I'm currently reading a science fiction/war book. It's plot is it's 1645, Civil war between King Charles I and Parliment, and The Holekhor are infiltrating England with forces and technology they shouldn't have for another 300 years.

It mixes quite well.

I'm actually reading Ender's Game right now, and I have to admit I have a hard time not comparing everything to his statements on homosexuality.

I read Ender's Game years and years ago, and I clearly remember that if it involved male to male affections to any particular level, it was not at all in a homophobic way.

Moreover, it's a great book.

Ender's Game is good, but the sequals that take place after Battle School are alot better. Childhoods End is also a good science fiction book.

these are the best Sci-fi books I've read this year..

Stone - Adamn Roberts

Only Forward - Michael Marshall Smith (sci-fi/detective, sounds like an odd coupling for the described genre of a book but it makes for a fantastic read)

Stranger in a Strange Land & Time Enough for Love - Robert A. Heinlein

Obviously, you have no knowledge of Asimov's works.

Many of his works blended mystery with the science fiction genre. Read his Robot novels.

H.P. Lovecraft, but only if you're into horror sci-fi.

I also reccommend Frederick Pohl, and Madaline L'Engle, although her books are more intended for children and teens and are more on the fantasy side.
