The 80's

I am doing a project in school.
Could you name one song and one movie from the 80's which is the most "80's" for you? :/

Johannas Nov 24th, 2003 10:22 AM

Easy.......The wedding singer would have to be the movie, and Eurythmics-Sweet Dreams would be the song.

This post should have been made in the MUSIC FORUM.

and the answer to your question is: "Take on Me" by Ah-Ha.

"Don't You Forget About Me" by Simple Minds would probably come in second.

Crimson Ghost Nov 24th, 2003 11:09 AM

I hate the 80's, but "Re-Animator" is a great movie and any song by Slayer is good.

Holy cow, that was the first thing that popped into my head. I guess it is the right answer.

Protoclown Nov 24th, 2003 01:32 PM

Re-Animator is EXTREMELY overrated.

And I'll say "The Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats and "The Breakfast Club".

I know, I bought that thing all excited and then was left wondering what all the hoopla was about. You and I were both just like "that's it???"

Unless there's a song called "The Breakfast Club" that I don't remember, I already mentioned "Don't You Forget About Me" by Simple Minds .

Miss Modular Nov 24th, 2003 01:36 PM

Any song by Huey Lewis and the News

"The Glamourous Life" Sheila E.

Mockery Nov 24th, 2003 01:38 PM

Goddamn Miss M, how the fuck could I forget to mention Huey? I must be having an off day. I fucking live for Huey. LIVE!

Bennett Nov 24th, 2003 01:44 PM

I would name something by Hall and Oats, but they are actually timeless.

I'll have to go with "Everybody wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears... well that one's kind of timeless as well. Regardless, it is the best song of the eighties... as well as one of the best songs EVER. It also features prominently in Real Genius.

That's what I was wondering.

Also, any of the following songs by Robert Palmer (RIP): "Addicted to Love", "Simply Irresistible", and "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On".

Anything off of Phil Collins' No Jacket Required album, as well as "In the Air Tonight" and "Easy Lover".

Mockery Nov 24th, 2003 01:48 PM

All definitely big tracks of the 80's... but seriously if you had to just pick ONE song that was like the biggest hit of the 80's, I think it has to be "Take On Me" by Ah-Ha.

Bennett Nov 24th, 2003 01:51 PM

"Easy Lover" is amazing.

Protoclown Nov 24th, 2003 02:02 PM

I'd agree that "Take on Me" is probably my favorite 80s song, and it IS the best music video EVER.

But I didn't want to just give the same answer Roger gave.

I said "The Breakfast Club" because he asked for ONE song and ONE movie.

Bennett Nov 24th, 2003 02:06 PM

I will give you "Take On me" just because "Everybody wants to rule the World" transcends the labeling of 80's song.

As far as movies go, I would have to say the Goonies or Better off Dead.

Spooky Nov 24th, 2003 02:19 PM

movie? The Breakfast Club or Labrynth

song? Hot for teacher by Van Halen :(

Crimson Ghost Nov 24th, 2003 03:30 PM

How about 'Dead Alive'?
With the RatMonkey

ohh, you mean GOOD movies.

Supafly345 Nov 24th, 2003 06:15 PM

Sheila still performs that song fabulously. Saw her when she was in the 2001 lineup of Ringo Starr's All Starr Band, and that was one of the songs they did....she's still amazing :)

Mad Melvin Dec 10th, 2003 05:30 PM

when I think of the 80´s the first thing that pops in my head is the song called "cars". Cant remember the bands name.
The most 80´s movie has got to be Police Academy.

Command Prompt Dec 10th, 2003 06:15 PM

Here in my car
I feel safest of all
I can lock all my doors
It's the only way to live
In cars

Here in my car
I can only receive
I can listen to you
It keeps me stable for days
In cars

Here in my car
The image breaks down
Will you visit me please
If I open my door
In cars

Here in my car
I know I've started to think
About leaving tonight
Although nothing seems right
In cars

I know I've started to think
I know I've started to think
