Someone on the UCB board was asking me questions about this sketch so here is some background information that I also posted there:

Quote:
The idea of the sketch came because for some reason I was thinking of that "elvis meets nixon" movie HBO showed a few years ago, and I came up with the "Manson with Myself" joke first.

Originally it was going to be written as a documentary about the filmmaker's troubles with making films based on historical photos, so he just starts making up fake photos to base his films on.

It got written because we were doing a unit in my creative writing class on writing scenes, and we had to be in groups to write and perform the scene. I picked people that I knew would just do whatever I said. I mentioned this idea to them and they for some reason thought it was a talk-show scene. I realized that a talkshow scenario worked much better for performing in front of a class. I basically wrote the scene the night before it was due in about 30 minutes. If I were more clever than I actually am, I wouldn't have the conversation in each movie be EXACTLY the same; the original idea was every clip was going to be a similar conversation, where it's a dumb jokey scene where they allude to something that is funny to modern day audiences (like when mary says "It'll never catch on!" about tables and chairs in "Passion of the Christ"). The Basketball conversation was kind of just a placeholder untill I could think of something better. I didn't.

When I performed it, the rest of my group played all the people in the various movie clips, and I played both the host and the guest with sock puppets, because everybody else was too nervous to do anything else. The host was basically performed with my immitation of David Cross' immitation of James Lipton, but if I were to do it again he would be unimpressed and sarcastic (LIKE GARY SHANDLING). The sketch got huge laughs when I did it in class. One of the comments I actually got was "Thats like something you'd see on 'Upright Citizens Brigade'" :o

I wrote this a while back, and I posted it because I found it and laughed at it a lot and thought it was funny.

THE END.
