Captain Freedom!

I love that during Captain Freedom's Workout instead of showing how to exercise himself he just strikes poses while women exercise around him. :lol

I would have liked more Captain Freedom in The Running Man

The little things like "The Hate Boat", "Captain Freedom's Workout", and "Climbing for Dollars" were what made The Running Man so great.

The first Robocop had a lot of that too (I'd buy that for a dollar!)

10,000 Volt Ghost Sep 25th, 2010 01:43 PM

That's how I work out.

Love the first robocop too. Love the part where he steals the pink caddy from the pimp and g-rides it around Detroit.

I was watching some demos for dead rising 2 multiplayer and then immediately needed to watch Running Man after.

ROCKULA -
movie was so fucking silly. awful music, awful acting, but the main dude keeps a blog now and i went to the blog and there was a post called ROCKULA so i read it and it went on to be him bitching about marmaduke and avatar and it made me want to like him because he hates people and i can get behind that.

KICHIKU DAI ENKA (BANQUET OF BEASTS) -
this movie is fucking terrible. people apparently like it because it's shitty and people are shitty. it is apparently one of the goriest movies ever made, which doesn't really appeal to me. it's apparently also unsettling or whatever, which i didn't find to be the case either. it's awkward and disgusting (but not for the head getting blown off or the shotgun in the vagina, but for the fucking breathing sounds being the forefront of the soundtrack frequently). it's slow and stupid and fucking awful. i rarely get mad at a movie, but this one totally did it.

UN CHIEN ANDALOU -
watched it because it's one of those things that people see because it's culturally significant or some shit. fuck art films. why do people like this shit? fuck people.

dextire Sep 27th, 2010 06:48 PM

The remake of The Crazies. It was pretty good.
I enjoyed how the sheriff was almost like a commando.

Want to see this still. Big fan of the original.

kahljorn Sep 28th, 2010 06:07 AM

i watched the original and the not original and i thought it was funny how pretty much the only element of it they kept similar was that there were 3 people ;/

Kitsa Sep 29th, 2010 05:16 AM

I just sat through a VeggieTales movie and those animators have to be the laziest people I've ever seen.

MLE Sep 29th, 2010 05:55 PM

Sharktopus. It was terrible.

Fathom Zero Sep 29th, 2010 06:04 PM

But it had Eric "THEY TOOK MY THUMB" Roberts in it. :(

Dimnos Sep 29th, 2010 06:15 PM

You didnt like Sharktopus? The boy and I had a great time laughing at that. The end where they blow his brain up was phenomenal. :lol

MLE Sep 29th, 2010 06:18 PM

They certainly dropped the ball on cinematography on this one. Come on SyFy. You've done better.

Fathom Zero Sep 29th, 2010 06:35 PM

You're talking about SyFy Channel's movie production values? From the makers of Ice Spiders and Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus is supposed to come something good?

As an aside, Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus were made by that Asylum company that made the Transformers ripoff, Transmorphers. It seems to be what they're good at.

MLE Sep 29th, 2010 07:34 PM

I'm saying that in terms of what their standard production value usually is (which is usually sub-par), this is definitely way worse.

Tadao Sep 29th, 2010 10:41 PM

No way, Sharktopus is the bestest thing ever.

MLE Sep 29th, 2010 10:56 PM

I'll have you know, you made my boyfriend very happy by saying that. Thanks for that, I guess :>

RABID GRANNIES -
it took like 40 minutes of badly dubbed boring ugly english people before there was any violence, and by then i had completely lost interest.

I've always wanted to see this.

Aaarg Sep 30th, 2010 10:36 AM

the second half is OK for a shitty b-movie, but not worth sitting through the first 40 minutes or so.

Shadowdancer21b Sep 30th, 2010 02:22 PM

I just watched The Last Dragon and part of Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo on youtube.

Fathom Zero Sep 30th, 2010 03:35 PM

My uncle loved Rabid Grannies. I didn't get it his copy when he kicked the bucket, tho. :\

Aaarg Sep 30th, 2010 07:16 PM

it's on instant watch on netflix!

Aaarg Oct 1st, 2010 10:51 AM

CITY ON FIRE
an "inspiration" for reservoir dogs. by that i mean tarantino ripped off this movie. unfortunately this one only had the english dub so that sucked.

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 2nd, 2010 10:12 AM

I've seen the dvd case for City of fire and I remember the back of the case literally saying that "This is the movie that was ripped of for the plot of Resevoir Dogs."

Aaarg Oct 3rd, 2010 11:27 AM

it's pretty good. i like reservoir dogs more, unfortunately, but it might just be because SPOILERZ the "i'm a cop" in reservoir dogs was immediately followed with a gunshot, but not in city on fire.

VAMPIRE CIRCUS
some hammer horror film (without lee or cushings!) that was pretty sweet. i enjoyed.

RaNkeri Oct 3rd, 2010 03:33 PM

Human Centipede
God damn

Machete

Awesome

Aaarg Oct 6th, 2010 06:37 PM

FROGS
sam elliott plays a freelance photographer slash hippie who ends up on some rich old man's private island that is overrun by frogs and snakes and lizards that end up killing his family. don't get me wrong, it's a shit movie, but it's got tokay geckos being adorable.

