Ex Leper Oct 10th, 2011 01:19 PM

I have the Thorn VHS myself. Recently started collecting tapes.

Aaarg Oct 11th, 2011 01:13 PM

oh god, vhs. my girlfriend refuses to get rid of her vhs collection because then she will no longer own a copy of leonard part 6. and then she changes the subject if i say "why don't you just keep a few and get rid of the rest?"

because really why would you hold on to a ninja scroll tape? legend (starring tom cruise!)? come on.

k0k0 Oct 11th, 2011 01:54 PM

Let her keep her VHS's man. I can relate. I have a bunch of my old vhs movies and have had girlfriends try and throw them out. But I still got them.

Dimnos Oct 11th, 2011 02:52 PM

Buy one of those vhs dvd burner things.

dextire Oct 11th, 2011 07:34 PM

But if you do that, you lose the awesome VHS covers. :halloween2

Aaarg Oct 12th, 2011 03:42 PM

haha, i can't make her get rid of anything.

but i'm not even suggesting get rid of anything worth keeping. don't get rid of the ed wood box set or leonard pt 6 or whatever.

i'm saying get rid of the copies of shit she doesn't even like. things other people handed over when they needed to offload their vhs cassettes onto somebody else. garden state (they still made vhs that late?!) and ferris bueller and whatever else?

we already have an overloaded dvd bookshelf!

k0k0 Oct 12th, 2011 03:51 PM

Create an overloaded vhs shelf in her honor. I may be speaking to you as kind of a pack rat, but forcing someone to get rid of something that they'd like to keep is something they'll eventually hate you for. I know I hated my ex for making me get rid of some of my jurassic park toy collection. Sure they looked like duplicates but they weren't! They had a different card that came with them and they were painted differently. Fucking bitch.

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 13th, 2011 12:04 AM

Aarg, I figured you would find this amuzing.

Get home from work, police and ambulance coming out of the blind neighbors house. Thought he fell or something. Turns out the blind neighbor ended up getting into a fight with his brother and stabbed him.

I was all like "I didn't know Zatoichi lived next door."

No one else got it

Fathom Zero Oct 13th, 2011 12:21 AM

:lol

That's the dumbest joke ever

Fathom Zero Oct 13th, 2011 12:56 AM

I'm going to watch the Quiet Earth shortly. I'm very excited.

dextire Oct 13th, 2011 01:17 AM

I'm sure he just stabbed him in a blind fury.

Watched the Night of the Demons remake again this year. Still pretty impressed with it.

Aaarg Oct 13th, 2011 01:34 PM

k0ke, i'm not forcing anybody to do anything! haha.

also sweet @ zatoichi references. we constantly reference everything and nobody else would get it. we must be the most boring couple ever. zatoichi usually comes up when she says "i'm so itchy" because i say "zat-so-itchy?" because i'm a big fat d0rk.

also night of demons remake? awful! for the first half of that movie i was like "that dude looks like fat, unemployed edward furlong" before finally realizing "that is fat, unemployed edward furlong!"

and redoing the bauhaus scene with type o negative is awful. i love type o negative, don't get me wrong, but man!

(however during the extended party scenes my girlfriend made the comment "is the soundtrack to this just punk-o-rama 3?" i had to correct her, because "code blue" was actually on punk-o-rama 2)

dextire Oct 15th, 2011 01:55 AM

Scream 4. If you're a fan of the series, this is one of the best (aside from the annoying opening sequence). :halloween2

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 20th, 2011 10:32 PM

Did a netflix instant search for rent and I spit on your grave came up instead.

pretty much the same movie.

God disembowels himself with a straight razor. The spirit-like Mother Earth emerges, venturing into a bleak, barren landscape. Twitching and cowering, the Son Of Earth is set upon by faceless cannibals.
This shit was pretty wild. DO NOT watch this while high.

Fathom Zero Oct 21st, 2011 07:17 AM

That's one of my favorite movies ever. Most if not all of it's on the internet.

All Hail Duke Oct 21st, 2011 09:18 PM

best worst movie

pretty good/funny considering it's about troll 2

Kitsa Oct 21st, 2011 11:17 PM

Inside Deep Throat. It was entertaining, I guess. Sort of sucks how the money was sort of mafia'ed up and the director/stars never saw any of it.

I read Ordeal and the part with Sammy Davis Junior and Linda Lovelace's husband really threw me. Never looked at that guy the same way again :jokesetup

I actually liked that too.

I'm dredding this

Fathom Zero Oct 22nd, 2011 12:14 PM

I forget but there's another terribad action movie that's getting remade. Hell, probably twenty of them are and I just don't know it.

Nothing but trouble was such a horrible movie. I had to see it again recently just to see if I was remembering it as horrible or if it actually was.

Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth. My personal favorite of the series. :halloween2
I love the idea of Pinhead's past self battling the present version.

