I don't think that this proves America is more liberal, per se.

As I think the article eludes to, it's really the demise of the left that helped morph the Right in America. I think the confines "of liberal" and "conservative" are too narrow, don't allow for a good argument. I still appreciate the argument Michael Lind uses in his book Up from Conservatism, that liberalism is soo dominant because it is a clearer ideology than conservatism (Neo-liberals, or "Order liberals" have changed this a bit, but I digress). Even the article says it, famous liberals like Moynihan became more "conservative." Conservatism tends to be more reactionary, whereas liberalism seems to fit throughout the years....

I have a lot to say on this topic, since it's my focus of interest, but I just can't articulate it very well.