THE DEADLY SWORD
easily the worst dubbing for a martial arts movie EVER, which makes this movie awesome. it HAS TO BE intentionally bad, but not so in a "let's make a funny dub for a shitty movie" sense, since it's your typical generic wuxia plot. the voices are just so absolutely awful. and great.

Fathom Zero Oct 6th, 2010 07:16 PM

I love Fwogs. The house filled with them reminded me of Squirm.

Aaarg Oct 7th, 2010 09:11 AM

yeah it wasn't as bad as everybody makes it out to be. i mean, the plot was nonexistent and the acting was terrible and it was just stupid, but man... those tokay geckos were great.

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 8th, 2010 10:14 AM

Let me in. Really good. I liked how in the movie they don't need to explain what a vampire does or is. You just know what it is so stuff just happens and you're like "Yeah, that makes sense to me. Thank you for not wasting an hour explaining it to me.'

Aaarg Oct 8th, 2010 12:22 PM

woah woah, that's out already? how does it compare to let the right one in? the trailer made it look... about the same, but american. which means it'd be lame, haha.

also,
THE BAT PEOPLE
shitty movie. i love bats.

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 8th, 2010 02:50 PM

I was surprised it came out so soon too. I still haven't seen let the right one in.

Aaarg Oct 8th, 2010 02:51 PM

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 8th, 2010 03:10 PM

Aaarg Oct 8th, 2010 05:03 PM

yeah but i tend to avoid new things (unless they have someone like donnie yen in them!) anymore.

i'm so glad i'm not the only one. girlfriend was browsing netflix when we first got it, checking out awful-looking horror movies, skipping over any with a date later than 2000. awesome.

we're fags together is all.

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 8th, 2010 05:51 PM

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 8th, 2010 06:29 PM

Finally tracked down House 3: The Horror Show. I really liked it, but it doesn't seem like a House movie.

Also watched Drag Me to Hell again. Absolutely love that movie. :)

darkvare Oct 13th, 2010 01:46 AM

i just watched yip man or ip man whatever title it really awesome movie tells the tale of bruce lees mentor and boy do the fight scenes rock specially when the guy punches a dude face like 50 times in less than 20 seconds

Aaarg Oct 13th, 2010 09:42 AM

hell yeah, donnie yen is awesome. ip man 2 came out this year, and it's awesome as well. he fights sammo hung in it. on a table. it's not as good as the first one, but it's worth checking out.

IZO -
expected the movie to be awesome based on the synopsis (samurai comes back from the dead and kills a lot of people), but this movie is fucking balls. couldn't finish it.

HARVEY -
jimmy stewart with an imaginary friend in a six-foot-three bunny. this movie was great.

BARTON FINK -
the coen brothers have made consistently good films. this one's pretty silly, but i liked it.

darkvare Oct 13th, 2010 01:46 PM

yeah i saw that one too

Aaarg Oct 13th, 2010 04:33 PM

you encouraged me to look into and then download more new donnie yen--apparently he's been in two movies released in 2010 in addition to ip man 2. sweet.

Aaarg Oct 14th, 2010 09:12 AM

The first one ('79) was decent and followed the "true" story in the book. Just how true the events are all in who you listen to, but it was an enjoyable movie and I imagine you could easily sit through the entire film. There was a cool documentary where they question the validity of the events, where George Lutz (owner during the time of the events) was ticked at the sequels. The '05 remake with Ryan Reynolds was horrible, but I do suggest watching the original. As for any one after the second I haven't bothered with.

i really don't get the positive reviews for hudsucker. what's so good about it?

honestly, i think they did a better job with blood simple, haha. at least people died in that one!

(have yet to see miller's crossing, it's not streaming on netflix and it's just been added to the dvd queue, so there's something in the neighborhood of 493 dvds above it)

Fathom Zero Oct 18th, 2010 06:02 PM

I dig the era, and it's exactly every fantasy I've ever had about it - the fast-talking business-y types are awesome. Paul Newman, Tim Robbins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, etc. All amazing in this movie. And how could you not love the extruded plastic dingus?

I have the feeling you might be disappointed with Miller's Crossing, not that I believe it's not good. I dunno. Just seems like it gets washed away by the Untouchables and the Godfather series.

Aaarg Oct 19th, 2010 07:29 AM

as long as it's got people dying, it should be good. that's what the coens do best.

also, yeah, i really didn't like the fast-talking perspective.

the testament of dr. mabuse
kind of long, but cool. there's a chase scene that i really liked.

Mad Melvin Oct 19th, 2010 12:44 PM

Machete

Meh. Far better than Expendables, but still kinda lame. The first half hour was awesome, but then they tried to put way too much plot in this gorefest and it became boring as hell.

Leon - The director's cut

One of the best action movies ever.

Brazil

I have never seen this for some reason, altough I love Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas and 12 Monkeys. It was almost as good as those two. Loved it, and the ending was beautiful and sad at the same time.

