I can tell you what not to start out with... SCREWJACK. My first HST book was Screwjack and I had no clue what the fuck was going on. Read on the Campaign trail or in Las Vegas first. The campaign trail is great though, 'cause the preface explains the entire book. You don't need much knowledge on the author for that one.
