So, of course Mozart's Requiem is one of the great staples of Western music, and I listen to it often without any reason besides its beauty. I was thinking a while ago of posting a list of overly-personal songs, because it always adds an emotional element to songs that can't be captured in more catholic lyrics. Like, "A Song for Sleeping", in which Scott Weiland addresses his then newborn son by name. But most of them are more Requiem-like in nature, such as Pennywise's "Bro Hymn" (about Jason's suicide) and Everclear's "Heroin Girl", in which he mentions "I heard a policeman say 'just another overdose'", which really happened about his brother. A large portion of Poe's Haunted are about her father's death, and Soulfly's eponymous album is mostly about the brutal murder of the singer's step-son.

Even though songs like The Offspring's "Gone Away" and A Perfect Circle's "Passive" are quite powerful, they lack the feel of real tributes, even if they're grounded in real experiences.

So, what are some good recommendations for requiems?