Predators

I was expecting the worst, but I was entertained. So...I dunno. It's ok I guess. Better than those AvsP atrocities.

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story

The hell with this shit.

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 19th, 2010 02:23 PM

Walk Hard had a few laughes but it could have been a 30 minute movie. We watched the extended version of it and it just went onnnnnnnnnn.

Aaarg Oct 19th, 2010 06:34 PM

all i remember liking from walk hard is tim meadows.

but that's because i like tim meadows a lot.

(matt besser was also in it but i think he had two lines and neither was supposed to be funny)

but yeah that movie sucked.

kahljorn Oct 19th, 2010 06:55 PM

A friend of mine sent me a movie called "Virginia Creepers". It's a documentary about all the various local Horror Hosts over the years. Good stuff.

I was surprised to see a familiar face however:

Kitsa Oct 27th, 2010 07:09 PM

Interesting.

I watched three movies today.

Where the Wild Things Are...I haven't read the book since I was like 3, but I'm fairly sure they took some liberties. It was ok I guess, although I couldn't shake the feeling that I was looking at a bunch of etsy listing photos in movie format. I'm not sure why.

Homegrown...
not quite the average stoner comedy (can it be, with John Lithgow? How weird is it to hear John Lithgow talk about pot?) Parts were very funny and entertaining. Other parts contained fairly big plotholes and things that plain didn't make a lot of sense. I'm not sure I buy Jon Bon Jovi as a drug dealer, either. It kind of unexpectedly went dark...although not as dark as a film like Burn After Reading...and then brightened up again. I don't know. Kind of meh.

After.Life was all kinds of stupid. And I mean ALL kinds. You had Christina Ricci with her big lollipop head and Justin Long running the gamut of emotions, from blank-faced grief to blank-faced grief. The movie was chock-full of those loud orchestral jump scares, but it was not at all scary. People have compared it to Our Town but it's more Sixth Sense meets Misery, without the better merits of either. And I got so fucking tired of the constant swirls of red down a white drain.

:maul :ART :ART :ART :ART :ART

Anyhow, if you want to see a whole lot of Christina Ricci's boobies, have I found a film for you.

:boob:boob

dextire Oct 27th, 2010 11:39 PM

Night of the Demons remake. It had decent looking demons and it took place on Halloween night, so I'm happy. :halloween2

The scene that made the whole movie for me though happened in the first five minutes by two stoners:

Aaarg Oct 28th, 2010 11:09 AM

farewell, my concubine
a bit too long, some parts were quite unbelievable, and i spent the whole movie wondering when the suicide would occur. haha.

kingdom of the vampire
just because you have no budget doesn't mean your movie HAS to suck. this is a vampire movie about a teenage (?) vampire named jeff (really) who gets mad at his mom for killing/eating people. i would call it an angstpire movie. also, bad.

Just watched Dawn of the Dead (Romero version). Still a classic.

Kitsa Oct 28th, 2010 02:16 PM

I think she spends the better part of the second half of the movie naked, if you're into that.

Me, I remembered Mermaids and just felt gross.

Dimnos Oct 28th, 2010 03:45 PM

Yeah. Never saw that. Not going to have a problem. :)

Kitsa Oct 28th, 2010 09:32 PM

I saw a movie called Helen today. Ashley Judd played a woman with depression and suicidal ideation. The movie was basically about how her behavior alienated husband #2 and her teenage daughter. It was okay, but very predictable (especially when the clone of Angelina Jolie from Girl, Interrupted made her appearance). It was also one of those cold, dreary, artsy pieces where the surroundings were meant to echo the depression and so on. Apparently depression is contagious, because I was battling it after 2 hours of minimalist gray cinderblock rooms and bleak gray beaches.

I went to see Saw 3D last night. They had some minor things pop out at you in 3D but I was more impressed with how the 3D made it look like super high def.

The movie ended right at least.

Kitsa Oct 29th, 2010 04:02 PM

I read an article that said these newer 3d movies are giving people migraines because of "unnatural eye movements".

I just finished watching Youth In Revolt. It was okay. Justin Long was almost tolerable in this one, and Fred Willard high on shrooms is amusing. Michael Cera plays Michael Cera, as usual. He's a smartass intellectual wannabe with a miserable life...Jean Smart and Steve Buscemi do well as his divorced parents, with Zach Galifianakis as his mom's boyfriend. He's in love with an unattainable Francophile who listens to Gainsbourg (but pronounces it Gains-burg for some reason, despite the over-the top trilling and phlegmy Rs everywhere else) and would do anything to escape her religious parents' clutches.

Insert hijinks and an ex boyfriend who looks disturbingly like Fred from Scooby-Doo, blah blah blah, gets the girl in the end. But all of the pseudo-Indie shit, the 70s harvest gold interiors and shag carpeting and vinyls and Gainsbourg and all that stuff...I have a lot of trouble buying it as cool and novel. Maybe because I refuse to admit that my parents were cool.

Ex Leper Oct 30th, 2010 08:27 PM

Night of the Demons (2009) & Get Him to the Greek. I enjoyed them both.
