I'll probably get reamed but im just being honest

I used to love the I-mockery website and still check back at least weekly
out of years and years of habit but since the new weekly music.game movie thing and the addition of doc mock the site seems to have gone down hill.it's mostly promotion about doc mock with a few extras thrown in now and then.

Tadao Feb 27th, 2010 04:21 PM

I hear you, I was thinking about that the other day, but I always consider that this is RoG's site. He and his partners in crime probably talked about the direction they wanted to go and went there.

The Leader Feb 27th, 2010 04:21 PM

I don't understand how that means the site has gone downhill.

Dr. Boogie Feb 27th, 2010 05:03 PM

I can't speak for Rog, but the reason I don't get as much done for the site is that I'm torn between writing new articles and looking for full-time employment. I know Max is in a similar situation, and with him all but disappearing from the site, that's slowed us down even more.

The volunteer weeklies are an effort on our part to try and involve people more while taking some of the workload off ourselves. Unfortunately, not everyone who wants to contribute something has the discipline to follow through with it.

Hangie Feb 27th, 2010 05:39 PM

I think the site is different and I don't really read the actually articles and such that much anymore, but it gives me more incentive to read the forums.

Zhukov Feb 27th, 2010 07:07 PM

Hangie, you are the reason this site is going downhill.

So I don't have to type this over again (and since Dr. Boogie already brought up some of the same things), I'll just copy-paste what I responded to somebody with in the blog just last month (originally posted here) and then follow-up with some additional comments:

---start post---

Nobody's gonna bash ya for expressing your opinion, and I really do appreciate the support for the site so I'll be happy to address what you had to say. I've always tried to keep myself busy with new projects as I think too many people stick with working on just one thing and eventually end up beating a dead horse. I'm all about variety, hence the inherently chaotic nature of this web site which I've always tried to keep wide open so myself and the other writers can literally cover anything we want without having to feel boxed in. Doc Mock has definitely been a huge part of my life in recent times, because I'm absolutely loving it and it's a total change of pace in which I get to interact directly with my audience as it happens. It's very exciting because I know there's absolutely nothing else like it out there on the web.

That said, I've been doing my best to continuously keep this site updated with fresh new content and maybe you just haven't noticed. Aside from the batch of four new Weeklies that we put up every week, there have been plenty of new things on the site in the past month:

Coverage of the He-Man Art Show:
http://www.i-mockery.com/minimocks/he-man-art-show-2010

Robodemons:
http://www.i-mockery.com/shorts/robodemons

Santa Fu - a brand new flash game:
http://www.i-mockery.com/minimocks/santa-fu

Tales From The Longbox #34:
http://www.i-mockery.com/comics/longbox34

Christmas Comes To Pacland:
http://www.i-mockery.com/minimocks/pacman-christmas

That's a LOT of all new content on top of new Doc Mock episodes each week. And before all of that, we had another two full months of nonstop updates during our Halloween season.

So with all that in mind, I'm not sure how you can really expect much more from us. I've always been a quality over quantity kind of person as it is, and anymore productivity and I'll be officially burning the candle at both ends.

---end post---

We update when we can and when we have something we really want to write about. There are plenty of sites that are more than happy to churn out bland new material every day with the same old, quick "top 5 (whatever)" lists that take under an hour to write. I've always tried to keep I-Mockery different by having a ridiculous amount of content that is always changing. I'm not trying to toot our proverbial horn here, but there's probably more variety on this site than there is on any other site out there. Articles, rants, reviews, comics, games, shows, blogs, travel adventures, etc, etc. There's really not much myself and the other writers aren't free to do on here and that's what it's all about.

Also, contrary to popular belief, we don't make a living doing this site. As Dr. Boogie already said, he's still looking for employment. This site is simply done out of a love for writing about anything we feel like at the time.

I'm currently working with Pox on our biggest flash game ever (the one we showed at Comic-Con last year) in hopes it will be ready this summer. I'm also trying to get some paying writing / development gigs outside of I-Mockery. So while the site may not be as busy as it used to be, since there are bills to be paid, it's still being updated each month with new content that we really want to write about. Not a lot of sites who've been around for 10+ years can make that claim. We're still doing this after all these years because it's something we genuinely want to do and hearing what you guys have to say about whatever we write has always kept us going. I know I speak on behalf of the other guys when I say that it's pretty awesome (and rare) to have a large audience like this, so we never take that for granted.

