I watched Ninja Cheerleaders starring George Takei

It is as bad and silly as you would expect it to be

Aaarg Nov 4th, 2010 10:02 AM

kagemusha - normally war movies bore me to death. i didn't care for the battle scenes in this one (i never do), but the rest of the movie kept me interested enough to watch for nearly 3 hours.

the hidden blade - this one was boring throughout. it started to get all right near the end, but that's it. the end was awful.

I recorded that and my girlfriend found it on the dvr. She was just like "What the heck?"

Fathom Zero Nov 4th, 2010 02:57 PM

I like the color palette in Kagemusha.

Kitsa Nov 4th, 2010 04:21 PM

Watching Rinne. I AM NOTICING A PATTERN HERE, SHIMIZU.

kurosawa's color movies are always great.

i'm excited because the netflix queue is just about to enter a set of like 6 kurosawa movies i've never seen. haha.

captain516 Nov 6th, 2010 11:13 AM

The Alienator.
What a hilariously bad movie. MST and Doc Mock were MADE for this sorta thing.

Kitsa Nov 7th, 2010 10:56 PM

Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

It started off slow and boring and with more of that dude's wang than I ever wanted to see. It got funnier about 3/4 of the way through but I noticed just about all of the funny was coming from Russell Brand.

I'm glad they got their shit together and came back with Get Him to the Greek, because that was way funnier.

10,000 Volt Ghost Nov 8th, 2010 10:05 AM

Scott Pilgrim vs the world.

The movie glitched out when Jason Schwartzman killed michael cera and it wouldn't start up again. Best ending ever.

Esuohlim Nov 8th, 2010 12:20 PM

Iron Man 2

The defining moment for me was when 1.5 hours of building-up conflict was resolved by shooting a laser at a triangle for 5 seconds

Dimnos Nov 8th, 2010 12:28 PM

Both Iron Man movies have some nice special effects but thats about it. :(

Guitar Woman Nov 8th, 2010 02:42 PM

Sherlock Holmes!

It was pretty good. I don't know much about the source material, but Holmes' ability to determine an encyclopedia entry's worth of knowledge from one or two mundane details is either awesome and believable or completely ludicrous depending on the situation.

Fantastic fist-fights. Like, McGoohan-tier.

10,000 Volt Ghost Nov 8th, 2010 03:04 PM

I really liked Sherlock Holmes. Did you watch the other Sherlock Holmes movie that came out last year?

Guitar Woman Nov 8th, 2010 03:13 PM

There were two? I was talking about the Guy Ritchie one.

10,000 Volt Ghost Nov 8th, 2010 05:47 PM

DID ROBERT DOWNEY JR. SHOOT A LASER AT A TRIANGLE?

Guitar Woman Nov 8th, 2010 08:43 PM

no, but he did beat up a french canadian giant with an electric tuning fork

speaking of which, the "meat and potatoes" fight is probably my favorite scene in the entire movie

kahljorn Nov 9th, 2010 04:01 AM

WATCHED, "THE VANISHING"

GOOD MOVIE BUT FUCK THAT.

*EDIT*
FUCK THAT.

Fathom Zero Nov 9th, 2010 06:26 AM

It's not that bad on the depressing-scale. Savior, Eden Lake, Threads and Wickerman (the original, duh) are movies that are great, but I rather not watch them again.

Ex Leper Nov 9th, 2010 01:27 PM

Tim Burton's Alice & Wonderland It was good film, but i wish Tim would make less remakes/adaptations and try to create some original stories again. Perhaps a film based on the characters from his poetry book Oyster Boy.

Aaarg Nov 9th, 2010 06:35 PM

red beard
kurosawa is great. this movie did not feel like three hours, at all. you know a movie is awesome when you don't like the main character but the rest of the film makes up for it.

Aaarg Nov 12th, 2010 10:24 AM

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

Am I the only one who really didn't like this movie? Everybody I talk to thinks it's the greatest thing since the NES. I found the pacing terrible, the video game references shallow, and the plot boring. It wasn't all bad and there were some funny moments, but I had to force myself to finish it. Maybe they hype ruined it for me.

The Social Network

I went into this convinced I would hate it but I actually thought it was pretty good, accurate portrayal or not. Kinda like a modern day Pirates of Silicon Valley. I also thought Reznor did a great job on the soundtrack.

Fathom Zero Nov 13th, 2010 05:24 AM

Soundtrack was great, but I think, even though it's a lot of allegory for nerddom, that it's gonna be dated really fast.

Same with this Scott Pilgrim business, which I didn't really enjoy. But then I have weird tastes. Doesn't help I'm a snob.

10,000 Volt Ghost Nov 13th, 2010 11:37 AM

I was upset they didn't use the Prodigy song anywhere in the movie but they blare it in the trailer and previews. (for scott pilgrim)

spookware Nov 13th, 2010 03:36 PM

I though Scott pilgrim was just crap. Its like they had a huge budget for special effects and just through it into the movie at random points. I think perhaps a 9 year old would enjoy it.

I just finished watching Four Loins which I found extremely funny.

elx Nov 14th, 2010 02:25 AM

scott pilgrim/social network both sucked :(

elx Nov 14th, 2010 02:26 AM

did any of you guys see skyline?

kahljorn Nov 14th, 2010 01:18 PM

Everyone told me scott pilgrim would be a great movie if i was a 13 year old girl. Kinda surprised you didn't like it ;/

Esuohlim Nov 14th, 2010 02:25 PM

I saw Grandma's Boy for the first time and all these shitty comedy movies follow the same formula and I'm sick of watching them.

