I left home 1989
The last house I lived in with my parents I lived in the basement (it was decorated by the previous owner) and it had a black light, green shag carpet and 60's style wallpaper. I had a waterbed and my own entrance, but I hated it so much that I rarely was home (slept at girlfriends house). :/
