Being an Intern sucks.

3 days of logging video. 3 days sitting in a room, watching video after video with no sound. 3 days of recording the time code for each video's section of B-Roll. Working from 9 to 1, with only a few breaks. God, why can't I be paid? Even if the college supplied me with meal coupons so I could get some free cafateria food, I would be happy.

It's worse today. The computer speakers are shit, so my music comes out distorted, and the air pressure is different in both my ears. One popped, the other hasn't.

This difference in air pressure, the boredom, and the distorted speakers are giving me the mother fucking granddaddy of all headaches.

AHAHAHAHA!!!

I'm on a co-op work term right now and I'm making almost $20/hr. >:

why don't interns get paid, they are the ones who work the hardest.

Matt Harty Sep 29th, 2004 04:10 PM

I didn't think interns had to do that much work.

As part of my engineering degree I had to intern for a MODOT (Missouri Department of Transportation) survey team in the Southwest region. I was paid really well for my term ($28.35 an hour) and I can go back to it if I want. But it was pretty hard work and in hazardous conditions.

I am so pissing in it...

punkgrrrlie10 Sep 30th, 2004 01:05 AM

Externing is worse. Then you pay THEM to work for them.

DamnthatDavid Sep 30th, 2004 01:22 AM

well, that's what I'm technically doing.

I pay to go to school. The school puts me into internship programs within it's own control. I work for the school.

i had 4 interns this summer. only one of them was worth a damn. the other three if i ever see in my office again i will frickin strangle. but my one good intern left yesterday she had to go back to school :(. we're trying to hook her up with a co-op. but interns in general are worthless unless you have menial degrading tasks.

Dixie Sep 30th, 2004 10:27 AM

and gov't interns do get paid. but they don't do a damn thing b/c they're someone's kids that need a little summer job for a little cash. the 3 of my four interns couldn't even write down a damn serial number off the back of a computer. i really don't know why that was so hard for them. and as a favor to us who have real jobs, don't intern somewhere that has nothing to do with what you're in school for, it's a waste of time for those of us who do take work seriously and have no choice but to do this shit everyday (that's a general statement to anyone interning).