If you like the way we used to update all the time, that's great... we did too, so you can always go through the 10+ years of archived content for some additional amusement. The site is still going to be updated whenever we can and it's still going to be the same quality of work that it always was (just look at Dr. Boogie's latest rom hack review that went up this past week, for example).

I could add on additional writers to try and compete with all the other sites and lose what I-Mockery was really all about, or I could stick with the same great group of people who really made the site stand out from the rest of the pack. I choose to do the latter.

Maybe he misses the features where you guys hung out together and did zany things (like the Slurpee thievery gag, or visiting the yard sales). I admit I miss those too, but truth be told I imagine not living in the same place like you all did way back when tends to make those kinds of articles less frequent.

I'd personally love to see more coverage of the great art shows featuring he-man, video game characters, and just general nerd stuff you guys have in Cali. I don't know how frequently they have these types of shows but I always loved looking through the pictures of some great art. Sadly I have never seen anything like that in NY.

captain516 Feb 28th, 2010 02:00 AM

I don't really see too much mocking done here anymore. Those old mini websites that attacked anime, religion, the goth scene, etc. were great because they pissed off people. Now it's just more like reviews of obscure shit. Not that they're any less funny, it's just that it's a thing which a lot of websites already do.

stevetothepast Feb 28th, 2010 12:30 PM

Other websites should aspire to be half as good as this.

"I remember a time when I wanted to be great. I remember a time I thought I knew it all. I remember a time when thought I had it all. I remember a time when I ran my own webpage. I remember a time when I had a kick ass audience. Then... I remember the day I-Mockery ruined all my dreams. I had seen greatness and knew just how far I was..." :tear

Sorry i haven't gotten back to this thread sooner but winter here keeps taking out our electricity.
i never meant to say that there isn't new content on the site and NOBODY does Halloween better than i mockery,it's just that things like doc mock and the weekly bits dont really have the feel that the old mocks and pieces did.here in Morgantown we have 3 mst3k also rans avalable on tv over the weekend so it just doesn't interest me.but rog puts a lot of work into it and deserves kudos for it.and i guess i should just shut the hell up and enjoy the work that the unpaid geniuses provide for us all.

robo_rob Mar 2nd, 2010 02:31 PM

I know what you mean, I love reading the older articles. However, things happen and times change. The fact that they still update with good articles (not as often, sure, but when it does happen, it's a good read) is awesome. Some site owners let older projects go by the wayside when they either move on or get too busy with other things. Rog and the crew still churn out good content, and the weeklies are usually great. Hell, I'd volunteer to help if I wasn't already busy with one site (these things can take a lot of time), but I'm sure nobody wants to read about indecent Transformers toys (here anyway).

Mockery Mar 2nd, 2010 03:44 PM

The Weeklies aren't meant to be a replacement for our normal articles by any means. They're not supposed to be hilarious reads or anything... there may be funny points in them here 'n there, but nothing like you'd find in one of our regular articles. The actual reason I started up the Weeklies section is because I wanted a space where we could cover some of the things we like / dislike that we otherwise wouldn't get to write about here on I-Mockery. So definitely don't look at them as a replacement or anything like that, we're still doing our regular articles, just not as frequently because of other projects and things going on in our lives. That said, there's no reason why each writer on the site can't do at least one new article every month.

Something classic phasing out one of the things that made it what it is is always unpleasant, but I consider this a blessing since most of the internet revolves around 'trolling' now.

Zomboid Mar 2nd, 2010 06:19 PM

Honestly, I haven't really found the site funny in years; I think that's because I started reading it when I was like 14. I'll still read some of the articles, but that's usually because they make me feel nostalgic.

The Leader Mar 2nd, 2010 07:02 PM

Max's stuff always makes me laugh. This is all his fault. :(

Zomboid Mar 2nd, 2010 07:41 PM

Well, yeah, Max is funny. There are still articles that make me laugh a few times, but, I mean, I don't even really consider it a comedy site anymore.

Supafly345 Mar 2nd, 2010 08:43 PM

I miss Pjalne and Fatsatan, they were pretty funny. Fatsatan especially seemed to have a natural ability to be hilarious without trying, and his movie and music reviews were always the best. Pjalne was more deliberate, like it felt like he worked pretty hard to make his papers funny, and it showed.
