I like it, it sort of takes the character back to it's inspiration - Victor Hugo's The Man Who Laughs and Conrad Veidt's portrayal of the character in the silent film version.

In the novel, King James II murders a rival and hands over the rival's two-year old son to a group of 'Comprachicos' - persons who mutilate children for the purpose of creating freaks for monetary exhibition. The group cuts off the boys lips and slice his cheeks creating a giant and permanent grin.
