Dude, I just realized a few weeks ago that the spinsters Clothos, Atropos, and Lachysis (or whatever their names were) were the same thing as the apportioners. It all comes together now.
(I'm just able to remember their names off-hand because they were obliquely-named characters in the game LOOM)
