c people are too focused on the image of crap like kittie, otep, nightwish, and all that other gay soulless crap.

liquidstatik Sep 21st, 2004 12:27 PM

I like Lacuna Coil. :o

Lacuna coil epitomize what 'souless' is about. Fear Factory never made a good album, but there's some killer production on some of them. Dissection are awesome. Killswitch Engage are ok for what they are, I guess. Couldn't listen to them for more than 30 minutes. Cannibal Corpse stopped being interesting after Eaten Back to Life.

Ninjavenom Sep 21st, 2004 08:54 PM

Atrox for doomy femmy goodness. But what you really want is Confessor, where you will swear that the singer's a chick. It will also be one of the best friggin' bands you will ever hear.

Helm Sep 21st, 2004 09:36 PM

man stop pushing confessor to people here 'cause first of all they're ill-equipped to get it (when the closest point of reference is cannibal corpse and fear factory), and then because they'll come back here being all 'confessor sukckcs!!1' and I can't stand that >: Confessor are an aquired taste and I don't expect people not into technical metal and depressing doom to care for them at all.

Dark Tranquillity, on one of their albums, has a female vocalist back-up for a few songs. That won't do for the long term though...

I heard this wonderful band the other day, with a female lead singer and I coulda sworn she was male...nope. All I remember about it was that she had replaced their original singer who had busted his cords or something. I'll have to find it and report back.

Ninjavenom Sep 21st, 2004 09:52 PM

I make folks start with the hard shit, yo. Maybe i should recommend Maudlin next? ;)

Dissection is poppy? Fine. How about Poison the Well or Suffocation?

Whatever. Bite me.

Helm Sep 23rd, 2004 12:41 AM

I never expected to see Poison the fucking Well mentioned in the same breath as Suffocation. Faggy third-rate metalcore mentioned with the fathers of brutal death metal? Heresy >:

And ninja, if someone starts listening to metal with Maudlin of the Well, then he's just been set up for constant dissapointement from there and on.

Carnivore Sep 24th, 2004 09:42 AM

Forgive me. I meant in no way to imply parity between the two.

deriving away from this lame topic... helm, have you heard of pyaemia? If you havent you should check them and decrepit birth out. Whats with saying that cannibal corpse got boring after eaten back to life, if anything thats their worst album.

Rongi Sep 24th, 2004 07:14 PM

i'm glad chris barne left. his voice flat out sucked.

and gore obsessed was awesome

Pyorrhea Sep 24th, 2004 07:20 PM

the wretched spawn is good too. in fact, i think theyve progressed alot since their first album... but totm is still my favorite.

Just because your violent homosexual tendencies prevent you from enjoying a band with a gorgeous female lead singer with an angelic voice doesn't mean you need to categorize the subject as lame.

Rongi Sep 24th, 2004 08:22 PM

tsunami bomb had a female singer. they arent metal though, but they're pretty good
