Stange Changes in Movies and TV

Ok, here you can post all the inside information about movies and television shows where they made mysterious modifications. For example, in Toy Story, when Woody wakes up in the toy chest, Shark says, "Look, I'm a cowboy! Howdy, howdy, howdy!" but for the video release, he says, "Look, I'm Woody! Howdy, howdy, howdy!"

Also, one time, I was watching the episode of South Park where Death comes to town, Stan's grandpa wants to die, and parents are offended by a canadian duo named Terrence and Phillip, and where Cartman normally says, "Kyle's mom is a dirty Jew!", they replaced 'dirty' with a bleep. Can anyone explain that?

billy madsion: once i rented it and the kickball scene wasent in it, once or twice it was on tv i didnt see that scene after a while i forgot about that scene then about a month ago on USA there were showing the movie and there as that scene so i know i didnt make it up as i was watchng in the theather

The Kickball scene wasn't in theaters. On TV they will often add scenes that were initially cut from the film to pad it out, because they need to fill time for all the other things they had to cut to make it suitable for broadcast. Plus it gives it the extra edge over simply going out and renting the movie, even though you get to hear all the cuss words that they bleeped out on TV, you DON'T get that extra little Kickball scene. Also, sometimes they'll shoot two different versions of a scene, just for the TV release or the airline release or in case they need to use it in favor of getting a PG rating. The scene where he says "You gotta get your ass out there and find that fuckin' dog!" is now "You gotta get your ass out there and find that stupid dog!" From what I could tell it's a completely new scene, they must have shot it unsure if they'd lose the PG-13 rating for saying "fuck." A lot of sexploitation movies will shoot cleaner versions of their dirty scenes for basic cable broadcast. HBO's "Dream On" would shoot clean versions of their sex scenes just for Comedy Central when they got to air it.

The changing of "dirty" jew on South Park is one I remember, and I disagree with it. This just changes what the joke is... The original joke is that Cartman's mom comes up to Cartman and says to him "Turn off this show, I heard from Kyle's mother that it makes you a potty mouth" and he says "That's stupid, Kyle's mom is a dirty jew" to which the mom replies "oh! okay hon!" the joke is that Cartman is a bigotted asshole and that's much worse that swearing. But bleeping out dirty is supposed to imply that Cartman said "fucking jew," which turns the joke into a stupid joke about how stupid Cartman's mom is. Not as funny.

Another example of change is that one episode of Simpsons that was a spoof of Behind the Music. In the original aired episode it is mentioned that the Simpson family is from southern Missouri, but in the syndicated episodes they are apparantly from northern Kentucky.

They changed it because they are trying to hide where the Simpsons actually live, which is pretty much no where in the U.S..
On the one episode, Homer worked on the oil mines in West Springfield and almost dies, but Barney saves him with the helicopter. Lisa points out a map of Springfield and it shows Springfield next to West Springfield. She then says, "West Springfield is three times the size of Texas!" Therefore, the don't really have a state where they live.

The Simpsons live in Anytown, USA. Like the towns of Twin Peaks, Plainsville, and wherever the hell The Wonder Years lived. Many shows are like that. Keep in mind it's just a show.

The TV version they showed had a completely different beginning.

Curiously, they seemed to have taken out a few of the things for Star Wars: Special Edition. I don't remember seeing ANY of the new "Special" stuff except for the new Jabba the Hutt scene.

I think we can wrap this all up with one statement: fuck the art, as long as it fits into two hours and nobody with mental problems is offended by the slightest fucking thing nobody cares if the movie makes sense or not.
