Christopher Moore is hit or miss.
He always starts off his novels with a real bang, great writing and really good off-the-wall comedy, but his novels tend to fall apart in the third.
However, some of his work is brilliantly funny and original. Lamb, the Gospel of Biff is a great one. As is Bloodsucking Fiends is a great comedic take on Vampires ( second only to Fat White Vampire Blues for comedy vampire, uh, fiction ).
The rest of his stuff is a little hit or miss, mainly for the reason above.
