I know someone that left a tampon in for too long and almost died of toxicity. A worse story is when they first became popular on the market and my dad was working the emergency room as an x-ray tech, and some lady didn't know you had to remove the old ones before inserting new ones. He said that the procedure to remove them filled the room with the worst smell possible.
