V For Vendetta

This movie was surprisingly, shockingly good, and it actually stayed pretty close to the book, as I recall...well, compared to the other Alan Moore adaptations anyway. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

pjalne Mar 18th, 2006 06:27 PM

I was surprised too. I hated how it had to spell out what it was about instead of just... well, being about what it was about (Wachowski architect syndrome), but it was a solid adaptation. I laughed pretty hard at the bits where the director went nuts with the Pat Robertson shower scene and the Benny Hill segment.

The only thing I really missed from the comic book was the bit where Evey took V's mask, but I guess the movie covered what that was all about with the army of Vs, if a bit heavy-handed.

xbxDaniel Mar 18th, 2006 07:56 PM

To somebody who hasn't read the books, would it still be interesting?

pjalne Mar 18th, 2006 08:06 PM

Yeah. I would probably like it more if I hadn't read the comic, the Wachowskiness of the script clashed a bit with what I like about Moore's style.

Immortal Goat Mar 18th, 2006 08:18 PM

Excellent, excellent adaptation. Throughout the movie, I kept thinking to myself "they did it".

Then I saw the ending. Looking back, it was a good ending, but I had to pick my jaw up off of the floor when I realized we wouldn't be seeing Evey become "V".

I'm going to see it again, and then I'm going to write a review for the site. I think the only way I can make a fair judgement is if I see this again, knowing the changes, and being able to appreciate the film for what it is, rather than what the book is.

Protoclown Mar 19th, 2006 04:00 AM

I also missed Evey picking up the mask at the end, but I still felt the ending was relatively satisfying. How the Wachoskis somehow managed NOT to completely fuck this up royally is beyond me, but they actually pulled it off...

Fortunately it's been a couple years since I've read the book so it's all just a fuzzy memory right now and I was able to look at the movie on its own and loosely compare it to the graphic novel.

CaptainBubba Mar 19th, 2006 06:16 PM

I've never read the book, but after seeing the movie I think I might have to. This movie was absolutely great.

Immortal Goat Mar 19th, 2006 06:23 PM

Definitely must read the book, Bubba. If you thought the movie was good, then the book will probably floor you.

Moobs Mar 19th, 2006 07:17 PM

I've read the book, and watched the movie. I love it. I would of preferred it if Natalie Portman wasn't bald :(

AChimp Mar 19th, 2006 07:30 PM

This movie is awesome. :(

Jixby Phillips Mar 20th, 2006 07:35 PM

ITS TIM ALLEN VS THE SHAGGY DAHG

HERES THE SNAP!

Staxeon Mar 22nd, 2006 09:52 PM

I've never read the comic and was surprised on how powerful this movie was. To me the ending was poignant, but I'm now going to look for the comic to compare to.

Immortal Goat Mar 22nd, 2006 11:49 PM

If you have a Barnes & Noble around you, I know that they carry the graphic novel, and if it isn't in stock, you can order it. It should be in stock, though, because the one I work at has them on display because of the release of the movie.

Staxeon Mar 22nd, 2006 11:52 PM

Its the original story right?

I fear lame "special" re-releases of material when a movie comes out. Ya know, with different artist or when a plot line is editted for a movie, then the book is re-released with the hacked movie plot now in the comic.

Immortal Goat Mar 23rd, 2006 12:04 AM

No, it's the original story. Just don't get the novelization, cuz THAT'S the movie plot.

EDIT: BTW, thought you might get a kick out of this. I already posted it in the Politics "V" thread, but fuck it.

That's me and my girlfriend at the premier of the movie. Fuck you guys, it's fun to dress in costume.

Staxeon Mar 23rd, 2006 01:22 AM

With the look on your girlfriend's face you look like some creepy guy asking her something like,

"Wouldest thou like to accompany me back to my Puritan village for lamb shanks and watercress sandwiches?"

Immortal Goat Mar 23rd, 2006 01:22 AM

Yeah, the mask creeps the fuck out of her.

James Mar 23rd, 2006 01:26 AM

Eggy in a basket. FBI.

I refuse to see this movie.

Jixby Phillips Mar 23rd, 2006 02:05 AM

woah immortal goat is that a cinemark theater

Immortal Goat Mar 23rd, 2006 02:50 AM

Yes, in fact, it is. Cinemark Tinseltown. I love the seating they have there. Stadium style, and the chairs have a slight rock to them.

Jixby Phillips Mar 23rd, 2006 03:12 AM

i could tell because i work at one :rollin

ArrowX Mar 23rd, 2006 12:30 PM

They did the entire film without taking off V's mask, or at least showing his face. I think that made the story more interesting, I honstley expected to see the Wachowski brothers fuckup. Then again if they try for a V2 or V3, the same thing happened wiht the Matrix. This movie actually made me a little more interested in the possible Halo movie.