All Hail Duke Oct 24th, 2011 09:58 PM

What's up with this Halloween3 dude? Sophisticated spambot? Hyperactive 12 year old who can't lay off the emoticons? I am not sure, but I can't see it ending well for him if he continues like this

Krythor Oct 27th, 2011 06:11 PM

I sort of miss when the internet was basically all posts like his.

darkvare Oct 27th, 2011 07:38 PM

oh internet, why did you grew up?

k0k0 Oct 27th, 2011 08:05 PM

I remember I had a webpage dedicated to The Critic when I was 11 years old. It stinked! (yes I know, stunk doesn't work though)

Aaarg Oct 28th, 2011 09:20 AM

have you watched the critic since then? it sure isn't as funny as when you were 11. :(

also, i finally saw dawn of the dead. much better than i expected. i don't like zombie movies.

All Hail Duke Oct 28th, 2011 12:11 PM

i love the critic to this day

which dawn of the dead?

watched american werewolf and return of the living dead last night to start a mini horror marathon

k0k0 Oct 28th, 2011 12:13 PM

I downloaded all the episodes of the critic and watched them through recently. They aren't as funny, but I still love them a lot.

10,000 Volt Ghost Oct 28th, 2011 12:20 PM

Have you seen any of the new Critic episodes? I heard they were funny but never bothered to watch them.

I might have pink eye and the halloween 3 guy just made it worse.

Aaarg Oct 28th, 2011 12:38 PM

w/e fuck y'all it wasn't as funny as when i was 11 then!!!!!!

also the original. i usually shy away from horror films made after, like 97

All Hail Duke Oct 28th, 2011 12:56 PM

watching that and the og TCM tonight

as for avoiding modern horror, wise move since it's all torture porn and shitty remakes

although House of the Devil was pretty good, but then again i have an odd fascination w/ Tom Noonan...

King Hadas Oct 29th, 2011 12:00 AM

Robocop 2. I don't understand why people always shit on this movie. I've avoided watching it because of it's reputation but that was a mistake, it's fantastic.

Leviathan. Another Peter Weller movie I watched recently. The first half where they're introducing the characters and the setting are pretty good but the second half with the monster is terrible.

Kitsa Oct 29th, 2011 08:47 PM

Rewatching Jacob's Ladder right now. Completely fucking forgot about the creepy subway people in the beginning. Gaaaah.

Kitsa Oct 29th, 2011 10:25 PM

Know what movie is way more depressing than I ever remembered?

Jacob's Ladder :(

Anything that vaguely resembles John Carpenters The Thing is awesome in my book! (Aside from the prequel...)

You watched it on Netflix didn't you?

Mad Melvin Oct 31st, 2011 05:01 AM

Watched a couple of horror movies.

Scream 4

OH LOOKIE HERE HOW WE MAKE FUN OF OURSELVES AND THE PREVIOUS MOVIES BUT WITH A FRESH NEW TWIST WHERE WE ARE BASHING MODERN HORROR MOVIES BUT IRONICALLY BECAUSE THIS MOVIE IS ALSO A MODERN HORROR MOVIE! AREN'T WE WITTY?!

So yeah, didn't like it. Seemed like a horror movie made for hipsters. And what the hell is wrong with Courtney Cox's face? Looks like an emotionless blob of shiny plastic.

John Carpenter's The Ward

Ghosts of Mars was a putrid piece of a turd and I thought Carpenter gave up directing altogether because of how bad it was. Suffice to say, I was very interested to see what made him come out of retirement.

A below average horror movie with a twist, apparently. Couple of nice scares, but you pretty much see every "BOO!" moment coming from miles away. Suprisingly, I didn't guess the twist ending so thats a plus. Worth a watch, but very forgettable. Shame.

kahljorn Oct 31st, 2011 06:57 AM

I like ghosts of mars :(

Mad Melvin Oct 31st, 2011 10:21 AM

That is why you don't have nice things.

All Hail Duke Oct 31st, 2011 11:31 PM

texas chainsaw massacre, ed wood and pee-wee's big adventure
(i don't need to rate them since you should already know how good they are)

THANK YOU. People shit on it because they never really understood that movies about a cyborg cop fighting crime in future Detroit are inherently kind of, you know, goofy and fun as hell. Fuck the third one, though >: ninja "robots" played by one actor, my ass

Fuck yeah, that movie was so goddamned boring in the second half. I had more fun watching that steaming pile Deepstar Six, for God's sake. Though I LOVED their ingenious plan of getting rid of the water breathing aquatic monster living-mutant-corpse killerbeast by putting it in a body bag and, you know, putting it in the water. AND IT WORKS. awesome

:p:fu
I disagree.

