So, do people still listen to the Smiths at all? I do, a bit, but it doesn't seem like that many people are all that familiar with them, despite thier huge influence on tons of bands. Anyway, The Queen is Dead is my favourite (yes, obvious choice), and the Boy With the Thorn in his side is my favourite track.

I would doubt that this is a Smiths type crowd, but I think they're great. "girlfriend in a coma" is my favorite track.

I bought louder than bombs, but I've found that I like the music alot more than the vocals. Morrissey just irritates me for one reason or another. Preference thing.

I never understood the appeal of either Morrissey or "The Smiths" and I'd like to hear exactly what bands you think that they had an influence on. I mean ones that don't suck and have admitted to having been influence on them. In other words, I'm not talking about bands which YOU think have a similiar sound and that may have been influenced by them.

Lots of bands list them as influence; Radiohead for one, Oasis, Pulp, lots of the British groups from the mid-ninties. They influenced pretty much every pop-rock band that came out after them, specifically the guitar sound.

I agree with Pub and, for the time being - God pray it be short - Tenenbaum. I haven't picked an absolute favourite but "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" was my song of the millennium.

My 4-year-old niece knows the full lyrics/tune to "Girlfriend In A Coma" and we're working on Morrissey's "My Love Life." She'll be the coolest girl in pre-school EVER!

You might like this band called The Dears. If you want to listen to a song you have to give an email adress and a postal code but that's it and listen.

Yeah, The Dears are pretty good, but they aren't the Smiths man.

I just can't stand the whiny, depressing, self-absorbed lyrics and I find them musically uninteresting. Well, The Cure, they are whiny, depressing and self-absorbed but they have the musical ability to back it up. As for Oasis, I think that the Beatles, if anybody, was their biggest influence.
