i'm not sure. i think it seemed to bubble under the surface between the january that "boy in da corner" got US release and the august where "showtime" came out and kept it up through "a grand don't come for free" (though lots of people say skinner doesn't belong, but let's talk in press-terms here), and now it just sorta seems in limbo. it's died a bit, but it seems like the US is waiting for something. everyone "in the know" about music has at least heard of the guy, and most have an opinion, but it certainly hasn't hit it as large as they'd like to.
for a little while, people tried to say MIA was grime, but that was kinda stupid.
soooo, yeah. US is still waiting for something catchier than "stand up tall"
