That exact thing happens when you damage your funny bone. When something hits it or damages it with pressure, numbness and a cold feeling occuring along that bone results. It directly effects the bones on the outside of your hand which they are connected to. You probably hurt it while asleep.
If the pain is constant over several days then I suggest seeing a doctor. It probably is carpal tunnel syndrome.