The first 20 minutes or so was really good, which is usually the case. If every comedy made in the last decade were only 20 minutes long I'd probably love all of them.

Sam Nov 14th, 2010 02:30 PM

I SAW SKYLINE, IT SUCKED.

I SAW THAT TRAIN MOVIE WITH NEW CAPTAIN KIRK, IT WAS ALRIGHT FOR A REAL STORY BASED ON REAL ACTUAL EVENTS THAT HAPPENED IN THIS WORLD THAT WE LIVE IN AT ONE POINT IN OUR VERY REAL HISTORY.

i like the coens a lot. this one makes up for hudsucker. i was totally waiting for it to turn into barton fink with the dry-cleaning guy, but it went elsewhere.

ugetsu
it was all right, but i always expect so much more from ghost movies. haha.

night of the hunter
this is the type of movie i imagine nick cave to LOVE. had some really good shots.

dextire Nov 15th, 2010 08:22 PM

Dark and Stormy Night. A spoof of old mystery movies from the guys that made The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra.
They try way too hard, but it's good for a few laughs. :)

Esuohlim Nov 16th, 2010 02:08 AM

I just saw Moon.

Moon is fucking awesome, and I hate movies. That's how good Moon is.

Aaarg Nov 17th, 2010 09:51 AM

stray dog
kind of disappointing for an akira kurosawa movie! i was surprised! not much happens, is all. it stars mifune and shimura, so that counts for something.

les tresors caches de michel ocelot
this isn't a movie, but a dvd collection of michel ocelot's short films and early work. some good stuff (except the björk video), makes me wish i could have dragons and princesses sooner.

it was pretty gross but i liked the bit with the jet engine

10,000 Volt Ghost Nov 18th, 2010 03:58 PM

That's the only part of the movie I liked. Also the part where Mr. Margerin got all wet in the eyes when they dropped him into the temple of doom was amusing.

also: beavis and butthead [/spoiler]

BEST WORST MOVIE: I enjoyed it, it was fun but it was also sort of depressing to see how they feel about the film and how it's effected them. The actress who played the mother was particularity sad.

hot Kukuro Nov 20th, 2010 09:28 PM

i tried to watch Resurrection, but it's like NOWHERE online. So I had to deal with Hansel & Gretel, Ninja Assassin, and the 4th Floor.

Kitsa Nov 20th, 2010 10:50 PM

Grown Ups. Had some okay moments but otherwise the only redeeming factor was Steve Buscemi.

It was very mild, it must have been made for "families".

Kitsa Nov 24th, 2010 02:18 PM

Watching "Trade-In" now. Godawful.

Cracking soundtrack, though.

Grislygus Nov 26th, 2010 08:23 PM

just saw Fair Game, after hearing a shit ton of people label it as being mediocre as hell

good movie, actually, as good a job as they could have done. good acting, a decently forged/adapted plot arc, everything kind of blipped by at a quick pace and then it was over.

Shadowdancer21b Nov 26th, 2010 09:45 PM

MST3K Wild Wild World of Batwoman AKA "She was a Hippie Vampire". Man that movie was bad. Several times during the show Tom Servo said "Kill Me" he even screamed for the movie to end. It's #29 on IMDB's bottom 100. Incidentally number one and two are "Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2" and "Manos: the Hands of Fate" respectively.

Just saw Due Date. Liked it tons until I read a review and realized how crappy some of the jokes were. Am I going too far to say this film was only made for Zach Galifinakis?

I wish I could find some Tom Servo fan sextion!

Fathom Zero Nov 28th, 2010 03:47 AM

The Harry Potter movie. I should prolly reread them. I remember being really into them as a kid.

replicant Nov 28th, 2010 07:08 PM

Kick Ass.. Finally saw it. Enjoyed it. Thought it was a better effort than the director's take on Stardust. The only thing that really did not jive for me was the rocket pack. That sent things over the top. Loved Hit Girl. :) Enjoyed the fight choreography.

weird movie. i loved how happy the black midget was the whole time.

troma. stuuuuupid.

thelma & louise -
actually much better than expected. worth it for the rapist-murder alone, really.

Big Bang Theory is hilarious.

Zhukov Dec 8th, 2010 04:38 AM

Big Bang Theory is a disgrace.

I watched Lenbanon. It was good, but not as amazing and RAW as it was promised to be. A little cliche, and not a huge amount of depth to characters that are really the only thing in the movie. Good though.

Shadowdancer21b Dec 8th, 2010 01:59 PM

Watched Troy recently. Somehow missed all the bare manflesh the first time I had watched it. The fight choreography is awesome and it does an okay job of the story but they downplayed Odysseus. At least Ajax got some spotlight time. 3/5.

THE FLY (cronenberg) -
better than i'd always expected.

THE FLY II -
silly.

GIANTS AND TOYS -
a silly japanese movie about a sales war between a few candy companies.

THE GIRL ON THE BRIDGE -
some pretentious-ass french movie ("film") about a knife-thrower and a girl with awful teeth. reminded me of wristcutters: a love story. also, generally when movies are black&white well after they should be, it's a bad sign (yes, fuck jim jarmusch).

THE HOST -
cheesy korean horror movie about a fishmonster. not as bad as i was expecting, for what it was.

RUMBLE IN THE BRONX -
i hadn't seen this in something like twelve years. i think it's great that jackie chan can make an otherwise unwatchable movie... kind of enjoyable. also i like to see how other cultures perceive americans.
