The Nintendo Wii "Virtual Console" game discussion thread

I figured it'd be a good idea to have a thread where we can discuss the games that come out on the Virtual Console each week so people know which games are worth getting and which ones should be skipped.

As for today, the original Splatterhouse from the TG-16, Beyond Oasis (a game I know nothing about) from the Genesis, and Excitebike from the NES are coming out.

Schimid Mar 19th, 2007 04:46 PM

I'm amazed they aren't bringing out any more big guns now. Super Paper Mario and Mario Party 8 are hitting in a little less than a month, but it still wouldn't do them bad to keep on churning out the hits.

I don't remember who developed or published Zombies Ate My Neighbors!, but it'd be absolutely perfect for something like this. So far, due to my router not being compatible with the Wii, I've got Gunstar Heroes, Sonic, Super Mario World and Street Fighter II. Nothing else has really given me that extra push.

Mockery Mar 19th, 2007 04:51 PM

Actually, Zombies Ate My Neighbors is on the list of future releases, there's just no date for it yet. You can see the rest of the list if you scroll down here:

I know it won't work with the Wiimote like regular Wii games do, but "Punch-Out!!" would be so fuckin' good if you could play it by just swinging your arms.

Fathom Zero Mar 19th, 2007 04:52 PM

Nevermind, Mockery answered already.

Wait, I distinctly remember Zombies Ate My Neighbors to be a Konami game.

I knew it. Developed by Lucasarts, Published by Konami.

I just looked up Beyond Oasis. It's an Arabian/Persian/whateverthosepeoplearecalled themed adventure RPG. It looks fun and probably worth a look if you're fine with spending the dinero.

Immortal Goat Mar 19th, 2007 11:35 PM

Beyond Oasis was a great game. You had this enchanted gauntlet on your arm, and you could summon elemental spirits to help you reach your goals. By now, it's pretty standard fare. Fire, Water, Plant, and Shadow (I think, it's been a while since I have played), but it was awesome at the time, and is still pretty damned fun. Otherwise, it is similar to any adventure game of it's ilk at the time. Top-down perspective, sword combat, all very similar to Zelda. Still, as far as "similar to Zelda" games go, this is one of the better ones out there. I definitely reccomend it.

Fathom Zero Mar 19th, 2007 11:58 PM

Dammit, now I have to play it.

dude what router do you have? mine didn't work at first and people said it wasn't compatible but it turned out being really easy to fix it.

noob3 Mar 20th, 2007 01:25 AM

At Cliff Steele's house we were playing some INTENSE game where you jump around on trees & stuff and take down Ninjas who are throwing fire balls at you :o

I don't know. It's a Netgear WG or C or something I don't know, it's the stock that comes with Comcast service. I tried everything, even got Chojin to take a look at it and nothing has helped. It's apparently a huge problem for a lot of people and no-one knows a way around it.

Is yours the same :(

Chojin Mar 20th, 2007 02:58 AM

Noob, that's legend of kage and i used to play that all the time :<

I just bought excitebike because I love me the nes games that you can just pick up and play :< my front page always has super mario bros on it for just that reason ;<

Zomboid Mar 20th, 2007 06:55 PM

I really don't see how zombies ate my neighbors would work on the wii. I wouldn't be opposed to a wiimake though LOLOLOLOLOLOL

My younger brother just downloaded Splatterhouse and Elevator Action yesterday.

Mockery Apr 2nd, 2007 03:26 PM

Today's releases:

-Starfox 64 (N64)

-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES - the Ultra Games version, not the arcade one)

-Dragon's Curse (TurboGrafx-16 - never played this one, any good?)

Sacks Apr 2nd, 2007 04:01 PM

Hahahaha, Elevator Action! I actually have the cartridge for that. It's the best game to play if you want to piss off all of your friends with gameplay far too amazing for them to ever understand.

Sacks Apr 2nd, 2007 04:07 PM

Seriously though guys that game is garbage.

do you know how the nes version differs from the arcade? is it still good?

the_dudefather Apr 2nd, 2007 07:04 PM

the nes game is a platform game, which I quite like, but some people don't http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjUz8IT0CYg

Mockery Apr 2nd, 2007 07:42 PM

That guy tries way too hard to be angry/funny. :/ It'd be much better if it came off naturally (ie: somebody other than him did it).

But anyway, the game is entertaining if you ask me, but if you're expecting something like the easy beat 'em up arcade game, you're in for a surprise.

Sacks Apr 2nd, 2007 07:49 PM

For real, I hate that guy.

executioneer Apr 2nd, 2007 11:06 PM

tmnt on nes is rad but it takes a lot of strategy :x

Sacks Apr 3rd, 2007 07:56 PM

I never got to beat it when I was young because our maid stole it. I was pissed.

Mockery Apr 9th, 2007 01:56 PM

Today's releases:

-Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle (Genesis - I only played the original game, never tried this one out.)

-BRAVOMAN (TurboGrafx-16 - supposedly a fairly entertaining beat 'em up game. Anybody played this one?)

-Galaga (NES - meh.)