Pentegarn Nov 3rd, 2011 08:10 AM

I just rented 2 vids. Limitless and The Conspirator, and as a rare treat I enjoyed both

Limitless was a decent flick about a guy who samples this drug that opens up the human mind to 100% functionality. Everything you ever experienced is now accessable, none of this psychic or telekinesis bullcrap that people think would happen if you had 100% brain use. Just good old fashioned firing on all cylinders. He ends up with the bulk of all that is left of the drug. With his ability to comprehend, intake, and plan enhanced exponentially, he soon becomes a wizard of wall street. But soon others covet the drug and problems arise as his supply dwindles. I liked that the ending was not what I was expecting, but not in a dumb Shamalamadingdong way, in more of a clever way where the obvious ending was not where they went.

The Conspirator is a bit of Historical dramatization of the Mary Surratt trial. An interesting flick, with some decent performances. If you dig historical movies, give it a shot.

kahljorn Nov 3rd, 2011 08:16 AM

if he had 100% brain power why didnt he just make more of the drug

Pentegarn Nov 3rd, 2011 08:26 AM

In Bruges

I have always disliked Colin Farrell, so thats the main reason I hadn't seen this one. I was bored, so I decided to give it a chance, since i've heard some praise for it.

Holy shit. I just can't believe how awesome it was. It was funny, original and extremely well paced. If you enjoyed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, you'll propably enjoy this one too.

Aaarg Nov 3rd, 2011 04:16 PM

yeah, i was totally surprised by that movie.

Ex Leper Nov 4th, 2011 12:30 AM

Kevin Smith: 2 Fat for 40.

Kitsa Nov 4th, 2011 11:44 PM

I watched that not long ago. I've gotta say, the guy is amiable. I grew up with Kevin Smith movies and associate a lot of warm fuzzies with them. Every time I went to his store in Red Bank, Walt Flanagan was at the checkout.

Slate just did an article on him and has some good points, though.

Dimnos Nov 5th, 2011 04:43 AM

You grew up in the 90s?

Kitsa Nov 5th, 2011 09:54 PM

I was born in 77, so Clerks hit right around my junior year of high school.

Kitsa Nov 7th, 2011 12:08 AM

Red State. As I said previously, lots of warm fuzzies for Kevin Smith but what a fucking mess.

Pentegarn Nov 7th, 2011 07:26 AM

That's the one where he invited the Westboro Baptist Church to the premier of, gave them about 20 tickets, and about 10 minutes into it they all left because it was 'too dirty'. Smith said he wasn't upset that they left, he was upset that they left before they could see his WBC scene

Kitsa Nov 7th, 2011 08:17 AM

Yeah. Well, I mean I think I caught all of the major themes and most of the minor ones. ("Which is scarier, the religious nutjobs or the government", "People do crazy things for authority figures", "Won't someone please think of the children", etc)

Spoilers!

The special effects were great for the budget he had, but the shakycam. I hate the shakycam so much.

Aaarg Nov 7th, 2011 08:34 AM

MAKAI TENSHO: SAMURAI REINCARNATION was a major disappointment. i don't know what i was so excited about the trailer isn't particularly good. the movie took itself a bit too seriously for what it was. i like the idea (dead warriors reborn as devils and killing the shogunate), but it was pretty boring.

BLACK MAGIC is pretty great. almost anything that starts with the shaw brothers opening is going to be pretty great, so whatever.

Ex Leper Nov 7th, 2011 11:25 AM

Patrice O'Neal: "Elephant in the Room". One of the funniest comedians I've seen in a while. I hope he recovers from the stroke he had recently.

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes

I actually really enjoyed this one. On paper this seems like a totally pointless sequel (or prequel) and I was expecting some mindless CGI-action with bland characters. I'm glad I was wrong. I was amazed at how "human" the ape character was, considering that it was all cgi and with no dialogue. The scenes between John Lithgow and James Franco were also quite touching.

I dunno, I just really liked this one. I got the same warm fuzzy feeling I got when I first saw Jurassic Park when it came out. This is not a masterpiece by any means, but as far as blockbusters go, this is one of the more entertaining ones i've seen.

zeldasbiggestfan Nov 13th, 2011 03:10 PM

Donnie Darko, American Beauty, and In Bruges recently as well. American Beauty I think tops all of those if I had to pick all that I've seen within the month.

dextire Nov 14th, 2011 01:17 AM

War Bus 2. Cheesy 80s Italian movie where an "American" infiltrates Afghanistan in order to steal a school bus. No, really, this movie exists. :)

It was the best new movie i've seen in a while. Loved it.

Krythor Nov 18th, 2011 06:53 PM

I don't. Maybe it's just because I hate Jason Segel, but I hate that he's written it and got his mug in it. It just seems like a vanity project. "I can die knowing that I made a Muppets film." I WANT TO BE SICK EVERYWHERE.

Fathom Zero Nov 18th, 2011 06:58 PM

He just really likes the Muppets. He's a superfan.
