this is one of my favorite nes games, as far as pattern recognition it's not really that difficult a game. i play through it maybe twice a year or so to hear the music again.
the story is that a laser cannon on pluto that was designed to protect the solar system from hostile aliens has gone haywire and is systematically destroying all the other planets. and earth is next :O and you pilot the m308-gunner the ultimate robot or whatever etc
it's really fantastic i recommend it often
