Old Mar 3rd, 2003, 04:32 PM        NALDO! YOUR BIG CHANCE TO DISAGREE WITH W!!
Form the SandDiego Union Tribune:

As thousands of sailors and Marines are sent abroad for a possible war with Iraq, the Bush administration is proposing to cut education funding for many children of military families.

The president's plan would eliminate funding for military students who live in apartments or homes off base, a proposal that has incensed educators who say the timing couldn't be worse.
Bush's proposal to cut the payments for students who live off base would save the government about $125 million, said Amy Call, spokeswoman for the White House Office of Management and Budget.

"Since the children are living on private property, the local school district is receiving property tax from the private home the child is living in," she said. "That's a source of revenue to finance their education."

So, lets see... I want the soldiers to come home without risking their lives, W wants their kids to have less money for education and give up at least one of their parents for a nice chunk of time, possibly forever. I forget, who's the one who has no respect for our armed forces?

Sure. I'm using this to prod him, but I honestly think this sucks. Those who live off base may indeed pay taxes, but I think that's beside the point. We ask our armed forces to give up all control of their lives. In return the least we can do is take care of their families. My God Children's Dad will be over there for a minimum of six months. That's going to make it damn hard on their Mom. I think as a country we owe more help to the families left at home to cope, not less.

The arguement makes sense. However, it does suck.

It would be nice if the education funding was a benefit applied to all military families, not just those on base.

With the times the way they are and with everyone so happy to spend money, I'll have to disagree with George W on this.

Now if they want to raise taxes to do this, forget it.

It would be nice if dems could produce a money tree to fund everything they want.

However, some of us must live in the real world.

Produce a link.

Ronnie, you have never spoken truer words.

Maybe you can come visit us in the real world sometime.

Thank god we finally got a Republican in office. Everyone knows that a Republican administration always equals better times for military folks right?

Look buddy, I don't care if you HAVE been in the military, if you don't have a "career," and most importantly, if you don't ALWAYS agree with George W. Bush, your opinion means shit here.

I suppose you're right. Just to clarify, the feces-like quality of my opinions is not limited to this board. Just ask my wife!

Anyway, it's ironic because a lot of military folks assume that a Republican president automaticalaly means their quality of life will be substantially better. It's funny that in spite of the personal opinions of a lot of military folks towards Clinton, for example, it just so happens that military QOL substantially improved during his administration.

It's no change of heart. I have always respected others' opinions. Even those who do not want war. I don't want it either, and their may be a chance to avoid it still, but sometimes things have to happen.

And yes, I like Bush and Reagan and Eisenhower, and even JFK. I also like the fact that Bush has so much faith in God and offers that in his leadership.

But my question is this:

Did Jesus have a job with good benefits? If not, well, I'm not so sure about this dude.

Kevin, I can see that the career thing is really bothering you.

Relax. Work hard, do the best you can and you'll do just fine in life.

Provide you with a link to what? I sourced a reputable paper and this was a news piece not op-ed. There are quotes. What link are you looking for, the bduget itself? I don't hold you to anything like that kind of standard.
