All I can say is that if I got a bunch of acid, mushrooms, PCP, crystal meth, and pot, and rolled all of it into an 8-inch long joint and smoked it in 10 minutes, and then read the book/watched the TV series/listened to the radio play, I would get a slightly more accurate representation of the story than I did from the movie.
