Well, the Jack Nicholson version had the acting talent and the suspense, with much of the creepiness, and in my opinion Stanley Kubrick did the best/creepiest job with what he had. But I understand that Stephen King was irritated that the topiary animals didn't come to life, and wasn't happy until the remake. Which I didn't like.
