Yeah, between WASP and Richard Band doing the score I can see where that could tie this film up in limbo. But who knows, Shout! Factory has been releasing awesome 80s treasures by the score lately.

I just watched The Visitors again a few days ago, Aaarg. How does the remake (sort of a sequel) stack up?

Aaarg Nov 29th, 2012 02:55 PM

all right i watched dungeonmaster since it's going away on netflix. WTF did i watch? weird stuff.

re: just visiting, a lot of the jokes are re-used. it's much more of a remake than a sequel, and less interesting because it's american instead of french (i had enough problems with the fact that a 12th century frenchman could speak modern french, but now he speaks modern english too!). if you liked the visitors a lot, i guess it's worth seeing the stupid remake.

apparently they're making a second sequel, though. i guess jean reno is out of money or something. i'm looking forward to les visiteurs 3.

I took a friend and his friend out to see Rise of the Guardians--it's a fairly typical children's fantasy, but it's genuinely gorgeous and oftentimes outright spectacular.

Lion Man! King Solomon's son is raised by lions, has his hands replaced with steel claws, and battles by jumping around on trampolines. Oh, and it's Turkish.

the thief of bagdad (douglas fairbanks). cool movie.

I don't know or care what anyone else really thought about Skyfall, but if you didn't think Albert Finney was fucking amazing, then you should be lobotomized.

Tales from the Darkside the Movie: I've had the poster for a while and finally watched the film giving me reason to frame it.

Pointless comic relief bullshit character in a bad movie.

But you're right, you do need to be lobotomized to enjoy it.

The Hobbit

I dunno. I liked it, I guess. Some of it anyways. I really hated the over used cgi which made everything look like plastic. The whole goblin mountain fightscene was like a videogame. There was also a bit too much slapstick and humor in odd places. Still, worth a watch and I do want to see the sequel.

Aaarg Dec 13th, 2012 10:58 AM

i'll never see the hobbit but you can never have too much slapstick

speaking of which,
a king in new york - chaplin's the greatest.
modern times (again) - chaplin's the greatest.
strigoi - great movie! like a subdued, romanian shaun of the dead.
animal farm (1999) - crap junk crap balls

WhiteRoseBrian Dec 16th, 2012 09:30 PM

I just came back from seeing An Unexpected Journey with my parents and my friend. In our estimation, it was nowhere as bad as some of the reviews have made it out to be. In my estimation, the pacing was appropriate; the 3D did well in showing the world, the characters, the battles, and the dramatic scenes; and it promised an epic cinematic story in the years ahead.

ParaNorman was actually pretty good. I thought it was crappy CGI, but it's actually nice stop-motion.

Just watched blood diner, return of the killer tomatoes, cemetery man, four flies on grey velvet, brain damage, and stay tuned. I have no life.

WhiteRoseBrian Dec 23rd, 2012 09:53 AM

The very next evening after seeing the Hobbit, I went by myself to see the Life of Pi. It was lovely, really.

I had a few days of HBO over the weekend, so I hung around and watched HBO movies.

Picture Paris- I glanced up when I heard the French voiceover, saw Julia Louis-Dreyfus, rolled my eyes...because she is always the character whose husband leaves her in a midlife crisis, and this was more of the same. As it progressed, though, it took a positively delightful turn. I now approve of it.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. Mostly lame, couple of halfhearted laughs. I now realize that this was the audition tape for Hunger Games Boy, as Winter's Bone was the audition tape for Hunger Games Girl. Both are doing exactly what they did in Hunger Games. He even injures the same leg.

New Year's Day: I'm amazed this held my attention, given all the people in it I can't stand, but it sort of did. I think I just weather-sealed my brain and stared blankly at the screen as I ate tortilla chips. America!

10,000 Volt Ghost Jan 6th, 2013 07:08 PM

God bless america.

Self indulgent murder fest of assholes by bobcat goldwhait.

Once again if you haven't seen this watch it immediately.
