the flaming lips' new album.
has anybody heard it? what are your thoughts?
i bought it off amazon so i'm still waiting for it, and i'll form an opinion then. their last album, at war with the mystics, was so bad i quit listening to the band. listening to transmissions from the satellite heart again for the first time in a whiiiiile--this is great. |
fuck we have a similar taste in music.
Ya the new album is great, lots of distortion. At war with the mystics pissed me right off, transmissions is definitely my favorite album by them by far. |
well then sweet, that's a good indicator that i'll like this album!
|
give it a few listens to grow on you. it's not satellite heart but it's nothing to turn your nose up at.
|
yeah, cool. i've gone out of my way to give at war with the mystics a few listens and nothing has ever come of it.
today i got the birthday party's hee-haw, thus completing my [as far as i care--i have everything that i can buy off amazon, not ebay] birthday party discography. hee haw is better than i expected, which is cool. |
built to spill have a new album out too. it's good as well.
EDIT: the birthday party is awesome, just listened to a few tracks here now, right up my ally. |
I had no idea they came out with a new album. I'm going to have to check this out now.
|
Yeah, I like to buy things in groups on Amazon so whenever I buy something I check random bands I've enjoyed over the years to see if there's anything new or anything old I might want.
Never heard Built to Spill, maybe I'll have to check them out. And yeah, the Birthday Party is great. Some of my favorite songs from them: King Ink, Zoo-Music-Girl, Nick the Stripper, Deep in the Woods, Sonny's Burning, Swampland, Mutiny in Heaven, Junkyard. "Mutiny in Heaven" is the song that got me into them. Late in the band's life, it's pretty manic. One of the best songs I've heard about heroin addiction. "I jumped-- and fled this fuckin' heap on doctored wings My flailing pinions with splints and rags and crutches (damn things nearly hardly flapped!)" Rrrats in paradise! Rrrats in paradise (I'm bailin' out!) |
FLAMING LIPS
First impression... different. A few sounds struck me moreso than songs, really. However, I didn't get the urge to skip anything. Ok, nevermind, I skipped one song when it was half-way over, "Virgo Self-Esteem Broadcast." Not digging the animal sounds in the background. |
it's weird because i listened to it twice, at first resisted, then caved hard to taking out the slow songs they were never that good at making anyway and got myself a 40 minute version of the album that is all i'll listen to. so i love it but dont at the same time.
those drums are too perfect to go without. |
I don't know if I really like this album. I kind of like the song "Your Bats" but that's about it.
|
