Drive-in Movies

Whilst in Minneapolis I went to my first drive-in movie.
My god, you americans are weird.

executioneer Aug 6th, 2006 06:29 PM

what kinds of weird things did they have/do there

Esuohlim Aug 6th, 2006 06:33 PM

I wasn't aware that there were drive-ins anymore in the last 10 years.

ArrowX Aug 6th, 2006 08:11 PM

The last drive through I was at had a double Feature, it was Scooby Doo and Eight Legged Freaks.

the one near me is pretty rad, they have a bunch of old 80s/90s arcade games (this would be more awesome if they all WORKED but oh well) and instead of having one shitty speaker you put on your car window, they broadcast the movie audio on a short-range FM transmitter, so if you've got a good car stereo it's seriously awesome

add in being able to bring your own food and the fact that you get to see two movies for only 6 dollars and that drive-in is fuckin awesome

and they don't even gouge you that much on the concessions :o

executioneer Aug 6th, 2006 08:28 PM

plus: when it started up, they would show PORN movies :eek

Mine is just like Willie's, except it's in Baltimore and never involved porn.

Parents made beds for their kids on the roofs of cars and none fell out, that was weird. And some families seemed to have brought the entire contents of their homes with them, sofas, bbq, duvet, pillows, dogs, etc. Sitting on top of my friend's car, next to another friend with the speaker wedged between his knees seemed highly bizarre, the sound was truelly crap. As was the film, but we went for the experience. It was cheap though.

executioneer Aug 7th, 2006 01:32 PM

Same for me, actually. But mine had Stuart Little 2. :(

I love drive-ins. The one close to me sounds exactly like Willie's, too. Last one I went to was Batman Begins and War of the Worlds. 'Bout time I go back :/

Bod Aug 8th, 2006 02:51 AM

It was a bargain, 3 movies for aroun $7. It costs around £5 to watch one movie in the UK. But it started to get cold on top of that car. Had we thought to bring a sofa and sleeping bags, we probably would have stayed for all three films.

Esuohlim Aug 8th, 2006 03:41 AM

I live near a really nice theater where movie tickets costs 9 bucks. Last February two other friends and I bought tickets to motherfucking Date Movie and plus popcorn we spent almost $50. >:

Apparently, according to that website, the Pontiac Silverdome has a drive-in. I'll have to check it out sometime. The last movies I saw at a drive-in were Flipper followed by Sgt. Bilko. :(

HickMan Aug 8th, 2006 05:07 PM

It all depends on the ride you take to the Drive Ins. My car, for example, is perfect.

I can hold a lot of people. But I don't like to have more than one other person with me if ya know what I mean. But the back hatch pops up and theres a small two-seater bench that faces opposite of the driver. Also, my lights inside the wagon don't work, so when the hatch goes up, the lights stay off. ;)

More like £15 if you go to an Odeon without a student card :(

Bod Aug 8th, 2006 07:43 PM

£15?!!! Which part of the UK do you live in?

Actually I might be wrong, it could be £7.50 without a student card and like, £5 with one. :/

Bod Aug 9th, 2006 11:02 AM

That's still expensive though. Mind you, I do live in one of the least prosperous parts of this country. It's no bloody wonder attendance levels at cinemas are down.
