Am I a huge dick?

I've dated this girl for about two weeks now and we get along quite nicely. The problem was, that my girlfriend talked a lot about her ex-boyfriend. Like, how he is still obsessed with her and shit. Even though they broke up two years ago. Well, she was telling the truth. The old boyfriend started calling her again about a week ago and naturally my girlfriend said to leave her alone.

But he just kept on calling and few days ago the ex-boyfriend collapsed mentally and was sent to a mental hospital.
Yesterday I was at a bar with my girlfriend and at some point she turned very quiet. So I asked what was wrong, but she didn't say anything. Then she just left. She had found out that the ex-boyfriend had a little date with the pavement. Hes dead. And I feel relief. Am I a dick?

Well, I think it doesn't make you a dick if you had really good reasons to hate him. But still, in my opinion there's always something "wrong" in being happy over someone's death.

Do you have any details about his death? :/

RectalWart Nov 5th, 2006 10:49 AM

He didn't say he was "happy" about it, just felt relief. That's a human feeling, and totally not unnatural.

You didn't know the guy personally, so it is ok to feel relief that he will no longer be messing with the budding relationship you and this girl are trying to forge.

That being said, are you sure that this girl wasn't a bit obsessed with the ex-boyfriend? You did state that she talked about him all the time, even though they broke up 2 years ago. Watch the situation carefully. Try not to get your heart broken in this mess!

Mad Melvin Nov 5th, 2006 10:57 AM

Yeah, I was kinda worried that she might go back to her ex at some point. She mentioned how her ex proposed to her and that sort of stuff. I really didn't want to hear any of it, but since this relationship is still kinda fresh, I was too polite to tell her that.

And as for the details of her ex's death, all I know is that he jumped from a high place and gravity did the rest.

RectalWart Nov 5th, 2006 11:00 AM

STILL KINDA FRESH? After 2 years?

Mad Melvin Nov 5th, 2006 11:08 AM

I meant my relationship with her. Two weeks.

RectalWart Nov 5th, 2006 01:32 PM

D'Oh! Sorry. :/

Well, just watch yourself, and try not to get hurt.

Grislygus Nov 5th, 2006 03:14 PM

If he completely mentally collapsed a few days ago, followed by suicide, he was probably just a wee bit unstable beforehand.
Probably not the sort of person you want obsessed with your girlfriend.

As long as you act supportively and help your girlfriend get over her inevitable depression, in no way can anyone accuse you be a dick.

Supafly345 Nov 8th, 2006 05:37 AM

Just don't tell her. Heck, my biggest mistake for my last girlfriend was telling her I thought retarded and fat people were hilarious, and she thought i was the scum of the earth for that. Keep your worst thoughts a secret, as long as you know that nobody will find out.

Zen444 Nov 8th, 2006 06:12 PM

You don't have to fight someone for a whore.

Good job.

Azrael Nov 8th, 2006 06:19 PM

Sounds like the ex had a text book stalker complex, and had he not facillatated his own demise, he might have done something to harm the poor girl. I say good riddance, and don't feel bad about it at all.

sadie Nov 8th, 2006 10:08 PM

i hope nobody's taken my answer: yes.

CaptainBubba Nov 10th, 2006 06:27 PM

Yes.

Mad Melvin Nov 13th, 2006 03:04 PM

the worst thing was, I didn't get any sexings in four days! I mean, yeah, I understand that she was sad and all, but c'mon!

Grislygus Nov 13th, 2006 10:53 PM

I for one would like to offer Mad Melvin my condolences in his dire need for sexings, unlike this traitor over here.

Allright, if you insist on me explaining this to you, so be it. Let me walk you through it step by step.

This is humorous sarcasm on the half of the thread's author, Mad Melvin. By acting outraged at being inconvenienced by the lack of "sexings" (recreational procreation), he infers that he is actually a clueless, horrible dick. *Note: Not REALLY. That was the humorous part*

This is once again has the intent of humorous sarcasm, in response to Mad Melvin's post. In order to understand this, one needs to remember the idea that Mad Melvin is a clueless dick (not really, the inital post was sarcastic. Try to keep up).

My post implied that, as a fellow chauvenist dick, I feel that sex is more important than anything, and that WhiteRat was a "traitor" to the male cause (not specifically mentioned, but inferred) for feeling compassion. Once again, sarcasm.

Hope that clears things up for you.

RectalWart Nov 14th, 2006 08:22 AM

The words "infered" and "implied" are NOT interchangeable. When you want someone to "get" something from a statement or situation, you are "implying". When you hear or see something in a statement or situation, then you "infer" it.

The Spelling & Grammer Nazi strikes again! Pow! :rock

RectalWart Nov 14th, 2006 08:24 AM

And on a side note, the word "irrespective" drives me NUTS! My lawyer loves to use it, and I have to fight myself to keep from telling him that THERE IS NO SUCH WORD!

*sigh* Maybe if I got laid once in awhile, I wouldn't have these problems. :/

Grislygus Nov 14th, 2006 09:53 AM

There we go. All nice and tidied up, no more flawed interchanging of words.

Now, mainly because I feel guilty about sidetracking the whole kit 'n kaboodle, what's the current situation with your girlfriend, Melvin? Still depressed?

Mad Melvin Nov 14th, 2006 01:40 PM

Yeah, my last post was a joke. Obviously. And she is feeling much better right now.

thebiggameover Nov 15th, 2006 04:17 AM

do you know for sure that he was ever real, and that he did in fact kill himself? i have an ex that totaly would have made up that story just to fuck with me....

Supafly345 Nov 15th, 2006 04:54 AM
