I vividly remember playing Thief 2 as a child, and coming to a hole in the floor leading to a dark room full of moss arrows and loot. I dropped down, thinking it was empty, and found myself trapped with no way out in a 10x10 foot room with a
fucking giant spider. I shut the computer off instantly.
Spoilered for people who haven't had the shit scared out of them by Thief yet
Spoilers! |
Then there's the Hammer Haunts, the apparitions that shoot skulls at you and knock off half your health bar in one shot, the mantis men, the humans turned into half-apes by Pagan magic, and the Thief Gold exclusive ghost who's immortal, has a flaming head, and accelerates to retarded-fast speeds when you hit him, running off somewhere else in the level to pop up later when you're not expecting him.
The Mechanist servants in Thief 2 are also creepy as hell, even if they can't hurt you. The cyborg ones wander around having arguements with themselves and speaking in a creepy, echoey whisper, and there's this tiny Cherub robot in "Life of the Party" who pops up behind you after you steal a plot-important piece of loot, and then runs off somewhere else into the level. The first time I saw it I chased after it and threw every goddamn explosive I had at it trying to kill it, even though it was completely harmless; it was just that much of a spooky bastard. |
What the fuck, Looking Glass.
