Lichtenstein mimiced the look of comics to emphasise a disasotiaton between subject and representation. It was in is opinion the purest way to represent a subject without going into abstraction. the simplification to a comic form allows for a greater atention to a purist's design.
Comic style was also a means of ilustrating modernistic (especialy on gender) values. in that Comics were used to represent common social thought.
