Snake is in the game yes but he has to conform to the rules of the game. I imagine there would be certain countries that would demand a higher-then-E-rating if snake were seen with realistic weapons. Some might even be picky enough to not allow the game at all on store shelves for such a seemingly petty reason. Fantasy/cartoon violence = ok! Real or implied real violence = not so much.

For example I've heard of some Europian countries that consider it illegal to allow depicted children to be harmed in games. So a developer would either have to write a custom version of the game to comply with just that countries' laws, not sell in that country and miss out on the profit and stigma that comes with that choice, or they would have to just write it that way from the very beginning. The cheaper route would be the most obvious one.

Another fine example is Chinas' somewhat-recent decision to censor the undead characters in WoW so that they cannot show bones. I've heard that Blizzard had to whip up a patch that made all undead in those regions look like they had "muscle and skin covering their bones". Probably just done with a simple color change. Yes it was a dumb restriction China put on Blizzard but they said "If you don't make this change we will disallow your game in our country." And China has such a dense gamer population that it would have been like breaking Blizzard's legs.

I thought most Chinese pirated everything anyway.

i can't wait for us all to play :love

i figured that it also was gonna play slower because of the online play. i can't imagine the game would be able to run that fast and still have smooth gameplay online.

Guitar Woman Feb 1st, 2008 10:47 PM

Strikers does, I don't see why this wouldn't.

bigtimecow Feb 1st, 2008 10:56 PM

i mean like, i figured one of the reasons that they slowed the speed of the game down (as compared to melee) was to make online play be smooth and not lag.

MarioRPG Feb 1st, 2008 11:42 PM

I hope my connection will be able to compare with your guys' when/if we play online.

Spoilers!

ItalianStereotype Feb 2nd, 2008 04:53 PM

is it just me, or did a lot of those final smash moves look COMPLETELY WORTHLESS

snake's looks like fun though!

Codiekitty Feb 2nd, 2008 05:25 PM

Yeah, and many of them weren't even neat to look at. DK Bongos, what the hell?

They should have had a brick wall fall down in front of him, damaging the enemy. Then he would bust through the wall doing more damage and sending bricks flying, which of course would also cause damage on contact. The bricks could have stayed on the map and become items. :(

Schimid Feb 2nd, 2008 07:32 PM

I thought Rambi would be the best FS for DK EVER, but Nintendo seems hell-bent on forgetting that DK had any games before DK64

I love Luigi's final smash even though I have know idea where it comes from. I don't recall ever playing Luigi: Confessions of an Opium-Eater.

Seems like a distant cousin to the timestop move of Dio from Jojo's bizzare adventure, ironically enough: The guy who voiced Luigi did a voice for Jojo's Bizzare Adventure as well.

Also: Wolf and Falco are clonecity, should of just foregone making them and gone for Ridley.

MarioRPG Feb 2nd, 2008 09:28 PM

Agreed, Star Fox characters have always been fags.

This is what I was thinking, although a whole stampede of animal buddies would also be neat.

Or maybe have a red girder appear at the top of the screen, DK jumps up there, starts throwing barrels, and you could control where DK throws them.

Anything is better than what they've got now.

I think that's Nintendo caving into all the "mushroom" jokes.

Neen Feb 3rd, 2008 01:32 AM

Luigi's FS is a reference to Luigi's Mansion Game Over sequence.

ItalianStereotype Feb 3rd, 2008 02:15 AM

I think part of the problem was that the person playing probably didn't have any hands. I don't really know what diddy's final smash is about, since they just flew him right over the edge and into the pit.

on the opposite note, snake's smash is awesome!

why the fuck did they put the bongos they are in like 2 games but diddy has the peanut guns from dk 64 now thats bullshit but anyways i already payed for the game so meh and some look taken from marvel vs capcom

Guitar Woman Feb 3rd, 2008 02:50 AM

God damnit, Strikers Charged is still completely inaccesable due to Soul Calibur bullshit and Melee is getting boring with no IRL friends who play it

This needs to be out immediately >:
